Detailed Reviews
Very nice, large and clean units. Good sized bathroom with a bath. Close to the road that takes you to Lake Matheson and Gillespie's Beach (a must see). Close to a few good pubs and restaurants. Wifi was very weak. We got a very good price of approx $80 a night, but it was just after lockdown was lifted and I think they were encouraging people to come.
Some milk in the room would have been good.
Overall a good choice for this area.

Nice motel at a good price , but sadly very few people around. Room was very clean and equipped for cooking . Comfortable bed and a couch. Was warm after we turned heater on and also underfloor heating in bathroom. We were glad of the electric blankets. I would definitely stay there again.

First time staying at The Westhaven Motel. We usually stay down at one of the motels on Cook Flat Road but this time chose to stay in 'town'.
Sadly not too many people around Fox Glacier township and a number of businesses have closed. Stayed 2 nights. Room was large. Self catered one night and ate out at the White Pub the next.
Did both the classic Lake Matheson walk, and the longer and steeper Lake Gault walk on seperate days (starts off the main Lake Matheson walking track).
We would stay again at The Westhaven Motel. Price had reduced than earlier advertised, was very reasonable being $100 pn

I made a booking with the Westhaven Motel on Booking.com for the 11th April. However, due to extreme weather, the only road from Haat to Fox Glacier was closed (SH6) was closed. This means that my family and I could not physically get to the accomodation. I have made multiple attempts to contact the accomodation for a refund and Booking.com customer service had done the same but received no response from the property. It is extremely disappointing to see this from the management of the property and I do not recommend this accomodation to anyone

The hotel looks neat and that's all said and done.
It has in-room coffee and tea making facilities.
You can't drink water from the tap.
Overall a simple accommodation but good for 1 night.
Next to this hotel is a pub where you can eat fine.

This was a real disappointment on arrival. It certainly didn’t feel 4*. The room was very tired, there was a kitchenette with all the equipment you might need, however, had to wash the cutlery as the knives were dirty. It looked as though there had only been a light cleaning done, but the beds were comfy and the shower was good. The area felt very run down, there was very limited choice of places to eat but we had a couple of really nice meals nearby. If we hadn’t been within a couple of minutes walk for the helicopter trip we’d booked, we wouldn’t have stayed. In fairness, it didn’t help there was torrential rain at the time, which never helps. There was a minute terrace outside, but only about 10feet from the neighbouring property, whose windows looked right into our room. We did ask if there was another room available but were told no, despite the sign outside saying there were vacancies.

From the outside it looks clean and modern, from the inside it is very dated and not clean. kitchen facilities are very limited. Wi-Fi is really bad, no range and drops out spontaneously. price quality is not good.
location is convenient because of helicopter flights to Fox Glacier.

The location is good and it was nice and quiet. But, you get what you pay for. The room smelt badly of bleach and the shower pressure was atrocious. Also the door to unit 6 was very hard to open and close. You'd think that they could fix this. Would not stay again.

Although our room was very spacious it wasn't very clean. It had left over bacon in the microwave! And didn't look like it had been vacuumed. There were also cars parked outside our room making it difficult to access our room. For the price of $264 I expected a bit more.

We stayed two nights here - warm, clean, comfortable beds, friendly service, toiletries included, good Wifi. There’s good parking and it’s a 2 minute walk to shops and restaurants. Would come back for sure.

As the crow flies it's probably only 20 km or so..and you can take a helicopter flight from the town up over the glaciers to view Aoraki. By road it's probably closer to 500km!! Your on the other side of the southern alps and there is no tunnel. Best is to find accommodation at Mt Cook village or Tekapo but do visit the West Coast later in your trip. Hope that helps
