Glenferns is about 4km outside Franz Josef so you need a car. I had a car port out side which meant that you could load/unload in the dry. Cars may be a little wider than when the car port was designed for so it was a tight squeeze to park my SUV. The unit was large and roomy. I stayed in summer but it was cold though I could have put the radiator on. Kitchen ok but there is a notice that if you cooked fish or curry then you could incur a cleaning fee if there was a lingering smell. The reason for the 4 rather than 5 was the quality of the breakfast. It has to be pre-ordered by 6pm the night before and it was only cereal and bread. There are some really nice Cafe options in Franz Josef. The supermarket is tiny.

Great welcome by everyone and very helpful with any enquiry. The villa is very comfortable, clean, well equipped and has a spacious lounge area that opens out onto external decking with fabulous views of the mountains. Each villa has its own designated parking outside the door.

Arrived at Glenfern villas late, in the dark having been tailgate for 12k on a narrow mountain pass by a lorry. We'd already been driving for nearly 4 hours and there was no safe place I could find to move over and let him pass. Arrived stressed and exhausted. It felt like this holiday of a lifetime was going to be a disaster ( having lost a day, and our passports at Heathrow and having to pay an extra £2000 to rearrange flights). However, found out that none of the FranzJosef restaurants would deliver food that late in the evening, and certainly not deliver wine which resulted in a collapse in tears. BUT, Lauren stepped in and not only recommended a brilliant restaurant but drove us there herself after her working day AND collected us from the Alice May and took us back to the villa. Lauren, we can't thank you enough and we cannot rate Glenfern Villas highly enough. Thank you so much.

Clean and practical and well located for visiting the Franz Josef glacier.
Rooms are basic but have everything you need for a 1/2 night stay. Staff were really friendly and very helpful with information about the area.
A couple of miles outside the centre of town so you’ll need a car. Recommend a visit to Snakebite for lunch/drinks and splash out on a helihike over a scenic flight, one of the best experiences we’ve had!

We stayed here for two nights on our way to Wanaka. Very friendly gentleman checked us in. Rooms were well appointed but we found it difficult to cool down the room as the a/c wasn’t putting out much air and the windows had no screens so keeping the windows open brought in bugs (in the evening). We needed the Wi-Fi in the evening to do work but it was often not working or it worked very sporadically. So beware if you need to get work done! I would have been a more comfortable stay if the temperature was adjustable and if Wi-Fi worked consistently. Villas are located in a quiet area just outside of Franz Josef.

I really want to give this place five stars but I can’t. We stayed in a 2-bedroom villa, it was clean had a lovely view and was spacious for myself, my husband and mother-in-law. BEWARE their pricing is very unclear. Apparently the price is not why you book in for via Expedia (no idea about other sites). When we arrived they tried to charge us for an additional guest which is not clear anywhere on the Expedia site. Again when we departed they tried to charge us an additional $40 for an ‘extra’ person and admitted Expedia does not make this clear. We did not pay as it seems like a bait and switch to pre pay one amount and then show up and be told the price is different.

We stayed here for one night as a mid-way point during a longer drive. We happened to get one of the units on the road, so there was a fair amount of noise. The units themselves were simple, but clean. The staff was really friendly and genuinely nice. The DVD selection is a nice retro offering, especially considering the wifi was not working well at the time. You could walk to town, but it would be a fairly long walk, down the main highway, so plan to drive into town to get something to eat.

Second staying here and again did not disappoint. Lovely feel to the villas and surroundings. It’s a little out of town around 2-3km so if you wanting to be closer to town this might not be suitable for you. But the short drive is a breeze and so beautiful anyway. Last time they had some alpacas there ( mum always laughs as I fed them and one sneezed or coughed on me). They did however have their three sheep and some friendly chooks in the enclosed area. There was a letter for us on reception door and our key in the villa, we didn’t actually get to see or speak to anyone which was not a problem as I knew there would be no issues. Our villa was also the same one we stayed at in a previous visit in 2015. Large, stunning and excellent facilities. Everything you need is In the villa as self catering but you can opt for breakfasts t9 be delivered the night prior of you wish. Thanks for a lovely stay again.

We stayed in a two bedroom villa with a kitchen and living room. It was perfect as we decided to get groceries and prepare dinner after eating out a lot. Felt like home and the staff were very helpful. Also, they have laundry facilities so it was a great time to be able to get some laundry done! Great views of Franz Josef as this is right outside town.

Because of the road closure on Highway 6 near Haast we had to change our plans and stay for one night instead of two. The team were very helpful in sorting this out. The villas are light, spacious and modern with sitting out areas on decks. Even though the road is closed south of Franz Josef, get on down there and support local businesses, there is plenty to do.

I'd imagine they'd have it on site, but I would plan on bringing some just in case. It also depends on what time you arrive as there may not be a lot of availability or shops open to find detergent if you needed it.
Sorry not more specific but we did not do our laundry while we were on property.
There are more places to choose from in the Franz Josef area.
