Detailed Reviews
We did not originally plan to stay at Hestheimar, but pulled off the road early due to a freak snow storm. We were able to book a clean, warm, and beautiful cabin last minute that comfortably fit all three of us. The owners were so kind and helped us remove our car from the snow in the morning at no additional charge, going to far as to pick us up from our cabin in the morning to help. The kindness we experienced from the people here would make me recommend the stay, but the property and space were also excellent!

If you want to stay at a beautiful cottage with an amazing view as well as great service, then there is no way around Hestheimar in south Iceland!
Sadly we only stayed one night this time, but we will make up for it on our next Iceland tour! The cottages are very clean, big, offer everything one could ask for, are generously separated from other cottages, and offer an amazing view into a big valley and horses. The main building has a beautiful restaurant where we could enjoy a great breakfast.
We can highly recommend this great accommodation!

+1
Lovely cottages in a peaceful valley just off the ring road near Hella and view of Eyjafjallajökull!
We loved our stay at Hestheimar cottages. We chose this location because we booked a riding tour at Hestheimar riding stables just a few steps from the cottage. The cottages are in a peaceful location with a full view of the majestic Eyjafjallajökull ice capped volcano. They provided Soléy soap which we love! We could pay for breakfast and supper at the nearby Hestheimar guesthouse - also a few steps away. The cottage was clean and there was a terrace to enjoy the view from. The team in the guesthouse were all lovely and very welcoming. It was great to hear Tash Sultana during breakfast. Grazie mille! 🙏🏻

Clean, unappealing furniture, no local charm. Room 3 had no Wi-Fi, we had to go to the lobby to get a signal. I was told connection works mainly in lobby/restaurant. Not great when you need to check with home or work. Also, no view from room, a wall and yard. I spotted horses from restaurant window.
An email the day before arrival offering pre-order full meal for 7000 ISK per person ($48). In my confirmation email, pre-order dinner was listed as €40/$38. Not sure why the price difference so we declined. (see photo)
Breakfast was good except there is a set staff table near the buffet where they sit and talk during breakfast. Kind of a weird feeling being watched. Maybe if you only need a place to sleep, this works. I hear the cabins are nice. There were too many discomforts for us.

The rooms are OK, very simple and nothing special, but quiet with good black-outs.
The Manager (with a cute haircut, a large black beard and tattoos all over his body) is a very nice chap and most helpfull and attentive.
Breakfast Buffet has a large selection with freshly cooked Fried eggs, grilled bacon and baked beans.
A cosy and charming places!

I had a great stay at Hestheimar! I slept in a cottage on a hill with a great view on the surrounding land and the horse farm. The cottage was warm, cozy and very clean. The staff at the guesthouse was so kind and welcoming, you can also have dinner if you book it in advance. The breakfasts was great, felt like being home :).

The views from the guesthouse were absolutely phenomenal. The guesthouse itself was so well stocked with thoughtful items like cooking oils, Keurig machine, towel warmer, etc. We made our own dinner and ate at the picnic table outside our house and watched the horses and the sunset. It was so serene and magical.

We spent one night here during our trip to Iceland and wished we had stayed more. The whole place was so warm and cozy, from the impeccable decor, big bright windows, adorable horses, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The cabin we stayed in was perfect for our family and had a kitchenette and a pack-n-play for our toddler. (He loved the Winnie the Pooh bedding!!) Breakfast the next morning was delicious. I would recommend this to anyone and hope to return someday!

Lovely cottages which are quite separate from each other so you have space. Although the cottages themselves aren’t huge (perfect for a couple, small for four). Located right off the highway it’s easy to find (although there are two links on Waze - ignore the Guesthouse at Hestheimar link as it takes you to the wrong place). If you want to stay in this part of the ring road then it’s great. Breakfast is great, welcome was wonderful, very helpful staff.

We absolutely adored our stay! Our little cottage was our cosy base for exploring the southern coast and we could not have been more delighted. The staff in the main guesthouse were so lovely and accommodating. They were happy for us to pack up some food from breakfast for our road trips and always kind to chat with. The cottage itself was warm, comfy, and with great facilities. We were blessed to have an experience with the northern lights on our first night and that was truly a highlight of this amazing trip. The horses were also a beautiful thing to wake up to in the mornings! Thank you to the owners and staff at Hesthimar for contributing to our wonderful honeymoon in Iceland. We will most definitely be back xx

Thank you for the response - We definitely would like to do the riding tours but some of the other organized tours such as the Game of Thrones one etc - I can only find them leaving out of Reykjavik - wasn't sure if there were other meeting point closer to Hestheimar,
Um, this guesthouse is in Iceland so very much doubt they will be stocking Cornish treats ;-)
Dear Lynda, thank you for your inquiry. Yes, Hestheimar is located in ca 2 hour´s driving distance from Landmannalaugar, so you and your family could easily do some hiking there and return to Hestheimar in the afternoon or evening. However, you need to know that you can only go to Landmannalaugar from ca 20.6. each year and until Christmas time on a regular car, but if you are driving on a super jeep, then you can go all year round. Please do not hesitate to contact me again, if you would like to book accommodation in Hestheimar or if you need more information. For you and your family I would recommend to book 2 double rooms in the main building or the Guesthouse, but we also offer cottages.Best regards, Lea Helga Ólafsdóttir, owner of Hestheimar, Guesthouse and horse farm.
