Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach stands out for its modern and upscale ambiance, with guests frequently commending the spacious rooms and the professional, friendly staff. While the prime location is a highlight for easy access to local attractions, some guests have called out less-than-expected ocean views and parking challenges. Although the hotel's cleanliness receives high marks, opinions are mixed regarding value due to steep parking and resort fees and a pool area that doesn't quite measure up to other nearby properties.

I stayed one night for business meeting. Location is perfect and also parking structure is attached so it was so convenient as I had a car. Room with tub was great to relax after meetings. Staff are always kind and accommodating.

One of the disappointing factors of our stay was after a long haul flight we had to wait in the lobby for 5 hours as the room we had booked was not available, this was disappointing as although we were told we could wait in the lobby one of the reception staff made it clear they didn't want us sitting there and kept offering us a smaller room, so we ended up storing our bags and walking around town. This is one thing that needs to be addressed by all major hotels as guests arriving after a long flight there needs to be some leniency in allowing them to a room to freshen up. The other factor was that although the hotel advertises it has a pool you can not swim as it is only ankle deep, if we had known this at the time of booking we would had gone elsewhere. There was also certain things that we liked about the hotel, one was location as it was close to the beach, restaurants, bars and transport, the rooms were also a good size but the fridge could be larger, the bathroom was a good size but lighting poor, toilet area could be enclosed, there is no laundry and directions to one were incorrect, but there is one close by as we found, the in house restaurant meals were good as well as the service, although the hotel offered bar service it only opened 3 days after our arrival and then only stayed open for about 4 days of our stay. Overall our stay was good and most of the staff were friendly and helpful but due to Covid 19 pandemic services became very thin in Waikiki about 6 days before departure and it was hard to get healthy food.

We stayed five nights at this hotel in an ocean view suite. Ocean view is not exactly what you would expect as the hotel is several blocks from the water and the “view” is just a sliver of blue over tons of other buildings.

Location: other than not being oceanfront, the location is pretty perfect. Centrally located in Waikiki with access to tons of shops and eateries practically right outside your door. There is a Starbucks and Jamba Juice attached, and we made use of the Starbucks every day. The tea shop up the block near Ross is awesome. Having a Ross so close was a godsend as literally everything you might have forgotten to pack is right there, and at very reasonable cost. Ross will even validate your parking for the attached garage (not Hyatt’s) for 2 free hours with ANY purchase. Tip: if you don’t want to pay $45 per night for Hyatt parking, the garage attached to Ross charges $15 for 10 hours. If you are out all day and only use overnight parking, this is a huge $ saver.

Room: our room was fresh, spacious and beautiful. The ocean view suites are the smallest suites, and I wish we had booked the Mountain View one which I believe is about 200sf bigger. The ocean view wasn’t worth it as it’s barely a sliver of ocean. Only complaint about the room was the tub, which had tons of black mold in the overflow slot, and made it virtually unusable. Some bleach would fix this. Bed, lines, towels, furniture etc were wonderful. Reusable water bottles a great touch. Room was filled with sunshine all day.

Food: we only tried breakfast buffet which was adequate, nothing special and cost $30 with tax/tip. My daughter only one who partook. I was fine with Starbucks.

Service: very nice, cheerful staff.

Why four, not five stars? I did notice some irate people at checkout a few times, and it always appeared to be over one thing: resort fee. This hotel is NOT a resort (not on beach, no real pool, no spa, no grounds, no room service, etc) and has no business charging a resort fee. We didn’t use one single aspect of it, and it sucks to have to pay for something you don’t use. If the hotel wants to charge for those “amenities“ listed under resort fee, it should be optional to guests to partake or not. It left a bad impression on us.

We stayed at the Hyatt Centric Waikiki for 8 nights in October 2021. The hotel was very clean and modern. The rooms are simple with few decorations (some walls are quite blank and empty looking), but very comfortable. The shower is interesting, as it has a tub inside of it as well - it's spacious though compared to many other hotels. No breakfast is offered, but it was nice that the Musubi Cafe is right across the street. The location is good; it lies between the two main streets of Waikiki, so you do get some noise but not excessively. Waikiki beach is just a short 3-4min walk away, and the hotel provides you with "free" beach gear (included in resort fee). We didn't end up going to the pool, as it is more of a splash/lounge pool than a swimming pool, but hey, we came for the beaches, not a swimming pool. The parking lot is narrow, but we made it through the trip without scraping our rental car. Resort ($33/day) and parking ($42/day) fees do add up quickly and make the stay much more expensive than advertised/base price, however, this is kind of the norm for the area.

Overall, I feel that the Hyatt Centric does elevate itself above most 3-star hotels. We would be happy to stay here again!

On the plus side: great location (if you want the Waikiki experience), beds were comfortable, hotel was relatively quiet.
The negatives: pool is literally 1 foot deep, not built for swimming or even a plunge on a hot day. Hotel restaurant closed (COVID restrictions). No door on toilet (though thankfully door to bathroom). Glass window from shower into sleeping area (we could lower a shade). Motion sensor light in bathroom shines directly onto bed when activated. The street entrance is on the ground level, while reception is on 8, which was a bit confusing on check-in.
At this price point, I would recommend for singles or young couples (at the stage of relationship where they can see each other use the bathroom) who want an urban vacation experience, but not for families.

Stayed here for 3 nights on a recent trip after staying at another resort for 3 nights, so I had a good comparison for this hotel versus one along the beach. I also paid half the price here compared to the other hotel, so it was a great deal.

The room: We got upgraded to a mountain view suite which was very spacious. However, there are no balconies in any of the rooms. So if you'd like a room where you can lounge outside on your balcony then this is not the hotel for you. Our friends also booked an ocean view suite, but as the hotel is situated a block or two away from the beach, the view of the ocean is blocked by other buildings. They had a very nice bathtub in their shower, while we had a shower only. They also had a bidet, while we did not. In comparison, our previous hotel had a great view of the beach and a balcony to lounge on, but the room was tiny.

The location: This hotel is very centrally located to all the great food spots, and there is a Starbucks Reserve right downstairs. Most of the places we wanted to eat were within a 7 minute walk. We didn't go to the beach from here as we did that at our first hotel, but it would probably be a 5 minute walk.

The amenities: The pool is very shallow, it doesn't seem very swimmable. There are lounge chairs inside the pool as well. I believe the resort fee also covers 1 day of cabana rental, but we never utilized it. The hotel provides beach gear like boogie boards and umbrellas, but some days when I woke up late I noticed there was no more beach gear. You may want to wake up early to ensure you get the beach gear you want. The free beach gear is a great plus, as at our other hotel we had to pay to rent the same things.

The service: The front desk was very nice and we were able to make requests via text. However we had a misstep with the housekeeping. When we checked in we initially decided we did not need housekeeping (they ask you this due to the COVID situation I believe), but they said we can request housekeeping when we needed it. The first night we had a spill on our bed, and so the next morning I requested to get our bedsheets changed. But they said the request needed to come in the previous night, and so I wasn't able to get it that day, but would I like to get housekeeping for the next day? To which I said yes. But housekeeping did not end up coming the next day either. They said they would look into why this happened and I could get housekeeping for the next day, but it was already my last night. So I never got housekeeping for my whole stay which was disappointing and added some frustration to our trip. I would suggest to get housekeeping from the beginning if they ask.

Overall, the hotel was a great value, but I think it is better suited to those who want to stay somewhere with a good location for food and shopping and won't hang around the hotel that much. I feel this hotel is not the best if you're looking to lounge around on a balcony or at a nice big pool by the ocean (which is what we mostly did at the first hotel), as this hotel doesn't have that.

The best review that I can give is to say that I’ll return with my family for another vacation. The location is legit in the center of central Waikiki. You can walk to EVERYTHING - food, shopping, the beach, rental cars for your island road trip, etc. Hotel staff was super attentive and friendly. Made us feel like ohana, especially Rachel and Malia. Our room was HUGE - 2 king beds and a pull out sofa. Housekeeping (shout out to Vanessa) did a great job keeping up with us - got all the sand out of the shower and off the bathroom floor every day, which I’m sure was not easy. Thank you for an awesome place to stay during our vacay!!

Stayed here as a globalist for 4 nights and it was fine. The location is right in the middle of Waikiki surrounded by high end shopping on one side, and as is the case in Honolulu, graffiti covered shuttered buildings on the other. The price was excellent (paid about $160 a night out the door as a globalist). Staff were all nice, and the breakfast was nothing extensive, but solid quality with a few rotating items like pancakes and french toast.

We were upgraded to exactly the required room per the Hyatt terms, nothing more nothing less. Room was a nice size, with a few of the city (which you can honestly do without). Shower was a good size, and the products (shampoo, soap etc) were all fine. No special note, treat, or any recognition as a globalist in the room, which a lot of hotels do, and nothing really explained regarding benefits at check in. Breakfast is an obnoxious 0600 to 1000, so get up early if you want to eat.

The pool is kind of small and more of a very shallow place to sit in a chair in the water and relax, and the hot tub is a decent size, although it could have been a little hotter. Nice little deck for the pool area though and a nice place to relax.

The staff were watching the manager's dog, Nasa, while we were there and she was present in the lobby behind the desk, so extra points for that. Hooray Nasa! Lots of places nearby to eat, like the excellent udon shop that is super popular and the japanese food hall across the street.

Overall, if I were in Waikiki again, I would stay here again unless it was an insane price. Personally I would not pay more than maybe $250 max out the door and that would be pushing it. Really no complaints about the hotel at all. Truth is, I just don't care for Honolulu so my odds of returning are slim, but it has nothing to do with the hotel.

The entire staff is outstanding. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable. While most people are vacationing here this hotel provides the perfect peaceful setting for those that are in the city for business. Outstanding food and convenient location to other restaurants in the area. I love that they no longer give bottled water but give you a reusable water bottle that you can fill at various filtered water stations located throughout the hotel. You can also reserve a beta fish to keep you comoany duribg your stay.

This is a wonderful hyatt with a 5-7 minute easy walk to the beach. It is right off the main strip of waikiki so you don't have all the street noise. The hotel offers lots of amenities including chairs, towels and umbrellas for the beach. There are water stations available to fill up water bottles and a small frig in the room. We LOVED our stay!!!!
