I travel to Oahu frequently, and have stayed in many hotels in the Waikiki/Ala Moana areas and this is BY FAR my most favorite hotel yet! The location, staff, daily activities, free daily bottles of water-are all wonderful-and I haven't even mentioned the room yet! Clean comfortable room with a FRIDGE, MICROWAVE and COFFEE MAKER!!! Fabulous lanai with great views of the harbor and city. Location is fantastic-short walk to Ala Moana mall, civic center, Waikiki, zoo-you name it, you can pretty much walk there. Quiet location too! Great restaurant options close by and the restaurant at the hotel was wonderful! I really enjoyed the POG frosty! Will definitely be staying here again!

I stayed at the Modern for one night in early December on my way back for the mainland. I was a bit anxious after reading some of the negative reviews in here. But very pleased to state that none of these fears came true for me! My stay was exceptional from start to finish! This is a beautiful hotel, mid 60s architectural style hotel- not too big or small. Superb location of the main strip Kalakaua Avenue, minutes to the Hilton Lagoon and beach, high end designer shops and 10 minutes across the canal to Ala Moana mall with its fabulous food courts! Check in was smooth, front desk staff were lovely and pleasant! Lobby decor and business area had beautiful furnishings and decor. Our room was HUGE! We had stayed earlier at the Alohilani, which is a 5 start and a few hundred dollars more expensive however this room was about twice as big! Room was comfortable, had lovely decor and great partial view of harbour and sunset pool below. I don’t know what people are complaining about room being “tired” and “dated”. There were a few scratches on the tables but the couches were fantastic, so comfortable. Bed was great! Nice linens and Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries, very nice! Everything in the room is white, so you know housekeeping is doing a great job keeping everything clean! My only complaint about this hotel is that the check out time was 10am. This was really painful. I think they have limited staff (couldn’t really tell honestly ) I asked if I could have a late check out and they told me I could call at 6am and ask for extended check out, but that would defeat the purpose cause I wanted to sleep in. Because of this early checkout and our evening flight, we spent the entire day on one of the daybeds in the pool. These can be rented for $120 a day however as it was a rainy day and not busy, we could spend that amount on food and beverages, which was amazing! The pool staff were Fantastic! Especially our server Kylie (petite Asian female who has family in Vancouver) - she was so nice, friendly, accomadating and was remarkably efficient in servicing the entire pool area by herself for most of the day! She had excellent recommendations for food and drinks. We had the pokey tacos, Galbi bao buns, and healthy salad. Everythjng was delicious! The Modern Honolulu is in a great location, if you'd like to be closer to Ala Moana mall, and still have access to a sandy beach, and Kalakaua Avenue / the Strip nearby. Staff is pleasant with smiles on their faces! Also, convenient communication via text, and especially for housekeeping, and checkout is really appreciated.

Everything was fine with our stay. It is just an average older hotel badly in need of updating.. The furniture in the room was not very practical. It is a reclining sofa low to the floor and not able to sti 2 people very well. The platform the bed was on was an ankle bumper. We would have loved a jacuzzi.

I use to love this hotel. I’ve been coming here since around the time they first opened. I would typically book through Hotel Tonight App and on occasion directly through the hotel itself. Throughout the years, especially more recently, I’ve noticed a lack in customer service and quality of this hotel. During my last stay, when I checked into my room, they gave me a room in front of the elevator on a lower level. At first I thought, “oh this is convenient.” Then as I walked around the room, I noticed the closet rod for hanging clothes was to my waist. I thought, “this is strange. It doesn’t usually look like this.” Upon entering the restroom, I noticed that it was completely handicap accessible. The shower, the toilet, and even the sink was different. The view was of a large tree and the parking garage across the street. Because it was on a lower level floor, it was in a spot where the traffic from outside was very loud because it was closer to the street. I later went to reception to ask if they could change our room because the room given to us was for a handicap person and I don’t think it was appropriate to give to my family. The receptionist told me that the reason we were given this room was because we booked through Hotel Tonight and so we are not considered priority. I said to them, “Just to be clear, you assigned a handicapped room to our family because we booked through a discounted site and are not considered priority? Should’t you be saving it for someone who is actually handicapped?” I was so disappointed. After begging for a different room, they finally gave us a different one. Also, they do not offer room service. After being in a beach hotel after a week, the room is dirty. You have to call for some clean sheets and change out all the bedding yourself. And when you remove all the sheets and see all the yellow stains on the bed from previous guests is the icing on the cake. Also, during this particular stay, there was group of housekeepers protesting outside our window at 5:30 or 6am. They were clearly trying to make a point. Just be careful when booking your room through here because this hotel doesn’t treat all of it’s guests the same.…

Just a lot of little things went wrong. TV didn't work, shower flooded the bathroom after every use, etc. The majority was fine and outdoor area beautiful, but the lack of housekeeping and amount we had to figure out on our own was just not worth the price of the place. We ended up transferring to THE COCONUT WAIKIKI HOTEL and absolutely loved it

This was not a bad hotel at all. Microwave and mini fridge in room was convenient. Don't pay $26 a day for parking at this hotel. There is parking across the street for $1 an hour. Staff was quick to bring anything we needed. Friendly staff. We had a great ocean view. Shower was great. Bed was quite low and a little hard. Housekeepers were still demonstrating at 7am in the morning, but it was only once while we were there. No housekeeping the entire week we were there.

This experience was based on a "tour" that was offered to us from an affiliate hotel. But after this experience, I would never recommend anyone to stay here due to how we were treated. We were offered a "tour" of this hotel to redeem a $100 voucher and a one week stay at select Hilton locations at different travel destinations, so we thought why not? This tour was presented to us as a sales presentation on time shares that did not require any commitment to purchase, the only catch was to sit through a sales presentation of it. We went in with an open mind, and honestly was almost convinced to purchase a time share. However, after some research about it while our sales rep Fernando stepped out, we did not think it met our travel goals for the future, so we declined the offer. He tried to sell us other options, but we were still not interested so we continued to decline. When it became pretty obvious we really were not going to buy anything, our sales rep said a very insensitive comment. We are Asian, and he blatantly said "I understand your culture, luxury is not for everyone." I understand that his job was to sell us stuff, but it was both racist and classist to make an assumption about our heritage and affluence. At the end, we met Carmen who came to do a survey about the presentation. We were honest about feeling disrespected about the insensitive comment, and she said she was shocked that comment was made and will address it and that Hilton values diversity. She was quite nice and understanding in the beginning, but she then proceeded to sell us another vacation package which we were not interested in so we declined again. She did not say anything insensitive or disrespectful, but we did notice a change in her attitude and demeanor. If you can't take no for an answer, don't market this "tour" for everyone. We will definitely not stay at this hotel when we come back to HNL.…

I was excited to stay here. I loved it when it was under previous ownership as the Edition Hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel now looks and feels like it was a beautiful prime property 10 years ago and has not been maintained since. One of the front desk girls had a cold attitude, opposite of the Aloha spirit. It's a good location, but I would spend the extra $100 and stay at the Hawaii Prince, next door at the Ilikai or a more Hawaiian focused property like the Outrigger. The food options are limited, the overall energy is sad and desperate. I will not be staying here again.
