I have gone to the AC Hotel in Cambridge since it opened. It appears to be a somewhat upscale hotel with a fun (but not inexpensive) breakfast. The rooms are nice and bed is comfortable. Over the years it is gone downhill (since Covid), sadly. Breakfast is never guaranteed. The larger problem is the heating system which truly never functioned properly. It takes forever for the heat to kick in, and in winter, the rooms are cold. I was recently there (go there often) and my room was cold. Engineer came, could not fix heat. I had to change rooms and again, unless you had the heat up to 80, it did not work. One hour later, it finally kicked in. The other issue is the cleanliness of the breakrooms where one can get water (which is supposed to be purified) , use microwave. My daughter-in-law used the water there and it was filthy (machine) and moldy! That is a true health hazard. These rooms are dirty period. The hotel is definitely understaffed and overworked. The front desk people do housekeeping things and are running around the hotel trying to assist (they really try their best). The food pantry (where one can buy snacks etc) is pretty bare. They had no cereals, milk, etc for breakfast (which they always had in the past). The management needs to get their act together and bring this hotel back up to speed. …
The hotel is modern, well kept and usefully designed. Located directly within the Alewife Reservation is an added benefit. You're within a few feet of a natural oasis where one could plop down and read a book or do some yoga. Bring a pet - they'll love it! A quick walk gets your right to the Red Line T and you're one stop from Somerville witch is a great spot for dining.
I paid for a reservation a month in advance. Showed up, checked in, and swiped a card for incidentals like usual. They didn't tell me that the booking website had an error in forwarding the reservation and they were charging me an extra $750 for the stay as if I hadn't reserved a room at all. Booking website said to take it up with the hotel, the hotel said to take it up with the booking website. I get that mistakes happen, but nobody wanted to take accountability and attempt to fix the problem.
Quick and easy check in and out. Hotel bar hours are pretty short. Didn’t get a chance to use the pool on my stay, unfortunately. Room was maintained well. Bed was super comfy. Top tier black out curtains. Prime location. Just a short walk from the Red Line. Would stay again absolutely.
Location is great. Easy access to highways etc...The food is delicious at the hotel. Small dinner menu, but big flavors. I enjoyed eating at the hotel more that I expected. European style breakfast was wonderful. I am GF and there were many delicious options. I recommend trying any of the quiches and Chia seed pudding. Service across the board was amazing.
My daughter and her boyfriend were recently stranded in Boston due to Hurricane Ian. The hotel they were staying in originally had no rooms for an extension so they asked if I would help find a room. Not knowing Boston at all, I went on one of the travel sites, just to get an idea of options and pricing. I selected AC Hotel for it's location and rates. Suhan (sp?) took my call. I told her I didn't really care what kind of room they had, I was only looking for the best rate. Not only did she have a room, she beat the online rate by $10/night! Because I was paying with a credit card that my daughter wouldn't have in her possession, I had to fill out some paperwork and work with Quaneka, who might be the Front Desk Manager. I had the pleasure of speaking with Quaneka and Suhan a couple of times each and they couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. My daughter said the room was very comfortable and they loved the location, an easy walk to the train. Would definitely recommend this property.…
Nice modern hotel, well maintained, with a nice restaurant/bar. Rooms are good, spacious and beds are comfortable. Nestled in greenery around, you will love the place. Was here for 2 days, loved the early morning walks around!
If you like this review please remember to leave me a helpful vote as Tripadvisor doesn’t pay anything for me to write useful reviews. The short version is I enjoyed my stay and it was like staying in an upscale version of an Aloft hotel. The long version starts here: I came up and stayed for 5 days for Tufts graduation weekend in May 2022. Staff was friendly upon check-in. I tried to do check-in via the Marriott App and was successful to an extent. While I was able to use the App to open my room door, you need an actual room key from the front desk to use the elevators, gym and pool area. So just using the Marriott App was unsuccessful and abandoned. I was assigned a room on the 4th floor. The room is self is modern in appearance and was very clean upon arrival. There was a small fridge along with coffee and tea maker available. There wasn’t a lot of drawer cabinet space available (2 drawers) but there were a sufficient amount of surface area, plus the room had a 2nd bed that I wasn’t using that I could just put my clothes on. In addition to power outlets there are USB ports available both by the desk and in between the beds where you can recharge your devices. Coffee, tea and water were free and always available by the front desk. The Wifi at the hotel was complimentary and had good download and upload speed. There were also 2 complementary iMacs in the lobby to use. Parking at the hotel is $25 a night, the breakfast buffet was an additional $20, and there is no daily house keeping service. That being said, there are small signs hat you can leave on your door if you need additional towels or just stop by the front desk to get additional anything for the room. Just for informational purposes, across the street is the Alewife Reservation DCR parking with 8-10 parking spaces where you can park for free for 2 hours when exploring the Alewife Reservation “AREA”. About a 9 minute walk from the hotel is the Alewife T Station where overnight parking is $9 M-F and $3 overnight on the Weekends. The room will be serviced by housekeeping on the 4th day of your stay. As I mentioned, my plan had me there for 5 days. While the room was serviced on the 4th day of my stay. I think it would have been more efficient for housekeep to service the room at the midpoint go my stay (day 3) rather then the day before my departure (day 4). I also mentioned that the breakfast buffet was an additional $20. That being said, they sometime offer a complementary breakfast buffet in the restaurant. I’d guess your chances are 1 in 30 maybe. There would be a sign outside the restaurant if that is the case. It happened to be on my 2nd day there, and I thought the breakfast at the hotel was very good (while yes it was also free that day). There were freshly baked goods as well as 2 different types of baked omelets, cereal, eggs, yogurts, and various beverages. While there is nothing “shopping wise” in this area, I also brought my bicycle with me. Specifically it’s a Cannondale Topstone Gravel bike. They let me keep the bike in my room, but the area is also very bicycle friendly, with numerous bike pathways available. I’m happy I went with my Gravel bike rather then my road or mountain bike. Our stay was quick, only 2 days, as we were just passing through due to a change in plans. The room was very clean and incredibly spacious (we had stayed in the city the previous nights). There isn’t much around the immediate area but it is very close to the Harvard Campus and downtown Cambridge where you can find many shops and restaurants. We stayed here to drive out to Salem one day and Gloucester the next, both less than an hour away from this hotel, so it is a nice, quiet area to be in if you want to get away from the city but still be close enough. Overall a lovely stay. Amanda? the young lady that checked us in was very pleasant and sweet and gave us lots of information about the hotel. We didn’t get a chance to visit the bar but it seemed like a nice place to relax and socialize a bit during the week. Our only setback was my husband didn’t realize breakfast wasn’t included so he was a little surprised when he received a check for it.…
Breakfast was fantastic. Not your average hotel breakfast even though it’ll cost you $20. Well worth it. Warm and cold options. Espresso. Kind staff. Beautiful hotel. Quiet. In good area with parks and running path. I would say this hotel isn’t marketed for kids/families. Outside of busy Boston but not far drive to get back into city.
