Stracta Hotel's service garners appreciation for its welcoming staff, though a few guests have pointed out inconsistencies, especially during meals. Its location wins praise as an excellent base for exploring attractions and catching the northern lights. The amenities, including diverse dining options, contribute positively to the experience, although some visitors have expressed dissatisfaction with the sauna and hot tub upkeep.
Travelers are divided on the hotel's value, with concerns about the cost not matching the overall offerings. While the rooms are generally found to be clean, their cramped nature and maintenance issues have made for mixed comfort levels.

Detailed Reviews
We were 4 friends on an overnight trip and stayed at Stracta.
We were happy with the hotel regarding location, price, comfort, cleanliness and service, but we were disappointed by the food at the Bistro restaurant
We ordered trout, Stracta salad, veganburger and Stracta hamburger.
All the portions were small except for the Stracta hamburger and we didn't feel saited after eating.
The trout was very small and thin, with 3 pieces of beetroot and 8 pieces of carrots for 3.990 isk. The salad had 7-8 bite size pieces of chicken and 3 cherry tomatoes on a salad bed. There was a single piece of lettuce on the veganburger and nothing else! Both hamburger and veganburger were rather flavourless.
Cocktail of the day was large and really tasty for only 2.000 isk and the non alcoholic cocktail was also good and rather cheap at 950 isk.
The breakfast buffet was very basic but both the bacon and eggs were ice-cold. We let the waiter know and they fixed it right away, but we had already started eating and didn't bother to go a second trip.
Over all the service and food was good, buy the portions were small and some more attention might have been put on keeping the breakfast buffet nice.

Excellent hotel , staff very helpful if needed- would suggest that a wake up call for the northern lights for guests was forthcoming on check by staff in rather than having to ask after you have possibly missed the event. Location was excellent for visiting attractions on the south, food was very good - although the buffet was in my opinion extremely expensive £167 for 2 adults and 2 children. Rooms were ideal for a family room although the walls were a little thin and could be noisy at night when trying to get to sleep. Saunas and hot tubs were a nice added bonus to our stay. Would recommend

This hotel is really well located for touring the Golden Circle and south coast.
The restaurant is good. Open lateish so you can return from your day out at 8pm and still get a good feed. Restaurant staff were friendly.
Breakfast had a range of options, but if you're not there early, skip the "hot" foods. The sit over a single tea-light candle and are cold after 20 minutes.
The hotel itself is fine. Rooms are on the small side, but quiet and dark at night. Heated towel rail in the bathroom meant that we could wash some clothes and they dried overnight. (No sink plug though-in any hotel we stayed in, must be an Iceland thing-which made washing clothes a but harder.)
Hot tub and sauna were fine.
The odd thing is the layout of the hotel, it's a but like a cross between a school camp and a detention centre. Also the reception person we dealt with all three days who appears to hate her job and guests.

We went to Stracta to celebrate our 7th anaversery, what a dissapointment it was.
Rooms were ok, small but ok, showers horrible, the hot tubs outside were so dirty you could not see to the bottom of them, and when you went to the puplic showers (the one's in the rooms were useless) there was no soap.
Well we looked forward to a good meal and we had ordered a table at 20:30 and had already pre-ordered what to eat. Long story short, we waited 15 minutes to be seated, then after 45 minutes waiting our order for drinks had not been taked. So we cave up and walked out. The guest on the next talble told us it had been wors the night before, took them almost 3 hours to finish there dinner.
Full resturant, and only 2 girls working, and one of them started that same day. Managment = Total Fail.

We booked a double room, of which in essence we received, sadly though, it was 2 singles pushed together, for a 4* hotel, we were somewhat disappointed. In saying this, the bed.. or beds were rather comfy at least.
The amenities were pretty good, free use of the sauna and hot tub was a nice touch.
We also liked the fact this hotel offers free breakfast, but sadly the breakfast itself wasn't exactly amazing.
The hotel also offers a 'wake up call service' for the northern lights, which again was a nice touch.
Staff were always readily available, and friendly. And the hotel itself was clean.

Response from Brynjolfur Gudjonsson, Marketing at Stracta Hotel
Responded 2 Mar 2020
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm happy to hear that our staff made you feel at home. I'm terribly sorry about the bed situation, but pleased to hear you at least found the mattresses to be comfortable. We take criticism like that to heart and do use it to better the services we offer guests. So again thanks for taking the time to leave us a review! It was our pleasure to have played a small role in your Icelandic adventures. Best regards from all of us here at Stracta.

Travelling on a five day Breathtaking Iceland holiday with Titan travel we stayed at the Stracta Hoel in Hella for two nights, this hotel is excellent, warm and welcoming with comfortable rooms on ground floor with everything you need tv,hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, bathroom with wet room. The breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice on the upper floor which you get to via stairs or lift, we enjoyed a lovely evening meal in the bar area, staff was very friendly and service was excellent, good housekeeping throughout the hotel, out in the grounds of the hotel you could enjoy the steam rooms or hot tubs, the hotel has a gift shop, and in a good location for walking out and around the area. I thoroughly enjoyed my two nights at this hotel would definitely recommend.
With our guide Jonas and driver Darius we visited the eldhestar horse park, seljalandfoss & skogafoss waterfalls, village of vik, black sand beach, sea stacks, folk museum in skogar, unfortunately we didn’t get to see the northern lights, but all the other interesting places we visited made up for it.

Whilst some severe weather did affect our experience, the staff were extremely helpful and quick in trying to help us resolve any issues. The location is great for exploring the South of the island with waterfalls, a glacier and geysir all within quite short drives. The water does not have the sulfur aroma common in Reykjavik hotels, the breakfast is absolutely superb and the added bonus of the aurora wake up call made out whole trip!

Poor overall experience on account of both lack of staff and clearly a sense of couldn’t care less attitude from most of them. Breakfast was almost always over at 930 already, eggs were apparently boiled the previous evening and peeled, and were consequently ice cold in the morning! Hot tub wasn’t hot, people at reception were usually clue less even on stuff around the hotel and really didn’t care. Apart from a strategic location for the hotel, I wouldn’t recommend it. Nicest people were the young students who were waiting/cleaning tables but were too junior to make any difference to the last mile execution

Stracta Hotel, Hella
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights at the end of April and were somewhat disappointed to find that most of the rooms are in barrack-like ground floor buildings which are very close to one another. We were ‘lucky’ that the first room we were given had a badly functioning suction fan in the bathroom. This resulted in our being moved to a better room, which although the view was onto a grassy/bushy waste area, this provided the room with much more daylight and no-one living directly opposite the window and very close as was the case with the first room.
It's a shame that the fantastic views of the area aren’t taken advantage of in the way the buildings are positioned and that they are all on ground floor level apart from the main building.
The staff were kind and helpful and very quickly moved us to the better room which we were very satisfied with. The breakfast was well laid out and provided plenty of different choices. The restaurant where the breakfast was served was on the first floor of the main building which provided a better view of the lovely countryside surroundings and with plenty of light and air. The hotel was clean and the areas well looked after. There was plenty of parking towards the back of the hotel.

It’s a enjoyable hotel. Have stayed there a few times and it has always been pleasant. Generally, my main concern is related to the service in the bar/bistro where we have had a wait for service for a long time on several occasions.
For my most recent visit, August 2021, however, the experience was less pleasant. With record breaking Covid infections rates in Iceland, there were almost zero concerns for any countermeasures. Very few people wore masks in the bar/bistro and other common areas. Only about half of the staff wore masks, although some wore masks on their chins, not covering their mouths or noses. The experience from the breakfast was very similar. Lot of people using the buffet without masks, gloves of even sanitising their hand first. No interventions by staff.
Overall a nice hotel and good value for money. Really need to step up their game in Covid measures though.

YES in the 2 bedroom suite. Not sure about the other rooms. Great staff and fabulous breakfast.
Yes, very nice bar by the lobby. No other entertainment but it’s only a few blocks from shops, other bars, and restaurants.
You can get as much ice as you wish at the bar or at the reception - for free :)
Probably no air conditioning and it's a good one hour drive from the airport. I was on a tour and ,would never have stayed there if it was my choice and I had the opportunity to check it out in advance.
