Hotel's Favourite
Summary/Overall
My husband and I stayed at the Homewood Suites-Vancouver between 17 and 29 October because it was a convenient location for our family and leisure vacation.
Based on my assessments as written in this review, my overall score rating is an 8. My star rating is 4.
It was not clear to me during my research before booking this hotel that it was set up like an extended stay, which is the primary reason I want to leave this review so others may know prior to booking. The main problem that I had was the safety or the security of staying in a separate building because it felt more like a condo than a Hilton-style hotel. I like that peace of mind in which someone has to come through a building to get to my room. I would have definitely found another place to stay because peace of mind is everything especially when staying in a new location. The idea of walking to another building just to go to your room or to breakfast just seemed a little weird for the Hilton brand. Buildings 1 and 2 had elevators; buildings 3 and 4 did not. We were in building 4. In summary, the stay was comfortable; however, I would not make another reservation for this particular location.
Security/Accessibility
This was not a typical Hilton-style hotel at all because it is set up more like an extended stay residence. There were four separate buildings that were not connected to the reception/breakfast area. To access the reception area, we had to walk (sometimes in the rain) to have breakfast each morning. We were on the second floor (of two floors) of building #4. We struggled moving our luggage up the two flights of stairs, but we were glad we were staying 12 nights so we would only have to do it once more and many days later when we checked out. A couple in the room next to ours had been staying there for at least a year. They even had a tomato plant on their balcony. There were also pets (mostly dogs in some of the rooms in our building), so be prepared for the barking, although it didn’t really bother us too much. The airport is nearby, so there are planes flying over; however, the noise (surprisingly) didn’t affect our sleep.
Unfortunately, we were not in buildings #1 or #2 (with elevators), to my disappointment at check-in because of the type of room we had booked (2BR 2BA King Suite). Because my mother-in-law and father-in-law were staying with us during our family vacation for at least one week, I was concerned that my mother-in-law (who has hip and knee problems) would have trouble with the two flights of stairs, so I inquired about moving to a lower level room. There was not one available at the time, but by the time one was available (the next day), we had already unpacked, so I decided to see what my mother-in-law thought about her climbing the stairs with a cane. She said she thought she would be okay, so we decided to stay on the second floor after all.
Breakfast
We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. I especially enjoyed the waffles! The breakfast attendants were all super, but one attendant in particular, Teesa, really made our stay very enjoyable. She always had a smile and you could tell she was genuinely friendly. Kudos to Teesa! There were some renovations going on in the breakfast area while we were there that went on for about 2 days, so there was no place to sit down to enjoy breakfast. We were encouraged to take our food back to the room. I’m sure the hotel staff could have come up with an alternate location for people, even if only a few tables were set up in the large foyer area. It would have been very easy to do; however, it took the renovation crew just a few days to return the tables and chairs after the carpet installation. I didn't know anything about their ongoing renovations before making this reservation as it would have helped me make a better informed decision about where to stay for 12 nights. I wish the hotel management would be required to report this information on their websites or to inform those with reservations, so guests could be well informed.
Housekeeping
Upon check in, the receptionist asked me how often we would like to have housekeeping services during our 12-night stay--to which I responded every other day. On the second day, upon arriving back to our room in the evening, housekeeping had not been to the room. I called the front desk to find out why and a different receptionist indicated that we were signed up for every 4 days. I informed her that I said every 2 days when I checked in. The next day we had housekeeping service. Regrettably after this first service, we only had one other day of housekeeping (for a total of 2 days out of the 12). I asked for light housekeeping once in between because I didn’t want to harass the front desk with more requests when I had already done so. We should’ve had at least 5 days of housekeeping of the 12 days. I felt sorry for the housekeeping staff though because they had to bring their carts and then go up and down the stairs for everything to clean our rooms on the second floor (in the buildings without elevators). It would be nice if hotel management would provide them with a storage cabinet either inside the rooms or on the floor landing or a different kind of cart that they could maneuver easily up the stairs. It’s so easy to do your job when you have the right tools and resources.
Amenities
The hotel had available some simple and some extra amenities, which included a patio area, a fire pit, and a grill that could be used for personal use. There was also an outdoor pool; however, it was closed for the season, which was to be expected. There was a small tennis court and a basketball goal near the patio area. There was also a guest laundry area. The machines required a credit card or debit card. You cannot use cash or coins, and we were okay with using the credit card and also found it more convenient than trying to obtain coins. The outdoor seating was very quaint for social occasions or for relaxing or reading.
Room
The room was comfortable and mostly clean, but some renovations or improvements are necessary. There was a gas fireplace in the living room, which did not put out much heat at all, but it provided a cozy atmosphere. The sink drain in the main bathroom was stained to the point that it looked dirty but not disgusting. The cold water faucet leaked in at least one of the bathrooms even when not being used. The toilet, however, had stains or “something nasty looking” just under the lid that I would visually notice each time I entered the bathroom area. I got tired of seeing that when I came in the room so I tried my best to clean it but could not with all the scrubbing I did, unfortunately. The hotel management should consider replacing these commodes to make the room seem cleaner than what it looks. It was very unsightly and when I look at the overall cleanliness of a hotel room–the bathroom especially has to be clean.
My shower time was stressful because the shower head angle could not be adjusted to deliver the force of the water to an area other than my head and chest! There was no place to move to because the shower was so small. There were constant water leaks outside the shower because only a fabric shower curtain was used. Even taking a shower in the other bathroom (after my mother-in-law left) was frustrating. The bathtub was slippery and the showerhead sprayed all over the place. I slipped once even when being extra careful, and my mother-in-law complained about the slippery bathtub/shower too. I’m just glad she didn’t slip and fall! I couldn’t wait to get back home to my shower! None of the shower head settings were ideal. Hotel management should consider replacing these shower heads and adding an anti-slip mat in the bathtub.
I was really surprised that the room had only two USB ports in the entire 2 bedroom 2 bath suite. I’m so glad we brought our plug-in USB chargers to charge all of our smart devices. I was delighted to have ceiling fans in each of the bedrooms, which is really a benefit for people who have a hard time sleeping, and I think that that might have helped me cancel out some of the noise from the airplanes--although it really was not that bad even for someone who has noise sensitivity. The thermostats work really well to keep the room comfortable.

I travel a lot for work; roughly 20-25 weeks a year and am in hotels all across the country weeks at a time. Generally the experiences are nice, acceptable and not really remarkable so I'm not one to comment one way or the other on travel sites. However this recent stay at the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Vancouver WA has been one of the best stays that I have ever had so I find myself here, posting my thoughts.
The hotel is nice, the location is great (right off the Columbia River) with lots of opportunities for fun and food nearby. But what made me take the time to write this review is the staff, more specifically, McKenna and Alma C who host the evening social hour. They are simply amazing! They are engaging, delightful to talk to, and very conscientious about the experience they are providing their guests!
This particular stay was not work related, but part of an unexpected home repair so being displaced from our home was a little unsettling to begin with since I have limited off of the road. The thought of being in a hotel, not able to go home at night when we are only a few miles away was dreaded to be honest. But coming "home" every night to what McKenna and Alma C have prepared for the evening social hour and some lighthearted conversations has made this experience truly remarkable in the best possible way.
If you are looking for a nice hotel in Vancouver WA; want to meet some great people who provide amazing customer service and care about their guest check out this hotel and stop in to meet McKenna and Alma C, you'll be glad you did!

Stayed in room 122 for one night for a stop over in Vancouver. The hotel is a refurbished apartment complex…rooms are huge with a kitchen, separate bedroom, and bathroom with toilet/shower separate from the sink. Kitchen has a full size fridge, dishwasher, kitchen sink, two burner stove, and large microwave.
Bed was comfortable, got a greats night sleep.
Complaints are minor. There are railroad tracks close, as is a General Aviation airport. Both have some minor noise bleed over. Our room was directly under the flight path of Portland International Airport. Once again, not a major problem unless you’re a light sleeper. My wife stated that the toilet/shower area needed a deep cleaning (I’m a guy, what do I know?)
Check in and out was flawless, both desk people were very polite.
Would recommend to everyone to stay again.

Our room upon arrival demonstrates laziness in cleaning. Red substance on the counter, hairs in the bathroom, end table and on the bed, and then the bugs flying everywhere. The staff at the hotel apologized and offered to move us to their last available (accessible) room on the first floor. We did not take the room. The staff was understanding and willing to contact other properties in the area and a manager called to follow up and apologize again the next day. We called them back but never connected with them. This hotel also advertised rooms with a river view which is completely untrue. The property is 'near' the river but no room has a view of the river since a new development was built between the hotel and the river. Their website and room descriptions are inaccurate.

From the location, to the service to the rooms it was all top notch. I always judge a room by the comfort of the bed and the shower water pressure (thick hair is a real world problem :) - slept like a baby and the water pressure was perfect. Room was amazingly clean and sanitized, one of us used the remote check in and the other room got their key at the front desk - both went seamlessly.
Thank you!
Thank you!

The entire reason for paying for an overnight stay is to get some rest. This hotel really doesn't live up to the Hilton name as there are no quiet hour set or enforced. We requested a quiet room, and we were kept up until after 3am with the people below us who had guests coming in and out all night. They were loud, and the hotel had not security walking the premises to survey these types of situations. We did call the front desk and the noise then stopped. I don't think paying guests should have to create their own quiet system.
The beds have old and unsupported mattresses. Very low quality, and the duvet cover was an awful poly-mix. The room itself was large and well-designed. The breakfast provided plastic service ware, and in 2022, how can any hotel supply more plastic?

A group of 8 families stayed in this hotel. The first night one of the cars had it's catalytic converter cut from it. Hotel management was very uncaring. Kari, the GM, told us this was a "safe" area, but obviously it is not. She also said that she would share video surveillance but never did. She also said that she knew things like this were happening all over the country in Big cities. If she knows this, why doesn't the hotel add a night security guard that can make the property safe for customers staying there? Instead she was dismissive. She never called me or my daughter who had the damage done to her car.
I doubt that the cameras actually work. If I were to schedule this again, I would stay on the Portland side around airport way and stay at a hotel that has security. For the Homewood Hilton to charge $250+ a night per room and not have security is absolutely irresponsible. I will NEVER stay at a Hilton again.
As far as the rooms, they were ok. Typical rooms. Not worth $150 more per night compared with other hotels along airport way in Portland. And definitely not worth the $3,000 it cost my daughter to fix her car.

The young lady at check in was very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean. There was an intermittent loud noise, sounded like water pipes maybe, that was loud and annoying, but it didn't happen a lot. The one thing that should be checked on during the breakfast service is to be certain the food that is supposed to be hot is hot. The sausage, potatoes, and french bread sticks were cold. Overall a nice hotel with a great location.

Chose this hotel since it was close to Beaches Restaurant where we were meeting family for dinner. It was a very short walk to the restaurant. The front desk staff was very good, especially Joel who answered all my questions and got us a room on the top floor of the main hotel. (I had tried the website to check in and pick our room, but the site didn't offer any options?). We liked the room layout with a kitchen/sitting area separated from the bedroom by French doors. The beds are comfortable, and the location is pretty and quiet. The place could use an update, especially the bathroom by changing the tub/shower to a walk-in shower. Rooms with just a shower are for guests requiring a roll-in shower.
The breakfast was the average hotel provided breakfast with nothing new or special.
HATE satellite disc television service as it's difficult to use in hotels, maybe home service is different? I used to travel for work and could tell immediately when the hotel offered satellite TV service. It's hard to get the guide to work, difficult to change stations, etc. Just pay the extra money and get cable service!

The new management was friendly, informative, and fully met our needs without hesitation for our family/Spring Break. The breakfast bar was well stocked, fresh, and manned the full-time to ensure needs were met. The room was clean, well appointed, spacious, quiet and a perfect fit for our family, we felt so well rested/refreshed and would recommend and stay again! Thank You!

They are located in Washington. If that is a critical issue, choose another Hilton facility in Oregon and close to the airport. This place, however, would be worth a tazi.
Yes, they have a shuttle to take you to the airport but they don't pickup from the airport.
