This historic, family run hotel is a perfect place for friends and family visiting New York University: the campus buildings are close by, and Washington Square Park always seems to have something interesting to watch.
The compact, quiet bedrooms have crisp white bedding, toweling robes and slippers: the bathrooms gleam, and have been elegantly re-designed.

The style of bedroom decor seems to recall the 1940's and '50s: peachy beige painted walls, black and white framed photos of long gone film stars, polyester drapes in shades of muted plum, and early, blue hued, energy saving bulbs in the bedside lamps

A well supplied continental breakfast is included, and can be enjoyed in a quick stop format, with good coffee: or steps away in in their North Square restaurant for a full and varied menu.

Have stayed here a few times, as family near by: and discovered that the room rates can fluctuate enormously. Happy to find $139 + tax on a Sunday night in February - pay ahead, no changes allowed. Do suggest booking directly - their website works well .

My son and I spent a quick night in the city and the WSH was a perfect spot for our visit. It was clean, convenient and comfortable. The bathroom was brand new, the linens and towels clean and plush, and the 4 layers of window coverings kept out both noise and light extremely well. The staff was SUPER friendly and helpful. Ronnie / Ronny? entertained my son a lot and we even left with a few goodies from him for my son to take home. So sweet. We will be back.

We visited New York pre cruise. Having booked a deluxe room, on entering the room my friend was ready to go back to reception and complain but realised that this was the deluxe room! Very small in comparison to other hotels we’ve stayed in over the years, on a positive note it was lovely and clean, the shower room was small, recently renovated and immaculate. The beds were very comfortable, lovely white quality bedding. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. It is quite a way out of the city 2.6miles so it was necessary to use the subway a novel experience, plenty of helpful folks around to help us gain the tickets, the nearest station is only a 3 min walk from the hotel. We ate at the hotel the second night, food was delicious as were the cocktails, approx £100 for 3 courses and a couple of cocktails each. Staff were very friendly and helpful, The hotel is well thought of by the New Yorkers. I would be happy to return to the Washington Square Park hotel. We chose to stay at a peak time so found the hotel expensive in comparison to others we have stayed in, but realise that was due to the time of our visit.

I've been to NYC many times so I wanted to stay somewhere a little more quiet & quaint. I love Greenwich area and there are not a lot of hotels there. We've stayed here before & the location is perfect. We have 2 kids (8 &11). The park across the street was perfect for them. They loved playing there & it seem like there is always something going on there. 'I am Legend' was partly filmed there as well so it's neat to see. You're minutes away from Soho & a 18 minute walk to Chelsea Market. WSH has a bunch of places to go in the area...they posted it on their website which is fantastic. i'd like to add Kesté pizza on Bleecker to the cheap eats for $5 pies that are amazing & you cannot beat the price or the taste.

WSH has a continental breakfast in the am...fruit, toast, coffee, OJ, yogurt, scones, muffins, jam, peanut butter, nutella, granola, pastries. Which is great. It's near impossible to find any hotels that offer complimentary breakfast in Manhattan and that saves you money because everything is so expensive.

Only complaint are the beds. We took a room w two double beds for 4 ppl. The beds are tight. We were ok with it tho as everything else was perfect. The elevators are small...I mean small. Maybe 4-5 can fit in the one, 8ppl in the other comfortably. The hotel is in an Art Deco Decor - which is probably the era of when it opened. The hallways are a little dated. Everything is clean and tidy. We stayed on the 9th floor and the view was amazing. We pulled up the shades at night when the lights were out & its a beautiful view. This is a boutique hotel. It has character but it is smaller.

Ron at the front desk is great! He is a wealth of knowledge & helped us out a lot. We would definitely go back to this hotel. I emailed before I went to have a fridge put in & when we arrived one was in our room.

Having stayed here several times over the past 10 years, you start to recognise familiar faces. Very friendly and helpful staff. Well run, clean and good size rooms (for NY). Downstairs the in-house restaurant is popular, with a jazz-brunch Sundays in the downstairs lounge attracts many local regulars so you need to book. Right on the NW corner of Washington Sq. West 4th St Subway is 100m away on corner 6th and Waverly Pl, also busses uptown. If you want to have breakfast out, try the Waverly Restaurant on 6th. Macdougal St has plenty of restaurants, bars, comedy. Pretty much everything is a short walk actually, so its perfectly located for Village life. Although there is a bar downstairs and on the ground floor, they were rather quiet (except Sunday jazz), but there are plenty of bars around if you need that. Overall exceptional value and location. Hotel will arrange $65 JFK transfer (includes tolls, but tip the driver).

I spent two nights here in early November 2022. Located on the northwest corner of Washington Square Park in lovely Greenwich Village, this hotel is a gem in the rough. My wife and I had a superior room on the second floor with a window overlooking Waverly Place with views of the park. Our room was small, about 150 square feet (about 14 square meters), but clean and efficiently designed with drawers and closet space to store your clothes, shoes, and assorted belongings. It contained an in-room safe. The bed was very comfortable and you can control your own heat. The bathroom was small but spotless with sufficient towels and complementary toiletries. There was a tub with shower. The water pressure from the shower was very good and there was ample hot water. The shower was also easy to operate. The interior decor of the hotel was attractively decorated with tiled mosaics throughout. There is also a restaurant and small bar on premises with outdoor seating available in the now ubiquitous street kiosks. Although we didn’t eat here the food smelled wonderful. Staff at the front desk were extremely pleasant, friendly, helpful and efficient. With this hotel located right at the park you cannot find a better and more Central location in Greenwich Village. We highly recommend this establishment. Remember to leave enough time to enjoy the park with its many visual artists and musicians. On the day we left there was even a solo pianist playing there on a grand piano.

Location! 10/10
Amenities 10/10
Value 10/10

Tons of restaurants nearby, subway is two minutes away (walking).

Bathroom has toiletries such as shampoo/conditioner/body wash etc.
Lots of towels! Fresh everyday!
Two sinks in quad room & Big and spacious
Shower has decent water pressure with hot water

Has:
blackout curtains
Fridge
Safe
Coffee bar w/decent coffee
TV
Storage for clothes
Robes/House coats
Slippers (the floors are cold vinyl)

We stayed here for a week. Quad room was spacious enough for the 3 of us (can have 4 people). Probably the biggest hotel room in NYC! We had a corner room on a lower floor with view of the street and park.
Unfortunately there was construction everyday starting at 0730 except Sat and Sun. I don’t recall being warned of this and it definitely impacted our stay. We were woken up to loud obnoxious street construction 5/6 days
All this being said, the cost of the hotel reflected this, as the room and location would have likely been double anywhere else.
The hotel is a solid 3 star hotel.
Bed is firm but not hard - I like a soft bed and this was not uncomfortable.
This is an old hotel family owned - if you’re expecting 5 stars for a 3 star price you would be disappointed.
I am very satisfied even with the construction issue we would hands down stay here again.

Honourable mentions for food nearby:
Mamoun's Falafel - so good and cheap too!
Bombay Bistro! In the top 3 Indian food places I've ever eaten. Flavours to die for! A MUST try!

I have stayed here about 4 times over the years and I stayed in September and just this week. In September they did not clean the rooms, I understood, it was the middle of the virus. But NYC is now open for business, yet, on my check in, there was a note they wouldn't clean the room for the first three nights, although you could call for towels. This place is fine, nothing fancy, but has character and history. Come on, get your act together for over $300 a night, at least dump the garbage can. And the staff needs some training, too, restaurant not open for breakfast and the only place the front desk person could send me to was the diner.

We sincerely appreciate your feedback, Cathleen, and we apologize for your disappointment regarding service. While the city is very close to operating at pre-pandemic levels, there are still guidelines and protocols set forth by the CDC and NY State Department of Health that we must abide by. We hope to resume normal service as soon as possible, and look forward to delivering a better experience for your next stay.

We had a great stay at this hotel. First, the staff who greeted us when we arrived were very friendly and efficient. Next, our room (we had an executive king room) was large by NYC standards, and had a great bathroom with double sinks and a spacious walk-in shower. I also appreciated the location of the hotel, and it was a good value compared to other hotels on the weekend that we visited. We only had one meal (breakfast) at the attached restaurant and the food was very good, but it took a long time to get our beverages and our food. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

My wife and I have travelled to New York several times, usually staying in the Times Square area. Three years ago we decided to get away from the large crowds and try a different location. We stayed at the Washington Square Hotel and were glad we made the choice. This month we stayed here again and found it as nice as the first time.
The hotel is located in Greenwich Village, right next to Washington Square Park. There is a subway station just around the corner, so you can easily get anywhere in the city with just a short walk. There are many restaurants nearby including one at the hotel itself.
Due to the pandemic breakfast was not being served at the hotel. The Waverlly Restaurant, only one block away, serves meals throughout the day. We ate breakfast there several times and thought it was very good.
We stayed in a king room which overlooked the street in front of the hotel and had a view of the park. The room was very large and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was also large with double sinks and a walk-in shower. The shower was excellent, with plenty of hot water and good pressure.
The staff treated us nicely and took care of our needs. They booked a ride to the airport for us, which arrived promptly with a courteous driver.
If you want to get away from the large crowds and save some money this hotel is a good choice. We would definitely stay here again if we return to New York.
