Best hotel in Honolulu for families! The hotel is beautiful, centrally located, comfortable plus you can find everything you need just walking distance! We booked a two bedroom ocean view and fell in love with the view! The rooms where very clean plus the hotel had excellent guest services. Great amenities and walking distance to the beach…made great memories with the kids! Would definitely stay here again!

We had a 1 bedroom suite. It was great for our family of 4 with small children. I bought food from ABC and cooked breakfast daily, which saved money and saved a long trek to find breakfast seating. The washer and dryer was great- I never thought I would be doing laundry on vacation, but it helped to wash all of our beach clothing before going home. We had a resort/city view with a slice of the ocean. It was pretty! The rooms are very quiet. We had multiple families with small children on either side of us, and I only heard them if they were in the hall.

The only negatives were:
1) the ridiculous shower setup. The shower door only covers 1/2 of the shower, which allows water to spray all over the floor. Our bathroom floor was wet our entire stay, because it was difficult to keep it mopped up. I’m not talking a little water.... it was A LOT!
2) they need to get different coffee makers. The one in the room needs to be completely emptied before the next brew, but you can’t see if it’s empty or full. I ended up going to the ABC store each day for coffee.
3) in general, the Hilton property is not keeping up with Covid freedoms. The open air restaurants and bars by the beach are not open. Why not? You’ll likely have to go offsite to dine. Only one Starbucks is open, and you’ll get coffee if you want to wait over an hour. Open the water slides- all of them!

So depending on your priorities, this place can be a great option. We stayed as a family of 4 (two teenagers) so we needed 3 beds and wanted a full kitchen. We didn't mind not being right on the beach or having an ocean view. Check in was smooth and the reception and lobby staff were friendly. The parking (very expensive) is in a nearby building but you can pull up to the lobby to load and unload. The driveway is very easy to miss but once you know where it is, it makes the fact that the parking isn't right there basically a non-issue.
The room was large - two doubles in the bedroom with a dresser and closet, a double pullout in the main room, and a good size kitchen. The bathroom was very large with two sinks, a separate toilet area with a door and a Japanese toilet :) There was a lovely balcony with a view of the sunset, and our room had a washer and dryer in the room. For us this was huge - hiking and beach make for many dirty clothes. As this is one of the newer buildings on the property, it was clean and pretty fresh looking. We really liked that there was a dedicated pool and hot tub for the building on the 3rd floor. It was nothing fancy but a lot quieter than the shared, beautiful pools on the property.
Overall, for our purposes, this place was great and we would recommend it and stay again.

We stayed at The Grand Islander at the Hilton Village in Oahu this year from 2/29/2020 thru 3/7/2020 and had a fabulous time. The room was clean and beautiful. We like the location of the resort and really liked that it had everything from restaurants, shopping and the aloha atmosphere . It was clean and the staff was very friendly. We very much enjoyed our stay. However, our last night at the resort went very wrong. We decided to try Bali’s Steak house for dinner as we thought it would be a great end to our stay in Oahu. The dinner was very expensive for just the 2 of us (not the problem)But it was terrible. We only ate part of the dinner but we didn’t want to be rude so we just told the waiter we were finished as he cleared our plates. Soon after leaving the restaurant, instead of enjoying the sunset and fireworks on the beach, I became very ill ending up in the hotel room throwing up for the rest of the evening. I called the main desk first thing in the morning about my experience with their onsite restaurant. I had hoped, they would do the right thing and maybe refund us back for part of my dinner. Unfortunately, that was not their policy. I was transferred and transferred and was told by Hilton that I was required to file an insurance claim for the incident. I thought this was extreme and unnecessary but complied per their request. Again, after multiple calls with Hilton’s team, I had to answer questions of what exactly I ate and drank at Bali’s, how long after eating did I throw up, how many times I threw up, what And where I ate and drank throughout that day, what and where I ate and drank the previous day, if was I able to do anything else after throwing up, If I left my hotel room, etc. etc. I was told Hilton would do an investigation of how many others ate at Bali’s that night, if they ate what we ate, and if anyone else became ill and reported it. I would hear back from Hilton with the results. I did receive a letter about a month later from Hilton with their decision that the incident was closed as they did not find sufficient evidence of any wrongdoing. It was treated like a car accident. The way they handled this one little complaint completely turned me against my entire stay. While I loved the resort, I will never go back. Something so small turned into a way bigger issue than needed. A simple Partial refund of what I ate would have been fair and acceptable. Instead, I had to endure multiple conversations, file an Insurance claim with Hilton and made to feel like a liar. If this is the way they handle something so simple, I can’t imagine how Hilton would handle a BIGGER issue. An injury or worse. We are frequent visitors of Hawaii. Going in upwards of 6 times per year. I would assume all Hilton’s have the same policy so I will never stay at a Hilton again!

We regularly visit Maui and this time we added Oahu to the list. Hilton reservations recommended the Islander. The rooms were as promised awesome. I paid a preliminary for a view. You would hav head to lean off the balcony and fall many floors to get any type of real view. A joke.

The problem here was the service. Having been to other vacation club properties, this one was by far the worst. Not one staff member was helpful or friendly. I had called long distance to talk to the concierge before the visit and their recording promised a call back before one day had expired. After two calls over six days I just booked the activities myself. Then while at the property we tried to get tips on visiting Pearl Harbor some info on other activities and each time the staff was completely useless. I travel all over for business and have never been exposed to the unfriendliness and incompetence across an entire concierge department. The whole property did not seem to have a helpful person there.

Happy hour at the tapas bar was very good. But you need a good drink after having the lack of service there.

Overall a very big and expensive disappointment.

Big thumbs down.

We have been HGV owners for many years and have had the opportunity to visit several HGV properties, all of which have exceeded expectations. This is our first time in Hawaii and I’m sad to say that our stay at The Grand Islander was very disappointing.

Upon check-in, we were not greeted as owners. We were simply given a map of the property and sent on our way. We were not told about the owners update meeting at all.

The rooms are nice and as expected. There is a sign in the room that says check in at concierge for coupon book and free gift—- which was 2 single use packets of coffee in addition to the coffee that was already in the room. There are 3 concierge stations that we would walk by every day multiple times; the attendees didn’t seem interested in helping, never made eye contact or acknowledged us in any way.

There are several pools on the property. Towels are limited to 1 per customer. Today, we asked for an additional towel to dry off some chairs after a drenching rain. We were given a towel out of the dirty bin (yes, used by other patrons) instead of offering a clean towel. REALLY, Hilton?!? That’s just not right!!

I think my biggest rub here is that I pre-paid for Vacation package preview with Hilton Grand Vacations, and when I called in to booking the Grand Waikikian, I was talked out of it by their rep on the phone who assured me the Grand Islander was the best option. Could not have been more wrong.
Our problems with this hotel started quickly...just finding how to get in was a task. I could not figure out how to get to lobby, and had to call the front desk for help. Even he (Moana) was unable to give me proper directions over the phone and was putting me down the side road of the hotel, which was not the way I was supposed to go. For anyone reading this review, the correct way to get to the hotel lobby is right off of Kalia road. There is a bus lane along the side of the road, and this very easy to miss driveway that you have to cross pedestrian traffic, that leads to an upramp, that takes you up to the lobby. No joke, it took us well over 30 minutes to figure this out, and the desk agent had to come down stairs and point it out to us. It was super confusing.
My 2nd major issue was with the parking. The parking situation here is just terrible. They charge you $50 per night, to park in a deck that is a good ways walk from the Grand Islander, and that deck was constantly mobbed while we were there. We were afraid to go out too late in the evening, because we didn't want to get stuck not having a parking spot. I honestly can't believe they charge you to park the car there, it's like paying to put yourself in jail.
I just wasn't at all impressed by our accommodations or amenities. Our refrigerator in our room had a distinct fish odor as soon as you opened it. The toilet in the bathroom was very short and had far too many gizmos attached to it for me to even try to figure out how to use it. The room was tight, and just in general unimpressive. No USB charging ports anywhere in the room.
The pool situation here wasn't great either. They were all fairly small for the amount of people staying on property. Of course the pool we liked most was right next to the Grand Waikikian (eye roll). Even then, multiple slides were closed, I guess due to COVID...whatever that means.
Overall, I found very little value in what you pay for at the Grand Islander. I said it to my wife multiple times while on the trip, that had I known what I know now, I would have taken that money, and stayed a few extra nights at Aulani instead of staying here. 100% not worth it at all.

I was a guest of a friend who had a timeshare at the Grand Islander. While the 2 bedroom unit was very nice with a lovely ocean view, housekeeping was mediocre at best. Front desk informed us only one day of housekeeping was included but we could call for additional towels etc. But if we wanted additional days of housekeeping it would cost us an additional $147 per day. Between the pool and beach not including the sand, 1 cleaning day per week is not enough. Covid is over & the resort needs to hire back the staff to keep the rooms fresh. The Tapa pool was also poorly maintained. There was an oil film & cloudiness in the water for 2days before it was cleaned so we went to the beach instead. Lastly, they only provided one pool towel & if you didn’t provide a green towel card you did not receive one. For a Hilton resort this is definitely not what we expected. Shame on you!!!

We loved our stay at the Grand Islander. It had all the amenities we needed, and even though housekeeping did not clean the room due to COVID rules, we were able to order clean towels, laundry soap and coffee at no cost through the interactive TV. Housekeeping delivered the supplies in a timely manner. I especially loved the pool on the third floor of our building that was restricted to people in our building. We were close to restaurants and shops. Parking was a little pricey but parking is pricey everywhere in Honolulu. The bell station stored our luggage upon checkout, including our refrigerated items, until our room in the tower we booked for the weekend was ready.

Customer service is seriously lacking at this Hilton Grand Vacation property. The desk clerk who checked us in could not understand that we were going to have a car and need parking. She also did not bother to point out where the elevators were located at. Which if you had not been to this location before, you would not realize there were back and around the corner from the desk. We wandered with our luggage through the lobby towards what looked like the elevators only to have to turn around and walk all the way back past the desk....still no help from any employee with where the elevators were.
We get a call in our room about an hour later from the front desk demanding that we come back down with our credit card since the desk clerk forgot to run it. We were on our way out to meet family for dinner and did not have time to stand in line. WE got another call in our room the next morning demanding our card. We went down and there was another long line. I did not want to waste my vacation time standing in line. The following morning there wasn't anyone in line and only one family at the desk. A lady came over to ask if we were checking in, I said no (since I only had to give my credit card). She said oh so your are checking out and she took the couple behind us to the elite counter to check it. I was told absolutely no checking in early (this was 10:30am). Two, all I had to do was give my credit card.

They will not do a head count. My family waited in the louge near the elevators, while I checked in around the corner. They did ask for me to write down the names of who was staying with me. I did not include my baby on the list. We had a great stay.
