Opened in 1968, the Ambassador Hotel has 300 guest rooms situated within 19 floors. The building's location within Waikiki is good; but as some have commented, the hotel was in need of a remodel. Per the Ambassador's own website, the hotel is undergoing a "transformation". (ambassadorwaikiki*com) I spoke to someone who said their cousin was a building inspector. The structure was stripped down to the concrete. All new water, electrical, fire and safety systems are being installed--in addition to the things guests can easily see above the surface (elevators, windows, sliders, bathroom fixtures, etc.). When finished, the building will meet all current building codes. It will be interesting to see what the look and feel of the resort will be like when finished.

The Ambassador was a great place for our family of 5 to stay comfortably. It is definitely not fancy, but the location was wonderful and the balcony view was fabulous. We were out exploring the island all day so we just needed a clean place to stay at night, and this fit the bill perfectly.

To start, I would stay at the Ambassador again! Understand that this is a hotel that is not a resort or high end hotel, it is priced as such. PROS: Very friendly and helpful staff. The staff had a positive attitude and were always happy to help. There is free coffee and water refill station in the lobby. The lobby was clean. The rooms are large, the 18th floor (the floor we stayed on) has a terrific view of the city, east side mountain range, and the ocean on the other side. Comfortable beds and cold A/C. Also a nice balcony with a great view. Walking distance to everywhere in Waikiki. The kitchen is a big help if you want to cook in as my wife and I did occasionally. There is a Walmart close by. The hotel is one of the cheapest in Waikiki. My wife and I knew this going in. We decided we would rather stay at a less expensive place and use our money instead for shark diving, jet skiing, parasailing, tours, eating out, convertible rental, and other fun stuff. Overall the rooms had great A/C, a nice large bathroom, nice kitchen, comfy beds, a large closet with mirrored doors, 4-drawer dresser, TV, parking available for $40 a day/night, and a great view. Not too bad! We enjoyed our stay & we were so busy doing excursions that we were hardly at our hotel. CONS: My wife and I booked through Traveluro for around $70-$80 per night. Once we got to the Ambassador we were charged a $30 per night service fee…not cool since we stayed 10 nights. Even with the service fee, it’s still an inexpensive place to stay. Another complaint is that the rooms are dated, basic, and run down. Some of the appliances are rusty. The walls could use some paint. To me and my wife, this was not a big deal as we knew this going in. Don’t have high expectations. You get what you pay for… but it is a good hotel for the inexpensive price you pay. To sum it up, my wife and I would stay at the Ambassador again. The friendly staff made a big difference for us. The rooms aren’t exactly awesome, but the friendly staff and cheap price sealed it for us. No bugs, no bad odors, nothing nasty. Floor 18 was very peaceful & our AC unit softened out all of the noise.

We booked one week stay in Feb, 2022. The prices seems reasonable, but then we found out $30 per day resort fee ending up nothing different than regular hotels and they also charge over $40 per day for parking fee (you will get notification after booking done via email). After we arrived, we were told that they only do room cleaning every 5 days due to Covid-19. However, we were charged the same rate as they clean every day. After my complain, they sent over the staff to clean it after 3 nights. They only clean twice during our 7-night stay. Then the refrigerator was not working and ice-cream was melting. Then the bathroom was clotted during the shower time, I have to dig into drain and get hairs out. They sent staff to fix it. But if they do regular check up right, it should not happen. We paid around $200 per day and the value is NOT worth at all.

Made a booking in January. One month ago they cancelked it, claiming there will be renovations. The booking for my original stay is still open on all major sites, only they sell it 5-10 times more expensive. No help was provided in finding an alternative, no further communication from their side. No civilized hotels would ever behave this way. This hotel is a complete scam, do not even book here unless you want to experience the adrenaline rush of finding a new hotel option, and the joy of ending up going to another hotel and pay twice the price you booked you room in this hotel.

Hotel was nothing special. It's very old and is very dated. Needs major upgrade. 2 star for sure. Our room was large, had a balcony, kitchen, bathroom with shower, closet in the bathroom with a safe. Bed was super soft. Paint peeling, drywall showing, curtains dirty. Air conditioner is right beside your head on the wall. Has a laundry room, pool outside surrounded by concrete, no trees. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I would not stay again.

If you are looking for luxury, there are several hotels in Honolulu that will accommodate you - for 2-10x the cost of the Ambassador. Do your research and read the reviews, look at the pics - this is not a luxury resort and the price reflects that. Note that if you book thru a 3rd party, you may need to pay a daily $30 resort fee at the hotel. If you book directly with the hotel, you will see that fee included in your reservation. This fee is common practice in Hawaii. This front desk staff is outstanding! Noah is lovely. The cleaning staff was great! When checking in Noah mentioned that our room would be cleaned every 5 days, which is fine by us, we can make our own bed and hang dry our towels (less water waste). Our room was exactly what the pictures from previous guests had posted. Dated, albeit clean. We booked the Ambassador for three reasons : balcony with ocean view, kitchen and the value. The kitchen had everything we needed except a wine opener and a can opener. It had a bowling pot, a skillet, utensils, spatula, large knife, tongs, plates, bowls and coffee mugs. We normally travel with plastic wine glasses and they came in handy. Brewed coffee is available downstairs but we had a small coffee maker with us. The bathroom is a good size but there is zero counter. Hanging toiletry bags worked great. The shower was hot every day. The bed was comfortable, we didn't need the AC, but we did turn it on and it was loud - good way to drown out sound if you are a sensitive sleeper. There is a table and chairs in the room that we would move out to the balcony to enjoy coffee in the morning and dinner at night. The beach is located a short, picturesque walk through Fort Derussy Park - we fell in love with the chickens, seeing them daily made us giggle. At the front desk you can get beach towels. The pool is on the smaller side, but we only stopped in to look at it. A 15 minute walk from the hotel is Walmart, it carries American foods, beverages, processed snacks and some food and frozen items, but no fresh meat or seafood. We discovered Don Quijote the next day, a huge Asian store nearby with amazing fresh meat, seafood, prepared items and so much more. Their prices were lower than Walmart, but imagine you would not be able to find many American favorites there. After shopping, we ubered to the hotel ($8) with our loot. Closeby is a Subway sandwich shop and the ABC stores seem to be at every other corner. We ate in a bit more than we ate out. This was a trip to relax at the beach, so each morning we would pack up our beach chairs (ask the front desk if they have any that were left behind by previous guests), beach canopy for sun shelter (it was too windy to use a beach umbrella), a small soft side cooler with beverages and snacks and our beach towels. We were among many people that were enjoying adult beverages at the beach, but I did not see anyone that drank in excess. There is a Dairy Queen on the beach which was fun for a cool treat, like soft serve ice cream cones. We walked ALOT. One day we logged over 25k steps. Downtown is a short 10 minute walk away and there is fabulous energy, including amazing talent at ShoreFyre - we spent two nights listening to live music there. We tried going to Dukes for a drink one night and the wait time was 2.5 hours - for a drink at the bar?! Service everywhere on Oahu was terrific! One day we rented a jeep, took the top off and headed to Waimea Bay on North Shore, stopped in at Giovonni's shrimp truck for an incredible late lunch then took the coast home, stopping at Lanikai Beach. Epic Day! If I was staying in Waikiki again, we would definitely stay at The Ambassador, but next time we will likely stay in Lanikai or North Shore. My advice to every traveler is to do your research, TA is a great tool and you are less likely to encounter any unexpected, unwanted surprises. I think a good amount of the low star reviews here are due to folks booking due to the great rates then coming here thinking it's a five star resort?

Stayed for 2 nights and can confirm that this facility is, most likely, the most terrible hotel in Waikiki. Run down and dirty I am not quiet sure even renovations would make this hotel better. Worst part are hidden fees. Although room is advertised at a relatively low rate, taxes and an exorbitant “resort fee” double the rate. Parking is $40 per night! And if that is not enough, get used to NOT having your room cleaned while you are there. If you run out toilet paper you may pick it up at the front desk and walk through the lobby with your “amenities”. I am sorry but this place is a dump and not worth over $200 per night.

The hotel is old, rundown and definitely in need of renovations. The room/bedding was not what was described nor paid for. What you see in the pictures is not the reality. We booked two rooms for 8 nights, and after checking in, complained about the standard of the room and moved rooms, sadly the second room was no better than the first. The paint was peeling, plaster was peeling off the walls, handles were coming off the doors and cupboards, there was a build up of grime and rust in the kitchen, mould in the bathroom, holes in the curtains, marks and rust in the lounge area, powerpoint's and TV antenna coming out of the wall, and stained bedding to name a few issues. Further more, there were no extra pillows or blankets for the bedding, no dishwashing supplies, phone didn't work and the internet was atrocious. The hotel do not service the rooms unless you have been there for 5 days, which means there are no fresh towels, sheets or toilet rolls during that time; needless to say, 2 toilet rolls do not last a family 8 nights. Of the two rooms we booked, one room was cleaned on day 6, the other room was not cleaned at all, the entire stay. What's more, the hallways are full of bins, which have been left out by the occupants wanting them emptied. While the Coffee Bean and tTea Leaf shop at the bottom is closed, downstairs there is a coffee machine, and while the coffee is good, the machines are not. The machines encounter so many issues that most times they dont work. The coffee machine didn't appear to be cleaned, supplies were not maintained and every time I wanted a coffee I had to restock the supplies, wash and refill the water myself. On a positive, the staff are friendly and helpful, the location is good, close to Ala Moana and Kalakaua Ave, both highly recommended for shopping. The hotel has a bus stop right out the front, and an ABC store across the road.

The Hotel is very old and could use some paint but it is very clean and the rooms are large. Its very secure as you cant get in lift unless your staying there and has free filtered water in wall plus free coffee. The website needs updating though as the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf shop has closed and they don't have free bikes anymore which was disappointing. There are bikes and scooters for hire for $5 per 30 min though. The staff were amazing but please note, cash is not accepted at hotel which is annoying. The location is great. Aircon was noisy but I still managed to sleep really well which I never do and shower pressure was not good but bearable. Overall was not too bad
