This is the first time my family stay at this hotel. We love everything . All the staffs are very friendly and helpful . Our room is nice so clean and spacious for 3 people. We love it when the hotel has the guest laundry room. Breakfast was nice. Location is close to everything in town . We will definitely stay again when we have a chance to visit this town.

Staff were all very friendly, we stayed 1 night booking a king room & breakfast. The room was very warm & cosy. Nice comfortable bed. It was the small things like making sure the room was warm, the towel rail already on so the towels we had were nice & warm when we finished a shower. Breakfast was lovely, nice atmosphere, worth paying for as they have hot options bacon & eggs etc and cereal options with youghurt & seasonal fresh fruit as well as juice, tea & cofee.

The Scenic Hotel Franz Josef Glacier is a beautiful hotel near the center of town, making it easy to walk to restaurants and bars, the grocery mart, several galleries, the West Coast Wildlife Center, and several hiking trails. I had a room on the 2nd floor which was spacious and very clean. The toiletries that the hotel provided were high end ones that you can find at a spa. A fan is place in the room as there is no a/c and it was a bit stuffy in April. Our tour included dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant which both times were good as they not only had the typical Western entrees but included a couple of Asian ones like curry chicken and rice. The bar and open fire were nice touches to the small lounge area.

Franz Joseph Scenic hotel is situated right in the heart of Franz Joseph. The hotel is the best I have stayed in in NZ. Staff were 100% helpful. Food at hotel was incredible. Views from hotel room and restaurant were breathtaking. And the kids had a ball.

The desk staff was courteous and efficient. The beds were comfortable and the room had a kettle and refrigerator. It has on-site coin laundry. On-site restaurant with menu or buffet. The hotel handles tour buses, so you need a dinner reservation at times. There are not many restaurants in Franz Josef so it was important that the hotel had a good restaurant.

Convenient for activities. Parking area. Food pretty good. Pleasant grounds. Good base for exploring Franz Josef and Fox glaciers. Also for tramping up Alex Knop a strenuous 8 hour up and down but with excellent views at the top.

My second visit, after 9 years and it's still the same. It's an achievement in itself about how you keep a hotel the same through a decade but kudos to the management for achieving that. Which also means my complaint from last time stays which is that the hotel and it's rooms are not sound proof and being in close proximity to the parking areas, there is a bit of a noise which saws through the tranquility of the space. Apart from that, it was a lovely stay, rained for 2 days of the three we were there but nonetheless it's always lovely to be staying at this hotel. The food at restaurant was great. If you order in early its better because they get pretty busy during meal time. And they are a favorite with the tour groups so good luck finding a table without reservation. The Landing Bar is 2 mins walking distance so that's an option as well. Location wise the hotel is perfect as it's just a stone's throw away from the supermarket (which is a welcome new addition) and the main activity areas which is the heli-hike, hiking, skydiving and the like.…
