Perfect location! Felt like a private beach with great snorkeling, turtles, and no crowds! Beautiful sunset strolls (watching whales) along the boardwalk to eat dinner at the other hotels nearby. Room had nice ocean views from large windows

I'm going to preface this review by saying that we've come to Maui annually for decades and have stayed in condos and hotels up and down Wailea. We've always wanted to try staying at Polo Beach Club. We stayed in unit 508. We booked through Hyatt so we did not have the opportunity to choose our unit. Once we got here and realized we made a mistake, we ended up looking at reviews and felt so stupid as we would have never stayed here had we looked prior. We always check reviews and just didn't this time. I think we assumed "It's Wailea. It's right on Polo Beach. It's 1K/nt. It's going to meet our needs." We requested a unit with two twin beds in the second room which is how we ended up in #508. Destination Residence/Hyatt makes you drive to their office before check in to get your parking pass and a key code texted to you. We've never been made to do this with any other mgmt company so that was a little annoying when you've just landed and are tired. Polo Beach Club is an old building sitting right on Polo Beach. They haven't done much to upgrade it and seems like they've simply relied on it's location as a draw. The problem is that most people who are ok paying upwards of 1K/nt expect a certain level of comfort. As far as the property itself goes, it's overrun by 4-5 roosters that start waking you up at about 5am. I know, this is a Hawaii thing. But we've stayed at plenty of properties that don't have this issue. We were chatting about it with a Kea Lani employee and they commented they were surprised no one has "relocated" them like they do at other properties given the price point. They are a nuisance and wake you up extremely early. We've lost a lot of sleep because of them. The gate to the beach malfunctioned several times leaving us stranded on either side our first week. The water filtration station was not working. The parking garage is essentially used by anyone that wants to use it. So even though you are required to get a dashboard pass, no one checks it and you can barely find a spot. Also, it didn't even occur to me to see if there was a club house or shuffle board, corn hole or lawn games, or gym or ANY other amenity. There is NOTHING here bedsides a pool and hot tub which are maintained well. David, who works on site here, was incredibly responsive when we needed a fax and help with the jammed gate beach gate. Unit 508: This unit is 1K per night. We didn't expect luxury appliances, real art or upgraded linens. We expected a level of comfort that was above a Motel 6 though. When you first walk in you get an overwhelming urine smell. Not sure if it's in the carpet that was likely installed in the 80s, in the beds, or the furniture. The next thing you notice is the buckling carpet all over the condo. The beds are rock hard and the King bed is sinking in the middle. Something a new $30 foam topper could fix. Our backs were so sore the entire trip. The "pillows" were odd shaped (smaller than standard sized) nubs we had to cobble together the first night. We then had to go purchase new pillows from Costco to get through the trip. Lots of trips to the store this vacation to get basics. The owner has painfully under stocked the kitchen. If you plan on staying more than a few nights and cooking anything other than frozen microwave meals, do not stay here. We had to buy several items in order to cook during our 11 day stay. We got sick of spending so much and running to Target so asked Destination Residence for a frying pan so we could make the bacon we bought. They did promptly bring one over. We then had to ask for a cookie sheet because we realized we didn't have that either. The list went on and we eventually gave up cooking. So the usual "stop at costco or safeway" and you'll be set? Nope. We couldn't cook much of what we bought. One mixing bowl. So can't do pancakes and scrambled eggs at the same time without washing things out first and re using. Camping is easier. The rest of the utensils are dollar store quality at best. Serving spoon handles that bend when you try and use them. No grill tools. We had salt and pepper, cheap thin roll of foil, saran wrap and that's it. There is a chef knife that is so dull you cannot use it. Don't count on cutting a pineapple on your vacation. No knife sharpener. It was unsafe. The water filter in the fridge does not work and they do not have a Brita filter pitcher ($29 at costco) in the unit which is common at condos here so tourists aren't buying a ton of plastic bottled water. The on site water filter station outside is not in working order. The showers: We stayed 11 days and had exactly 3 warm showers. The rest of the time the water was either room temp or cool. We contacted DRW and they said that the water heater our unit is on is too small and not to take a shower at the same time as our kids in the second bathroom. That did not help the issue. Even if it did, can you imagine paying 1K/nt and having to ration showers between 4 people while trying to get out for the day or make a dinner reservation time?? The unit gets cold water constantly, not just when the other shower is in use. Additionally, they've installed an overhead trendy "rain" fixture in the shower with a hand held just below chest height. The overhead rain fixture has so little pressure that it just trickles on you and is useless to wash hair or rinse. So you are forced to use the hand held. The problem is it is chest height so the only way to rinse your hair is to use one hand to rinse and the other to hold the hand held above you. We all joked we were on the verge of washing our hair down at the beach shower. If you're a woman who has long hair and uses conditioner while shaving - not happening. Towels are old and used up. There is nothing in the unit for rainy days and lazy nights. No games, no books. This condo is stripped of anything you might need or want. You're on polo beach, but no binoculars for whale viewing. There is no stereo for music, or boogie boards for use. (There are 4 beach chairs though) These are all things we've become accustomed to at places like Ekahi and Elua Beach condos, even less expensive properties like Sugar Beach and Maalea Bech resort had better amenities. We've had better units for $400/nt in North Kihei. We had to buy SO much stuff. This is not a Wailea condo experience at all. We don't get too critical of decor but in this unit it is clear that there is zero pride of ownership. The carpet is quite gross and in desperate need of replacement. I couldn't even do stretching or yoga on the floor for fear of getting down too close to it. Pros: You are right on polo beach. The views are great even though you can't see the sunset from this unit, and there is a wall of concrete to your left as you look out of the lanai so you can only really see the far right side of the beach. The hair dryer in the master is high powered so you don't need to pack one. You can hear music from the Kea Lani in the evenings. The couch is very comfortable and new. Reading a previous review it sounds like they were forced to replace it while a guest was here and experienced bugs in the couch. There is no mold in the showers. Housekeeping has been reliable. Destination Resorts was available by text but really couldn't help with much other than running over a couple of items but there was just so much needed. We really needed just one extra hour on check out (noon) because of our flight time and asked twice. They wouldn't budge on it even though they knew we've had an uncomfortable stay. I guess they need that 5 full hours to clean the condo for the next guest. There is no courtesy unit for showers and hanging out after checkout like other properties have either. It is clear the owners will not put one cent in to this condo in order for their guests to actually have a comfortable experience. Everywhere you look, every thing you try to do in the condo just screams "they tried to save a dollar here and a dollar there". The fact that you are on Polo Beach doesn't overcome how uncomfortable the stay is. I recommend staying elsewhere and just driving to polo when you want to use the beach.

We visited the Polo Beach Condo (206) for our babymoon end of January. We absolutely loved the location— walking distance to the major hotels, enjoyed by the ocean path, and far away enough from foot traffic. You can hear the ocean from the condo all day and the beach is right in front of you. The unit was outdated, but we didn’t mind! Such a relaxing place to stay and we can’t wait to come back!

Needs to be moved out of the 70's into current design. Clean, but brown tile showers and kitchen counter, not appealing, looks old. Kitchen was functional, but would like to see more quality amenities. We never cooked a meal, salt & pepper were not even provided. Bedroom furniture looks like original, not in good shape. Master bed, not that comfortable. Wi-fi was strong, and TV was great. Views off the balcony were incredible. Perfect set up for two couples, or family with kids. Although this is quiet community, not sure most residents would appreciate excited, noisy children. Walk to beach is better than any resort in Wailea. Can't beat location, just tired. Destinations was extremely responsive when inquired about a few items. Check-in was very easy and staff was pleasant. Unfortunately until renovated, we will not be returning. Aloha!

We had a big-infested couch, carpet that was terribly dirty and smelly, A/C quit, toilet ran, no Wi-Fi! It was as if everything that could be wrong with this unit was. I’ve stayed at polo beach club for 4 years and never had a problem, but our unit this last year was disgusting. Destination Residence (DR) handled the rental, they were great and refunded part of the stay, but it wasn’t enough. We had workers in our unit more than we were alone, we had to change plans to accommodate the many fixes that were attempted. It was inconvenient and not what you’d want on a family vacation to Maui. We had no Wi-Fi, DR said connect to a different unit on a different floor :/, which worked but it was still slow. We had no couch for 5 days because it was full of bugs. We had an air mattress in our living room because the pull out sofa couldn’t be used because of the bugs in the couch, and the AC quit. Destination Residences tried to fix these things. Two days before we left we got a new couch, several people came and spent hours fixing the AC, two men were there another day for most of the day trying to fix the Wi-Fi. They tried, but I didn’t really want to be in the middle of a fixer upper on my vacation. It was frustrating but we made the best of it. We were in unit 508 at Polo Beach. Other units are great and it’s heaven on Earth, but beware when you don’t get to choose your unit, you could be stuck with the bugs in a dirty place!

Great property, view and ocean front location on Polo Beach. The unit was dated, but well maintained, perfectly clean. Everything was in good working order. We enjoyed the beach. We also enjoyed the ocean front view from the balcony. Recommend this property highly. Did not experience a single disappointment!

Lovely condo with great parking and fabulous sunset view. Can walk or drive to restaurants Everything was quiet even though I could see that several families with children were staying at the property. Beach is not good for snorkeling, which was our main objective, but there are several [busy] beaches and state parks nearby. I would definitely recommend Polo Beach Club, it seems like a very established and maintained venue!

Stayed in unit 606 and had the most amazing views from the lanai. This condo was exactly as pictured and was perfect for our family of 4. Beds were comfortable and kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. Polo Beach is quiet and never felt crowded. We liked that the location felt secluded, after spending some time in Kihei it was nice to come back to our private oasis. We found plenty of good restaurants a short drive away and it was nice to walk the beach path and eat at the resorts. Would definitely recommend this unit and Ali'i Resorts was easy to book through.

This unit 508 is not updated but has the essentials that someone would want and need balcony view is gorgeous directly on a private stunning beach. Upon check in i tried to inquire what exact unit I would get but no such luck. If you are game for guessing then book this and enjoy the carpets may be stained a tad smelly and overall dated like from the time the hotel was built. Location unmatched. Reservations could have accomodated better (also top floors are being renovated so assuming this unit will be next in line! ) Otherwise nice bathrooms comfy mattress and met our party of 5 with 3 teens needs.

Our family of 6 loved the beauty and peaceful beach and condo! The unit had an amazing view! We loved the paved ocean front path that stretched out about 1.5 miles with some of the best views in Maui. It was also close to great restaurants and the Wailea golf courses! Would highly recommend!
