We splurged and got a deluxe ocean front corner king room for our anniversary. The website says the balconies are "private" and "panoramic". They are far from private - it's easy for anyone to hop over or look in to your room. We've many times while staying here walked out and had our neighbors right next to us talking. If you are hoping for any private sun bathing or naps, forget it! As a woman, I feel very unsafe here - we've had to keep our shutters closed the entire time - completely defeating the point of a large corner balcony. Also, if you are unfortunate like us, they'll stick you in the tower where one side of the balcony is overlooking nothing but the flat tops of buildings. The ocean waves and view might overcome that except the sound of the water is completely over taken by the industrial fan blowing along one side of the balcony. As others mentioned, the corner balcony is HUGE but has almost no furniture. There are two small, bar like chairs which suck for women with big hips or anyone with back issues. Considering the extra cost of this room, you would think they could put at least one big comfy chair out or even some sort of deck chair to lay on. Basically we feel like we paid $1,000 extra for the exact same experience as our neighbors and a pretty mediocre experience at that. As for the rest: The entire floor is moist (if you walk around in socks they get damp. The lack of wall sockets is insane (no sockets on one side of the bed for husband and coffee machine is balanced on edge of sink.) There are not enough drawers for a couple staying a week (which is weird since this room is advertised as accommodating 3). The furniture in the room sucks. There's only one chair so if you're a couple, there's no way to enjoy a meal sitting together. I would expect that for a regular room but not a deluxe corner room. The chair they do have has weird legs that stick out an an angle (why not a rolling chair like every other hotel???) And of course our first night here my husband tripped over one of the legs and BROKE HIS TOE really impacting our entire trip. Don's has beautiful views but not much else. They don't tell you ahead of time that you have to get there an hour before breakfast or dinner officially ends to actually get seated. Service is super slow. And the breakfast choices are extremely limited (no potatoes without dairy, no pancakes or waffles). If you do get stuck staying here, just go down the street to Lava Java - the service and food are 10x better. There are only 4 washing machines for the entire resort and there is a wait. Don't count on being able to wash your clothes while here. No room service, no printer. For the love of God, do not ask the concierge about the "free gift". They will harass you for days. We will not be staying here again.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Royal Kona and will definitely be back. We booked a two-night staycation here to celebrate our anniversary. Throughout our stay we received text messages from a concierge (not sure if it's an actual person or a bot) we found this service very helpful and it added to our overall experience. The parking situation was easy to navigate and close to our room. The hotel architecture has a charming tiki vibe that looks retro and also well-maintained. The rooms are redone in a modern beachy style and the AC worked great. The best thing about this hotel is the location it's oceanfront with gorgeous views of the water and walking distance to the Ali‘i strip. We stayed on the third floor of the Bay Tower and my only tip is if you want something quiet try to get a room above the third floor or on the south side because there are restaurants right below. We skipped the pool and saltwater pond just because they were not socially distanced. The resort had mask requirement signs posted around the property but bottom line the majority of the guests staying here were just roaming around maskless. At the end of the day, it's all good because we had an added push to get out and spend our days at the beach.

I stayed here for two nights and was very happy with the property. The checkin staff was super professional, and the grounds are very nice. The view from my oceanfront room was just that—oceanfront—which was refreshing given the reasonable price of the room. The hotel is centrally located on the main drag in Kona, which makes walking everywhere very doable. The food at the restaurant on the property was quite good as well. The bed could have been more comfortable, but this is the only real negative I have to note.

We stayed here for four days and we were absolutely blown away by our ocean view and how nice the room was. We looked forward everyday to enjoying our coffee in the morning on our balcony and watching the fish we could see in the tide pools below. If you’re staying in Kona, definitely stay at the Royal Kona and grab that ocean view room!
