Lake Matheson Motel is a 4 star rated accommodation, ideally located 400 metres from the town centre of Fox Glacier. While we have been proudly named after beautiful Lake Matheson, we are definitely a town based motel; while we are not on the edge of the Lake, we are only a ten minute drive away and the same for the Glacier. Our motto is 'simply nice'. This means we provide simple, clean and comfortable accommodation and focus on giving you good quality basics such as quality Sleepyhead beds with cotton linen and great showers. AND we haven't been sitting around doing nothing during the Covid Lockdown! We have been busy renovating our front studio units with new carpets, beds, wallpaper and paint! We would love to host you in our variety of studio and 2 bedroom units, with mountain views, in a peaceful location. We provide unlimited WIFI,undercover parking for all units, some spa units, King and Queen bed units, continental breakfasts, a portable BBQ and a Guest Laundry for your convenience. Well maintained, very clean and perfect for families and individuals. All the rooms have their own separate parking bays directly in front of each unit, there is a roof over the car bays so your bike or car is protected from the weather too - a rare feature. Good quality smart tv in each room with fast wifi plus a kitchenette, some has spa baths too. The beds were very comfortable Debbie in the office was fantastic to deal with and very attentive to our booking - which was for a group. Great location, approx 400metres off the main road just past Betsy Jane’s, making it ideally located for dining. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.

My stay at Lake Matheson Motel in Fox Glacier was fantastic, and I can’t recommend it enough. The room was incredibly comfortable, with thoughtful design and cozy touches that made it feel like a home away from home. The bed was especially comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep, and everything was spotlessly clean and well-maintained.
The staff were welcoming, friendly, and went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. They were not only helpful with local tips but also genuinely personable, making me feel truly cared for.
The location was perfect, offering stunning views and easy access to Fox Glacier and the beautiful Lake Matheson area. For the quality of service and accommodation provided, this motel was incredible value for money.
If you’re visiting Fox Glacier, Lake Matheson Motel is a must-stay. I wouldn’t hesitate to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, great service, and an ideal location.

Needed last min accommodations for 2 couples and found the Lake Matheson Motel. What an excellent discovery! Everything seemed new: linens, bedding, comfy chairs, kitchenette items and paraben-free/sulfate-free body wash. If you need late night check-in, your room key will be left at the office. Loved this place and would stay again!

Great spotlessly clean motel. Your vehicle can be parked right outside the room for easy unloading. Perfect for a South Island Road trip. Bed comfortable and plenty of sockets for charging. We had a king bed and spent a comfortable nights rest. No complaints.

Very comfortable nights sleep. The room is really clean, the attention to detail is excellent. Would really recommend staying here either over night or more when you’re in the area. It’s off the main road so there is little traffic noise. The bed is very comfortable and the quality of the linen is up there.

I arrived and was warmly greeted and shown to my room. Debbie and Rob the hosts have been busy and updated every room with 40 inch full smart tv's. Was great as raining so I could watch Netflix. Undercover parking was a real plus. The shower had great pressure and was super hot exactly what I needed after a long drive. Well worth staying here as value for money and not on the main highway. Close to a new restaurant which served a great burger.

The motel is located a short distance from town on the way to the viewing site for the Glacier. We had booked a two bedroom unit but as my partner is a snorer the friendly lady was more than willing to give us two separate units at minimal extra cost. The units are large with a very good sitting area - sofa, table - and cooking facilities if required. Very fresh. clean and modern and very comfortable beds. Very friendly lady host. Highly recommended.

We stayed one night at the Lake Matheson Motel as part of a road trip down the coast. The unit was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was well appointed. The kitchenette area was a little small as it was a bit cramped to do any cooking but it was sufficient. The beds were comfortable. There is a handy carport right outside the door which was great for the day we left when it poured down. This meant you didn't get too wet packing the car.

Excellent location . Room has a king size bed , a three seater table , a heater and a kitchenette with toaster , microwave oven , fridge . The bathroom had a shower with good hot water pressure . Wifi was fast and good . We switched on the toaster and the whole unit tripped . That was quickly fixed by the owner after calling them. Outside the unit is a little verandah where you can enjoy watching the view. Overall a good second stay . Will return if we come back to the area again to visit Lake Matheson.
