Awful, Only redeeming quality was the person who checked me in and the person who checked me in. The walls are paper thin and the rooms smaller than any room I have stayed in (including Europe). Could hear everything next door with fans and tv on. everything they said. It was new Year's eve-I felt like I was in a war zone (literally). I was actually terrified. Room smelled, uncomfortable. So bummed i used all my points to stay here. One reason I am not a fan of IHG. Their point redemption is ok. I just needed a clean place to stay for one night until I moved to a nicer Marriott. Didn't sleep. Not a great start to a much needed vacation. Won't be back. Ever.

Hotel's Favourite
This was the first time staying at the wonderful Holiday Inn Express - Waikiki. I chose this hotel because of its perfect location and I like tall hotels! Being a Diamond Ambassador member, I was upgraded at check in by Omar, who was wonderful! It helped after a very long flight to be able to check in early around 12:50 pm or so. Loved the Dole pineapple drinks and candies too! We were on the 36th floor in a partial ocean view room! Loved it! Quiet, very clean and perfect for the three days! Housekeeping was wonderful! The elevators were very quick to work with. No problems there. But I have to say one of highlights was the breakfast buffet and staff! First rate all the way. The food, drinks and dining areas were perfect. The staff were the best! Thank you! During our stay, I chatted with Frieda, the Security lady who was gracious and kind. Unfortunately, had to fly back home. Check out with Beatrice was quick and professional! Thank you so very much to Omar, Breakfast Staff, Frieda and Beatrice for a flawless stay. We will return soon! I'm not sure why people complain about this hotel, but I had a great experience from check-in to check-out. I arrived earlier than expected so I was able to go to my room at 2:00 p.m. The front desk employees were extremely nice and helpful. Room was small but plenty of room for me and it was very clean. I was glad there was a fridge in the room. It was very handy because there is an ABC store right across the street where you can grab food and beverage. Yes, you will often see homeless people across the street, but they are all over Waikiki and can't be avoided. This hotel is walking distance from many restaurants and shops. The large hot tub was great. They have a pretty decent breakfast each morning starting at 6:30 a.m. Some guests are very greedy and take much more than they need, but you always see that when you travel. The price I paid was very good because I found a deal on Groupon.

I had the opportunity to travel for work to Hawai’i and I could bring my wife and 4 yr old daughter with, which excited my wife greatly. The hotel was a disappointment from even before we stepped in there. I wouldn’t take kids to this hotel, although if I was traveling alone, I would’ve stayed there for the week. I’m an IHG Diamond member and I stay at 120 hotels a year for the last 20 years. The Good: the room was clean and cool. With the exception of the comments below from the check-in guy, the staff was great. The breakfast area was run smoothly and they fed a lot of people. There was friendly staff helping out. The Bad: where do I start? We pull up to the hotel and there is a man peeing on a bush in front of the hotel, not a good look. I park to check-in and I asked about the man peeing in front of the hotel and he tells me that this hotel is in an urban area, so that happens. I’ve lived in or visited urban areas my whole life and have seen homeless people before, and I’ve never seen them peeing in public. I’ve seen them pick and eat food out of trash cans. I’ve seen a drug addict have a seizure on a street corner in Los Angeles. I let the subject drop. I complete the check-in process and get back in the car to drive it around the corner to the parking garage. My wife tells me that while I was checking in, a bald woman was walking around the car and was looking inside it through the windows. Is this safe? My 4-yr-old daughter announced she had to pee really bad and couldn’t hold it in any more, so they went in the lobby restroom, where my wife reported that it smelled like a zoo elephant house. She managed to use a clean toilet, another one was unflushed with feces in the bowl. You have to do a secret handshake with the elevators because some go up to certain floors, while others go elsewhere, so it takes twice as long to get anywhere because you might have to wait twice. We get to the room and it’s very small. We had three packed suitcases and I had a hard time maneuvering them around the room and no where to really open them all since there were three of us. We had two double beds, no desk, a small chair, and a tiny bathroom. The toilet takes up 3/4 of the space in front of the tub, so we couldn’t wash our daughter since there was little room, plus you have to maneuver around this bathtub when taking a shower with no grab bars. If you are a wide person, your legs will hit the tub or the toilet paper holder when you sit down on the toilet. The pictures they have on their website are 100% accurate, but they are misleading. The room pictures could be of our room, but it looks more spacious than what it is. Same with the bathroom. The outside pool/play area is small, looks bigger in the pictures. After seeing the room, I went back to the lobby and asked if larger rooms were available. They were kind and said to check in the morning since it was later and they wouldn’t know how many no-shows there would be. The next morning, after I verified that I could checkout the next day without penalty, I found alternate accommodations for us. The tourist area is two blocks away and that looked nice enough. All high-end stores like Hermes and Tiffany. Didn’t see many homeless there. If you are single or there with a second person, this hotel could be right for you, but for a family, look elsewhere.

The hotel was very nice and didn't run into much staff seeing that I was only there for a few days. I would recommend this hotel for a quick trip not for more than 3 nights because the bed was very uncomfortable. I woke up at least twice throughout the night with my hips hurting, and so did my mom. Other than that, the offer of the Continental breakfast was great. I didn't see too many other hotels offering breakfast. That is one of the main reasons why I chose the hotel. The only other thing I didn't like was the parking situation. If you rent a car and try to park it at the hotel, it's about $42.00 per night, and it's first come, first serve so we just used lyft to get to and from the hotel and airport because there's no shuttle service either.

Long waits for the lifts. Great view from bedroom on floor 36. Not far to walk to the beach and bus into town. They want us to pay for a charge for the amenities but we already paid as part of the package. It show on our e-mail as "resort fee paid as part of package". Yes Americans not understanding English i.e. resort fee = Amenities charge.
