Gorgeous hotel and grounds, plumeria scent throughout the hotel. We stayed in the original building, there are not balconies or patios but gorgeous rooms. Smallish pool, but really nice pool area. We rented beach chairs and umbrellas which were really nice. Perfect hotel for special occasions. We will definitely be back to this wonderful property!

This is a really great location, and a relatively small hotel. The service was IMPECCABLE as was our entire experience. It’s a very historic building and plenty of beach. “With a pink hotel, a boutique, and a swinging hotspot!”

It was our second time stay at that property and we still loved it! The property and location are great! It is just small details that need improvement - 1) Breakfast - Continental breakfast (complimentary for marriott platinum) is complete joke - it looks like a kids menu plate, unless you don't care about breakfast. So we just had to pay additionally to order eggs cooked. 2) Lounge chairs - property has a tiny pool with limited number of lounge chairs. But who cares about pool when the property is on the beach - unfortunately you have to pay for lounge chairs on the beach - what a shame for a such property! Otherwise our stay was very pleasant, our first room didn't have a working AC, but second room didn't have any issues after switching rooms.

We are in the tower that was added in the 50s or 60s. The room is shockingly small. The furniture, bedding, carpeting, etc are old and dingy. Not even remotely close to what I expected for the prices they charge. I have no idea how this can be labeled a luxury hotel. I could be in a Hampton inn in Muskogee. The grounds are gorgeous but we’re paying top dollar for a full luxury experience, which should include a beautiful and comfortable room.

Following a cruise from Australia to Hawaii, I stayed at the Royal Hawaiian before flying home several days later. I'd often wondered about the Royal Hawaiian, given its history, and I need wonder no more. The hotel is absolutely spectacular. The feeling of grandeur and opulence is astounding, what you'd imagine a royal palace to be like; and the staff here are all dedicated to the singular task of ensuring that you feel comfortable and special every moment of your stay. I stayed in the Mailani Tower and the views from the balcony are unbelievable, exactly what Waikiki Beach is all about. Lunch and dinner at the Mai Tai Bar is very casual, which strangely enough complements the sophistication of the hotel rather than competing with it. The only thing I'd like to see is for the Mailani Lounge to re-open after Covid again for nightly happy-hour drinks. The Royal Hawaiian will be our choice of accommodation on every future visit to Honolulu, and I would highly recommend a stay in the Mailani Tower to anyone looking for a 5 star Waikiki experience.

I've wanted to stay at the Royal Hawaiian for quite some time. There is no dispute, the common areas of this place are amazing. The rooms, however, not so much. The furniture was old, sagging and outdated. Check out the picture. You can't really see how bad this sofa is because of the 1970's stripe pattern but it's bad! Everyone here wants a tip and they trickle in so each person gets one. The luggage person who received the bags, the person who brings them to your room, the housekeeper who brings you towels that you would assume would be in your room upon check in, the guy who changed the flickering light bulb, the guy who brought you the microwave you requested, etc. I spent $70 in tips before I got my bags unpacked. The housekeeper was very sweet, but would not take no for an answer. We have a 5 hour time difference, trying to sleep in is not an option. They knock, I yell from my bed can you come back later? Another knock. Can you come back later. I thought maybe they can't hear me. I get up, go to the door and say can you come back later. She asks can I clean now? So the next day my son is at the door, thinking he can't hear me I yell, just a minute. He yells back you don't have to scream. I said, so you can hear me? He said yes. I know the walls are super thin. I can hear everything from my neighbors room. We stayed a week. We're out of towels, toilet paper, toiletries, etc. It seems they only clean the rooms in the morning. If you miss it, your on your own. The amenities... So they have this joint venture with the Sheridan next door for this incredible water park. Please don't base your decision to stay here on the water park. It is extremely small. The one slide they have looks huge and exciting in their photos. It is not. You can't slide down it, you have to push yourself down it. Other stuff to do includes a luau for the modest price of $250 per person. This is by far the most expensive luau you'll ever have. They gate you off from the rest of the hotel and tell you some cheesy history about the island. The fire dancer was cool! There is no ceremonial pig in a pit, or live music. The narrator sits in a chair near the stage as they promenade various people in costumes across the stage. It's very lame. So, you are on the beach!!! There is music, nice weather and the beach to enjoy. Everything is very expensive. The food is not good anywhere and the portions are small!!! So, probably the most authentic Hawaiian food we found was at the ABC store. LOL. Would I stay here again? Never. It is a bunch of hype. Hope this review helps.

Perhaps the grandest and certainly the most venerable hotel in Hawaii and easily my favorite. The history of this hotel and of Hawaii and of Waikiki is fascinating. Part of the beauty of the Royal Hawaiian is its place on Waikiki Beach, but, more importantly, the garden in its Courtyard, the excellent service, the Mai Tai Bar on the beach and on and on! E komo mai! Hele on! STAY HERE!

The historic hotel is beautiful, with amazing public spaces where you can sit and soak up the history. Checking in was easy, with plenty of helpful and attentive staff, the front desk was amazing with Nigel being stand out as going out of his way to help us. We stayed in the waterfront tower, having read the reviews we booked the room we wanted, despite being titanium elite we knew half the hotel would be so upgrades just don’t happen. The room 1404 is nice enough, a little tired, although we need meet a guy who was painting the rooms. Ours had a musty or damp smell as we we first walked in as the AC was turned off. However, that cleared in a couple of hours and was good for the rest of the stay. Yes you’re paying a lot, but it’s for the location and view, you are feet away from the beach waking up to the sound of the waves is worth every cent. Room to room noise can an issue, our first neighbours were super quiet and our second set not so much, but the building is what it is, it can’t easily be fixed. The room key on a wrist band is an excellent idea, and I highly recommend it great for the beach. Elevators in our tower were a little hit and miss, one day we were down to one, while frustrating if you were trying to check out, it’s not a big deal, just wait longer. Breakfast was excellent, we had continental for free but upgraded to the other options most days. Service was friendly and very professional, you’ll need to watch the tips here. We felt it’s not really fair on the staff. Each day we needed to remember the full amount our breakfast would have been to work out a fair tip based on that total. Location couldn’t get much better, not being fancy eaters we enjoyed that PF Chang’s, Yard House, the Tap-house, and the cheesecake factory is only a short walk away. The sky bar just over the road was also worth a visit with amazing sunset views and the food there was great too. The other nice thing is the Moana surf rider, and the Sheraton are all owned by the same group so you can charge anything back to your room from any of their bars and restaurants. Pool space is limited and the staff do their best to prevent rouge towels occupying sun loungers. Still a number of people though 6am was when they could put a towel down never to return. The hotel have dealt with this and staff put a down card which gives the unattended towel an hour to leave or be reunited with its owner who should be occupying the sun lounger. After an hour the staff clear the lounger and that gives others a chance. Overall, definitely worth staying here.
