The house is a little old and needs some restoration, but everything is nice, clean and tidy. The amazing waterfall of Skógarfoss is only about 10-15 minutes walk away and more interesting locations are within short driving distance, such as Dyrhólaey, Reynisfjara, Kirkjufjara and the Geysir area.

The best thing about this nice little hotel is the very friendly service, which gets A++ My traveling partner is allergic to onions. We were asked on forehand if we had were any food related allergies. My partner always got a special plate without any trace of onions.

We stayed here in Jan 2020 for one night. We received a warm welcoming from polite and helpful staff. Tea, coffee and pastries were available in the lobby for guests and we really appreciated it. The hotel has a restaurant but we didn't have a chance to try it as we already had dinner before we arrived. Hot tub and sauna were available out the back. The room itself was a little on the small side, but it was modern, clean and comfortable and that was good enough for us. The bathroom was very small too but clean, however the sink was about the size of a tissue box which made in impractical and difficult to use; the shower was also not separated from the rest of the bathroom properly which meant that water leaked all over the bathroom when you showered - not a major problem but annoying. Room had TV, toiletries, hair dryer and towels. It was warm and cosy and WiFi was fast and we slept well. Breakfast was included and was a buffet, unfortunately all the options were cold, we would have preferred some hot options in this cold weather. The hotel is conveniently located right next to skógafoss waterfall which was handy for us to beat the crowds. All in all a comfortable stay and if the small things about the bathroom and breakfast don't bother you then I can recommend.

Room cosy, clean and comfortable. Large window looking towards the mountain and good view of the sky in the dark. In a lovely area with Skogafoss waterfall 5 minutes walk.

Stayed one night and arrived about 8.30 after a long drive. We were made very welcome and offered coffee in reception. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. I had lamb which was delicious and very nicely presented and the rest of my family had spaghetti bolognaise which was also delicious.

The breakfast was very tasty with a good selection of hot and cold food.

Kevin who was working both days was friendly, very helpful and efficient.

The one (and only) big plus was the helpful, friendly and welcoming young woman receptionist and restaurant manager. After that it was all downhill - a very small, cramped room, not clean, most TV channels not working; had to ask for 2nd toilet roll. Room not cleaned between day 1 and 2. Dinner menu had just 3 items on it, very pricey. Breakfast, particularly on the Sunday, was inadequate, e.g. only sliced white supermarket bread. Luckily we spent all daylight hours away from the hotel enjoying the waterfalls and the amazing beaches at Vik.

I was staying overnight in Skógafoss, and wondering where I might get an evening meal while I was there. I noticed that Hotel Skógar was situated next to my guesthouse, so I wandered in to see if I could grab a meal there.

This proved to be an excellent decision, as I was presented with one of the finest meals that I've had in more than a dozen trips to Iceland.

The receptionist (Inga) and the chef were both very friendly when I made my enquiry, and although the restaurant is normally reserved for hotel guests, they were happy to offer me a seat at the table.

There I enjoyed an extremely well-prepared lamb fillet, augmented by a tasty pepper and mushroom sauce, followed by a Skyr mousse with nuts and chocolate chips for dessert.

The meal was perfect in every respect - portion size, quality of ingredients and the skill in the presentation too.

The dining room was gorgeous, decorated with impressive paintings and further improved by an excellent playlist in the background.

After a week in a campervan, this was a delightfully luxurious dining experience.

The next time I'm on Route 1, I'll be sure to make a reservation for dinner here.

Perfect.

My boyfriend and I have stayed at Hotel Skógar twice this summer and each time has been so lovely. The hotel is in a beautiful location surrounded by mountains, with an overlook of Skógafoss.

Kevin made our stay each time as comfortable and homie as possible. His friendliness and hospitality is on point and he goes out of his way to make sure our stay is to our satisfaction.

I highly recommend going to Hotel Skógar, we've gone to many hotels around Iceland and the hospitality of Kevin and coziness of the surroundings will make you want to come again.

Thank you Kevin for everything :) you deserve mad props.

My wife and I had Hotel Skogar booked for two nights via Iceland Tours. We read the reviews and were not impressed. We contacted Iceland Tours and requested another hotel. None were available. We prepared for the worst.

And then we arrived at the hotel.

We pulled into the hotel just as registration closed at 2200, but called ahead to say we'd be in later. The friendly clerk, who as it turns out, performs many other duties, had us checked-in in no time. Our room was on the 2nd floor. Be advised there is no elevator. As we entered the room, with an actual key, I was waiting for the big disappointment. The room was beautiful, the view stunning! We had room 204 which is recommended. It is a corner room with views of the mountains, pastures, sheep, and Skogafoss! We quickly got situated. The bed linens and towels were fine, no issues. After a great night's sleep we had breakfast at the hotel. Nothing fancy but it works. Eggs, bacon, toast, cheese, cold cuts, tomatoes, cucumbers, yogurt, and cereal. The dining room was clean and well organized, and crowded at 0800! My only complaint of our stay was that the coffee ran out and was not refilled. Remember I said earlier the one guy working there was doing alot. We did not eat at the restaurant. Thete isn't much else in Skogar. Vik, about 20 miles east, is the nearest town with a small grocery store and a few restaurants, including a nice brew pub. Is it the Ritz-Carlton? No. It is a small hotel in the middle of nowhere in Iceland. The setting is gorgeous and it was a convenient stop on our way to the Eastern side of the island for Fjallsarlon and Jokusarlon. Not sure why there are such negative reviews. Hotel Skogar has charm, is clean and cozy, and is steps from Skogafoss, where GoT was filmed (last season, Jon Snow and Danaerys land their dragons here)! We would stay here again without hesitation.

When we arrived about 3:30pm yesterday to check in, the young man at the front desk told us, "We are closed." When I insisted that we had a reservation for a triple room he begrudgingly looked at his computer and agreed to give us a room, but no room was ready, because of course, they were closed. In addition, the restaurant and sauna were closed, and the hot tub had decaying plant matter along the bottom and sides; the water wasn't even hot. We chose not to put our health at risk by going in. The room was very small and with three beds you could barely move around, none too clean, the bathroom had a tiny shower and the water varied from hot to cold without touching the dial. The breakfast was appalling and they didn't offer decaf coffee. Never again. Barbara Roberts

This hotel is charming. Diner is made with care with good and fresh ingredients. Pros: the host is the Icelandic Brad Pitt. Rooms were small but full of character. Cons: it's a very small hotel in a remote area.

Where to start? We arrived on Saturday. The hotel entrance is ugly, and the building looks like it needs a lot of work. We checked in, and the staff member was just dressed in a t-shirt and looked like he was not working in a hotel. When we arrived in the room, there was a pillowcase missing, and it looked like the bed hadn't been adequately made.

There was a leak from a window on the second floor in the hall, and someone had put a towel on the floor. The sauna that was supposed to be working did not work and probably hasn't worked for long. The hot tub had broken elements and was one of the filthiest hot tub I have seen, and the smell around the hot tub smelled like sewer. When we arrived back to our room after the hot tub, the room smelled like sewer.

We had a four-course meal for dinner. First was a vegetable soup that was so salty that it was inedible. We then had a salad with salmon. The two tiny salmon slices had a fridge taste, and the salad was dry and had probably not been washed. Then we had a lamb that was so dry it tasted like liver. For dessert, we had skyr with dry and very untasty biscuit crumbs. The waiter was also very unprofessional. Later in the evening, he was drinking wine at the check-in counter. At breakfast, that same waiter was drinking a can of beer at 10 AM. The breakfast was terrible.

Hi Bubbleti, I dont remember a washing room in the hotel usually people are very helpful and there is a camping place in Skogar. I've been traveling by bicycle, therefore light, but I didn't have problem with washing. In good guesthouse I was even offered to have my cloth washed. Have a nice trip! David
