The guesthouse is in the centrum of the village Hella, South Iceland. 1 Hour drive from Reykjavik. Home made bread and pastry every morning for breakfast. Hella has almost everything you need: Shops, restaurants, excellent swimming pool and bus stop. All around the corner! Guesthouse Nonni is a good place for the Northern lights. Only five minutes drive to be outside of Hella. And best of all, my garden is an excellent place to watch the Northern lights. Situated in the centrum of South Iceland the guesthouse is a good base for visiting all the wonders of nature you can imagine.

Detailed Reviews
We were recommended to stay at Guesthouse Nonni by a friend who had visited last year. Perhaps she'd built it up so much, that it was bound to be disappointing in comparison. That said, Nonni is a wonderful, knowledgeable, helpful, gracious host who runs a very clean, tidy guesthouse.
The house itself seemed cozy and tidy, not to mention welcoming, but we were stuck in one of the smallest rooms in which I think I've ever paid good money to stay. When we walked into the room, we laughed because it was so comically small, and we had bunk beds. Nonni saw the surprise on my face when we saw it, and said that he asked if bunk beds were okay - I didn't recall any such conversation, and when just scouring my entire email for our correspondence, it was never mentioned. We asked for twin beds, but didn't imagine we'd be in a room that was more like a large closet. For that reason, I'd give this guesthouse a 3/5. However, Nonni himself was so genial, so sweet, and so kind, that I couldn't give this experience anything less than 4/5.
The place is very clean, and very cozy. He also has a great sense of humor, and was very helpful in pointing out places to go and things to do. The two restaurants nearby were a pass, as the one by the water had just changed management and the previous management garnered a lot of complaints, and the other specialized in pizza - we were looking for authentic Icelandic cuisine at a friendly place and ended up going to Hvolsvöllur to see the Saga Museum (highly, highly recommended - you get to be a part of Icelandic history in the back room where you can help embroider the saga tapestry!) and stopped at Eldsto Art Cafe and Bistro, which had the most incredible Icelandic food (and a friendly bickering staff that kept us amused with their banter).
A few random things about Guesthouse Nonni:
1) My friend (and others) had a lot of problems connecting to wifi, so there are connectivity issues if you're counting on it;
2) Be sure to bring cash, since Nonni does not accept credit cards; and
3) Nonni provides a nice variety of breakfast foods (fresh breads, fruit, cheeses, meats), but do not expect any warm food or anything specially prepared per person.
All in all, Nonni boosted the rating, but we were a bit disappointed with the room overall for the price.

I am sorry you were not quite satisfied with your stay in my home. My guests have 2 possibilities to book a room: 1. They send an e-mail to me and ask for a room. I always tell them if only I have the room with the bunk bed left and ask if they like to book it. 2. They book on a booking site, f.inst. hotels.com or expedia.com. My room with the bunk bed is not listed there. It sometimes happen a guest can book a room on the booking site and the room already is booked direct by e-mail and I have not been able to block the room (as reserved) on the booking site. Then I send an e-mail from the booking site to the guest, tell him I only have the bunk bed left and ask if he likes to reserve it. I do not know what went wrong in your case, I just can say I am sorry and if you come to Iceland again I would very much like to invite you to stay for a night in my guesthouse in an another available room -free of charge of course. The internet connection here is very fast by optical fibre. It can happen people have difficulties to connect. Then they come and tell me. The reason is either they have put a wrong password or the router is overfilled with IP numbers. If it happen I disconnect the router for 25 seconds and everything is good again. Can only echo our fellow TripAdvisor travellers here. Such a wonderful guesthouse and such a perfect host. Granted we were lucky enough to be the only visitors on the night that we stayed, so we had our pick of rooms and the upstairs bathroom to ourselves, but don't think it would have been any different even if it was full.
We spoke to Nonni in the evening about the Northern Lights, and he promised to keep and eye out and give us a knock if they appeared. We'd just dozed off when we had a knock at the door about 11pm. We joined Nonni on the patio outside and watched a 20 minute, brilliant Northern Lights display - thank you so much sir.
An amiable chat over a great breakfast and then we left on our journey.
Fellow travellers, please spend your night in Hella at this wonderful guesthouse.

Nonni was a wonderful hose to us. We stay with Nonni our first night in Iceland and due to weather changed our plans and came back 2 nights later because we enjoyed his company so much. The rooms were nice and clean, nothing special but definitely nothing bad. The shared shower/toilet wasn't an issue at all. The other guests were all younger than us but everyone was very friendly. He made me and another couple staying with him a birthday cake for breakfast when he learned we were both traveling for our birthdays. He is a ton of information and a pleasure to converse with.

This review is long overdue since my significant other and I visited Iceland back in June.
We stayed at the guesthouse for one night before our flight back to the US, but we wished we could have stayed longer.
Like the other reviewers said, Nonni made our stay warm and inviting. From the moment we pulled up to the house, Nonni was great at suggesting various places to eat for dinner (considering we arrived later than expected from the east). (Be sure to try horse meat at the nearby restaurant since it was sublime).
The room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was the best we had on our trip. There was a wonderful breakfast spread in the morning that included a delicious homemade baked good.
The best part of our stay was talking to Nonni and his grandson. They were both friendly and open, and added a personal touch to our trip.
We highly recommend staying here.

+1
We stayed in Nonni's guesthouse after one-day visit at golden circle. The room is comforable, cozy. The bathroom has everything we need to let us have a warm shower for a good-sleep. However, the best part of the guesthouse is Nonni. He cooked terrific breakfast for us in the next morning. Moreover, he talked with us about everything, including introduce us a good coach to lead us a unforgettable glacier hiking. To anyone to visit Iceland, you cannot miss the guesthouse :)

Hi, we went to Nonni guesthouse in May 2011. Nonni is a very kind man and a great cooker!!! We stayed there for 2 nights and our 2 breakfast were the best breakfast we've never had. He has 3 bedrooms with shared bathroom or private bathroom. It's very clean and comfortable.
I never forget my first breakfast, he cooked typical icelandic bread for us. Wonderfoul..
Hope you'll enjoy staying by Nonni.

Nonni runs this guest house as a warmly mountain cabin! The breakfast is a real breakfast with a good icelandic jam and pancakes that Nonni cooks for you! Nonni is pleasant and welcoming and he is able to put you at ease, also if you don't speak english very well... ask him about weather forecast, he is able to anticipate the unprdictable icelandic weather! He also gave us a brief lesson about the correct icelandic pronunciation of Eyjafjallajökul... the guesthouse position is strategic before or after (or both!) landmannalaugar, the busses leave and arrive just five minutes from the house...

We were welcomed by the Hostess and made to feel at how straight away. Lovely rooms. This is not ensuite and bathrooms are shared. Spotless but wouldn't share again in a guesthouse. Went out locally for dinner which was less than average (Arhus). The host came in later and we really enjoyed chatting to him.
The owners were away overnight for a special Icelandic mid winter festival in the North of the island and their daughter was left in charge. Although she produced a lovely breakfast, her indifferent manner spoiled the atmosphere. Perhaps she wanted to be at the celebrations too. This is the reason we gave three stars to an otherwise impeccable guesthouse.

Very good location just off the ring road, about midway between the Golden Circle and Seljandsfoss. Very clean place with warm and comfortable beds. Nice family style breakfast in the mornings so you can meet your fellow travellers.

First night in Iceland and a great way to start with such a friendly welcome from Nonni and Zorro. Northern Lights were amazing that night and then Nonni provided a spread for breakfast that included waffles with homemade rhubarb to set us up for our trip further East.

I only offer accommodation, but my friends at kalfholt dot is do!
Regards
Nonni
This area is is good for the Northern lights. This week I think I have seen them 3 evenings. The sky has to be clear or partly clear, as the lights are so far away in the sky.
If you go to my Guesthouse Nonni site on Facebook, I have a picture I took in my garden. So you can see them very well from my garden (not too much lights around). If you like to stay outside of Hella village it only takes a few minutes to drive.
regards
Nonni
