The view, Kaz, the pooches, the room, breakfast. Friendly, warm, informative, inviting. Perfect place to stay whilst exploring the glaciers. We also headed into Alice May’s for dinner from Kaz’s suggestion which was equally delightful.
Stayed two nights. Massive lounge area, huge bed. Bathroom with two sinks and lots of towels and decent lights to actually see your fact to put on makeup. Also a coloured facecloth for 'makeup' a great idea. Would be good if there was also a coloured one for us fools that dye our hair all the time. We could have ordered breakky as well but did not. Nice big communal area with a pool table etc. We were able to have tea and coffee etc also the lady supplied a toaster for me which was perfect. Just out of town, when I say just I mean just. A minute or so. Lady also helped us with choices for eateries.
Excellent stay in a massive room with all the facilities you would expect. There were not a lot of guests around but I imagine the ski chalet-style lounge would be great fun in winter. It was just right for us.
Westwood was lovely. Fabulous bed and a great room with terrace out to the garden. Bathroom was spacious and the shower was good. Only drawback was the breakfast at 25 per head (and which we didn't take). If you style yourself as BnB then breakfast is a given. However we still recommend it (just get your breakfast elsewhere)
Westwood Lodge is a distinctive Fraemohs timber building, with lovely native bush views everywhere. We stayed in a spacious, clean as a whistle Grand suite with good heating. The layout consisted of a roomy ensuite, bedroom with a Super King oh so comfortable bed, spacious luggage storage area and a lounge. The large Lodge lounge/dining room was warm and inviting with a huge fireplace. Kaz prepared a generous buffet breakfast including a variety of fresh fruit, homemade yoghurts, and choice of a delicious cooked option. Benson and Zak the Labradoodles were gorgeous and well behaved. We had a wonderful stay.
9 rooms. Beautiful building very well appointed. Convenient to town. Pillows a little hard was our only minor moan otherwise first class. Would definitely come back. Breakfast fantastic. Views I am sure are spectacular but weather not on our side when we stayed
Franz Josef. Sort of expected a bit more, as we have had the most amazing experiences in many of the lodges in NZ....this one is sort of Yosemite Lodge, but much cleaner! and that I will say is something, spotless room, bath , sitting area for breakfast. Patio is nice looking out at the view Am sure they house so many one nite guests that room upgrade seems questionable. Manager was gracious and helpful, breakfast was simple , yet covered all requests. Parking is easy, right by your room and location is great, easy access to the glacier and to activities in the area. Although on the main road, we did not hear traffic noise...very quiet there after dark!
Lovely, clean and spacious rooms -- some of the largest we experienced on our trip -- plus the view toward the mountains and the green landscaping made it a perfect place to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine and snacks. Kaz is a terrific host. We left coats in our room, which she graciously shipped home to the US when we discovered them missing. They arrived home before we did! The breakfast is in a large dining room and offered lots of variety. Parking for each room is just outside the door. The property is an easy mile walk into Franz Josef. Kaz arranged our heli flight to the glacier and also provided dining recommendations. All in all, a great place to stay for a few days.
Close to the main road you will find this all wood lodge. Compared to all the other lodges we believe this lodge scores lower. Rooms are bit dark. Bathroom is large but no shower screen so floor gets wet. Breakfast is simple.
Really good place to stay. Room (06) was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Car parking was almost right outside the door. Bathroom was also spacious with two bowls and a good shower. Good breakfast with a selection of hot dishes, along with plenty of toast as well as cereals, yoghurt etc. Short (15 min) walk into town or a couple of minutes by car.
