Detailed Reviews
You really feel the flavor of the Harlem Renaissance era here, from the food to the decor and the music. Everything is new and clean, although the rooms are quite small and you may have trouble unpacking a checked bag here without putting on the bed. The blackout shades in my room were off the track so they didn’t go up or down properly, but otherwise the room functioned fine. I’ll also note since it is a glass building, you hear your neighbors clear as day as the sound travels along the windows from room to room.
Despite that, I’d happily return!

Good hotel…..if traveling solo. Love the design of the hotel (except the bathroom). Lobby / bar is lively…may be a bit too loud for some. Location of registration is a bit odd as it looks like the host desk of the bar.
Staff was friendly throughout the stay. And the nightly vouchers for the restaurant/bar encourages people to be in the lobby.
Room decor design was great but can’t imagine traveling with another and sharing the room with a kid, sibling, or even spouse. There is NO private bathroom in the hotel room design. Yes, it is private to the room, but within the room, the toilet and shower may as well both be out in the open. The “bathroom” is only separated by a mirror and the back of the vanity. You can see / hear around the mirror, and the pocket door may as well not be there as it closes only to the vanity shelf, so you can see above and below the counter directly to the toilet and shower. Ummmm..awkward. Who thought of this design? Why not just enclose with frosted glass if you don’t want to install a normal wall.
Anyway, I’d go back on a solo trip but never if I was sharing a room.

This wasn’t a planned stay. Due to a flight cancellation this was the closest hotel to LGA. The Aloft was also an option but I selected the Renaissance because I thought that a Renaissance would provide more services/amenities to make my unexpected stay more comfortable. I was wrong.
Upon checkin the room I booked was not available. Apparently they had rooms listed as available on their site that were not available. There was no concession made for that. There was no bottled water at checkin or in rooms. The room was clean. The beds were very low and a curtain separated the bed area from the bathroom sink (this may be awkward if sharing a room). There is no room service and no gift shop to pick up incidentals.
As a platinum member you do get a restaurant voucher but be sure to check the restaurant hours. Service is nothing special. The hostess was more interested in spending time at the bar with the bartender and taking with coworkers. For lunch they wouldn’t allow you to sit at the table height tables so you could properly eat your meal which was awkward. Food was ok for hotel food. I struggled to find the best way to describe the service. I think all round the feel was people were simply doing their job. There was no spirit of hospitality or going above for their guest. It wasn’t a horrible stay but given the option I won’t return.

Arriving at the frontdesk I was impressed by the vibe. It looked fun after along day of work. But then it started : 1 hr to check in although payment was made before by my company. Went finally to the room where I couldn't hear myself thinking because of the noisy aircon. So switched it off as it was a rainy day/night and not warm. It became a problem later that week as the sun was shining. Next morning going to complementary breakfast with a voucher that had to be collected every morning. Actually breakfast was not free but 5,44 the first couple of days, then it changed. It was free but no choice anymore, and then it changed again.. Day 3 breakfast coffee was cold, waitress said that the chef made the coffee the evening before and gave us espresso coffee (friendly waiters&waitresses by the way). Surprisingly there was no houskeeping for the first 4 days untill I asked the frontdesk (also very friendly but not trained) and then housekeeping came in even with 'do not disturb' sign on the door. Laundry : this is a disaster - had to way 3 days after depositing my laundry, It came back in a plastic bag not ironed and the shirts were not dry cleaned as requested. Upon check out on day 10 there was still a pair of trousers missing. I didnt get them back yet. The hotel should stop doing business with this supplier.
The bar/restaurant is great at night, the staff is wonderfull. Food is pricy for what it is. I had an oil soaked burger at one occasion (23$), the chicken sandwich was ok as were the calamari.
Checkout/billing : disaster... mixing up between creditcards, unable to send bill to my email (still didn't get the bill). Again training of the staff should be at
a higher level for this kind of hotel. a lot of potential but everything is chaotic.

+1
The hotel is located 2 buildings from the famous Apollo Theatre on 125th Ave in Harlem !
There is a combo lobby bar and restaurant on the mezzanine that has vibrant lighting and art( see pics ) ! There was even poetry by famous African-American poets on the walls and ceilings. Our city-view room had a wooden frame, with mirrors for a headboard!
The food and drinks were typically priced for NYC. But, the ambience will hold you there to people watch the diverse clientele. We saw Asian, Europeans, Latinos, you name it. The locals obviously liked it, too!
The restaurant manager, Mike Garlick, even chatted with us when was informed that we were celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary. Well, done Renaissance!

Husband and I had a 3 night stay at the Renaissance New York Harlem Hotel. We heard about the hotel from my niece during her visit to NY. We are native NYers who now live in NC. What a pleasant surprise. Just what Harlem needed. It’s the best thing since Covid, which destroyed so many up and coming new businesses. It pays tribute to the environment with the music and all the pictures of our Black contributors. I’m proud of you Marriott! Great job! Our room was a little tight, but it was very clean and modern and I’ll take that over a lot of space. Those pillows are everything and I slept like a baby. After that visit, I think I’ll stay at a Marriott wherever we go. Do NOT PASS, GO!!!

My king room was compact but very clean and stylishly outfitted. It had a floor to ceiling window wall with a great view. Security seemed very solid—-reception is on the 5th floor and you need a key card to go above that level. It’s a great neighborhood with lots of pedestrians. The famous Apollo Theater is next door. The front desk staff during the evening I checked in (1/17) were above and beyond in their welcoming vibe and friendliness. And the whole staff seems friendly and happy to see you, which is a bit of a surprise in NYC.
The restaurant on the 5th floor had lots of affluent and diverse hipster looking people (yay!), it’s a nice spot for a drink. We had breakfast there one morning and the food was meh tho the service was friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

This hotel leaves much to be desired. Our experience is that the hotel was not ready for opening. The staff was stellar, which made our stay enduring, but we would not stay at this hotel again. The hotel seems to have a younger fresh vibe, which we assume was the reason why the music was playing a little louder than usual in the hotel lobby. Let me start by mentioning the rooms. We got 2 queen beds, but there was only 1 night stand in between both beds. There is a runner that runs along the foot of the bed, which is a definite trip hazard, because on several occasions my guest and I tripped over the rug several times. The water to fill the coffee pot ran so slowly, to the point of frustration when trying to make a basic cup of coffee/tea. We lost all hot water on the final day of checkout, and I was forced to boil water from the coffee pot and pour it into the tub, just to take a cold bath. The stopper for the bathtub would not hold water, so we had to rig it with plastic just to keep the water in to take a cold bath. There are only 2 treadmills in the work out area and 1 of them was already malfunctioning...not sure about the other equipment. I wasn't sure why they did not have a restroom close by when designing their exercise area, because everytime a bathroom break was needed, I had to go to the lobby or my hotel room to use the restroom. This design was not thought out at all. This hotel only offers an ice machine on level 6, which is sad for a hotel this size. In our opinion we would have received a better value at another hotel. This hotel drew us in, due to it being a newly opened hotel, but for the price, we could have done much better.

I was really disappointed in the whole experience. I had checked in on the mobile app, so I thought swinging by the front desk to get my keys and restaurant vouchers would be a breeze. The 3 ladies there were rude and kept shuffling me to a different computer and different person. Even though I provided my card in my mobile check-in like usual, they wanted to run my card again and told me I didn't have a high enough status to be able to trust my card on file. Really?? That's what you tell a customer?? Especially one who may not have elite status, but I have been a member since about 2008. Very rude. Then they said oh you've been upgraded to park view. First, it wasn't an upgrade that's what I booked in my original reservation, so don't make it sound like you're giving me something. Second, the park view is of buildings, not the park.
Then the room A/C was like a storm to the point you can't hear. I turned it off, but then I was too hot and kept waking up all night.
The only decent part was getting the food vouchers as part of the destination fee. Restaurant was good. And thank goodness foe that because 95% of the restaurants around the hotel are chain fast food.
Overall, would not recommend this hotel even if needing to be in that part of town.
