The campsites are spacious with a picnic table and fire ring at each location. Bathrooms are a short walk from every site. The town of Elkmont is an easy walk from the camping area. You can reserve campsites online.

We were there the weekend after Labor Day and the campground was surprisingly quiet! By Tuesday when we left, it was less than half full. The location is ideal since it's the closest park campground to Gatlinburg. The sites are fairly close together but not too bad. Since

It was our first time in Smokies, first time in Elkmont. The campground is peaceful and beautiful with very clean bathrooms. No showers, but you can take a bath in the river :) Sites by the river are THE BEST! Falling asleep to the sound of rushing water...priceless. So calming

This was our first time camping at this site. Very glad we decided here. Our campsite was right next to the creek and was awesome to fall asleep to the sounds. The only take back would be no showers but my wife and I didn’t mind we just took a bath in the creek. Holy

We were able to get a site on the river and it was great. There are plenty of photo opportunities. The kids played in the river. We slept in our hammocks not far from the waters edge. The bathrooms are clean and they have what you need at the camp store.

Oh forgot about the fireflies. I would assume the farther away you are from the creek the better chance but I really don’t know.

River front sites are nice. We only tent camp. Personally i would go for the sites across river as they r a little quieter(sides with latter part of alphabet). Another great site we found was cosby campground. Other site of part from elkmont and u can almost always find a site available as most u cant reserve. If u want to reserve one get one on the very backside. Several good trials to hike out from. Smokemont isnt one of my favorites but that is just personal. Never tried cades cove camp but they seem close together for me. Ekmont is best w cosby close second—try both and explore if u have the time. So many nice places to hike around the smokies.

Firefly season peak likely ending although i’m sure still some there. They were out when we were there. Go to oldtown part of ekmont campground to see them best.

Do they have group sites?
Yes, there are group sites available, 15-30 people depending on which group site, tents only.

I've been staying in Elkmont several times a year since I was around 5 and I always see people in the summer tubing down the Little River. You're allowed to tube down the river, but the parking space is very limited in Elkmont. If you can find a place to park at the front of the campground near the camp store, then I'm sure that would be ok. What they don't want is people coming into the campground and parking on the sites. Each campsite is allowed 2 cars, but several people do occupy both spaces at their campsite. So, I'd say as long as you park in visitor parking you will be ok.
