Detailed Reviews
While the location is great… right next to the waterfall, the campsite is not something I’d recommend. There are 2 bathroom stalls and they looked like & smelled like they hadn’t been cleaned in a week or so. There is no cooking area at all and the showers are actual camp showers (you get like 4 minutes of water) and is NOT included in the camping fee, and can be paid only in Icelandic coin. Go to the waterfall but I would find somewhere else to stay personally.

The site isn't as bad as people are saying. I agree the site isn't luxurious but the amentities are good enough, the shower was fine also. Yes it could be cleaner but it had what we needed, toilets and a shower that worked. On payment you get given 4 tokens which is 5 mins in the shower.
Great location and would stay again.

I feel like this campsite has been destroyed by the reviews but it was honestly fine. We didn't expect much from any campsites however all of them have been amazing. This one included, although it wasn't our top, it is still great for an overnight stay. We parked up (it is right next to the waterfall and the parking for this), and checked out the facilities. Toilets were clean but did smell. You had to pay for showers but we just chose to skip them here and use the ones at the next site. No one was around when we first arrived but someone did knock quietly on our van around 9pm to take our fee. Sinks to wash up and dry your cooking equipment. I wouldn't stay longer than a night but it was more than fine. Open all year and great for a winter stop.

The location may be nice, but at every campsite I expect a minimum of facilities. Among them, toilets that don't smell like pee, and the possibility to take a shower.
Alas, that wasn't possible. Oh, there were nice showers. They just didn't run unless you gave them 4 coins of 100 krona. And nowhere you could change. The local restaurant was already out of coins (I suppose due to guests that came before me), and nowhere was anyone from the camping management to be found. There was a telephone number, but nobody answered it.
Yet they are still advertising as providing showers.

We quite literally, needed a place to take refuge from the storm. There aren’t that many campgrounds open in March, so we were happy to have a map of winter campgrounds. We pulled in during heavy snow and were happy to park close to the bathroom and kitchen facilities in a growing line of other camper vans. The owners brought out the snow plow a few times to knock down the snow which was very much appreciated. The bathrooms aren’t plush, but they are adequate, and the community kitchen/dining room had plenty of space and a heated floor. We would definitely stay here if we should return in the future.

Skogar campsite is a good place for a one noght stop. We stayed i a large camper and enjoyed the proximity to the stunning waterfall and the beautiful hike above it. The campsite is very primitive. There are only a few power outlets for campers, a decent payed toilets, showers, a place to wash dishes, a trashbin and a nice looking restaurant at the hotel next door.

A stunning location near the foot of the waterfall, though in the large car park so subject to vehicles coming and going. It was relatively expensive (2000Kr each) and extra for showers. Basic outdoor sinks and toilets are included but there are no cooking facilities or covered areas. The bins had not been emptied and there was no recycling facility. There is a hotel/restaurant on the other side of the car park, but expensive. It did not feel busy, as the space is large. There is a stream along one side with bushes which give some cover. This could be a first class campsite with a little more attention to detail.

The waterfall is incredible, the camping is the worst I've experienced in Iceland. You are camping in a parking lot. The camping is expensive. I had to pay extra to take a shower in a dirty bathroom, the shower was just slightly more than cold water. Only stay there if you have no other options.

I would absolutely stay here again. We arrived at 4:00 to view the amazing falls, made dinner in our van and then walked over to pay for the night. There is someone at the park from 7-9, so if you don’t want someone knocking at your window, make sure you are at the site during the window. This is a pretty primitive campsite. It was quiet and beautiful after the crowds left. Its camping. If you want pristine bathrooms and a shower, stay in a hotel or an RV park. I was excited they had multiple stalls and more than a composite toilet.

If you want to camp next to a waterfall alongside a stream, this is your place. It is no-frills, and we didn't shower there so I cannot comment on the facilities, but the setting is magnificent and you can pretty much camp under the mist of the falls if you like. It is a big parking lot, but who cares. If you want luxury you should stay at a hotel, if you want natural beauty all around you, this would be a great place for a night. People came by around 10pm and collected the fees. Easy as could be.

Yes, all campsites are the same in Iceland - you don't need reservations and you can arrive any time day or night - just pay attention to signs about where you can and cannot park. If the offices are closed at night when you arrive they will be open in the morning or they will come around and check to see who paid and collect payment then. Super easy!
No you can park/set up camp there whenever you want - staff is on site a couple hours in the evening and morning to check if you’ve paid the fee, you can pay them when you see them!
No tents provided , turn up and pitch
It is open all year round.
