Guests often commend the Intercontinental New York Times Square for its welcoming bar ambiance and prime location, perfect for Broadway enthusiasts and those eager to explore the heart of the city. While the rooms are generally spacious, some visitors have concerns regarding their outdated style and cleanliness. The hotel's cleanliness and service typically receive high marks, with staff being recognized for their professionalism. However, the value proposition is a point of contention, with many guests unhappy about additional fees and noise on the lower floors.

This was definitely an anniversary trip to remember. This was a last minute decision to visit New York for our 42nd wedding anniversary and we made the decision to stay at the Intercontinental Times Square and what a great decision that turned out to be. A few days prior to our arrival I called the hotel to ask if they would add a note to our reservation regarding our anniversary and if available we would like to see if we could be assigned to a nice room on a high floor with a view as a Platinum Elite member. To our good luck and fortune the call was answered by Paulina. Paulina really went above and beyond to make this a memorable stay. Upon entering our room we were extremely surprised and pleased with the room location and view. Paulina also arranged for a nice amenity gift to be delivered to the room and followed up with a phone call to assure that everything was delivered and was satisfactory. The room was very well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. In room dining was very responsive. The food quality, taste and presentation was very good and was delivered in a timely manner. The elevators worked seamlessly and efficiently with not having to wait more than a few seconds after pressing the button. The breakfast buffet in the Stringer restaurant was fabulous. The selection was extensive and so much so that we were unable to sample it all. The service, quality and freshness were top notch . Our glasses and cups of whatever liquid we were drinking was never empty and without ever having to ask or motion to any of the staff. We would be remised if we did not mention Eddie who brought our luggage to our room and was available to assist with any needs, request or recommendations we needed. The hotel is located in a very good location to walk to just about everything including restaurants, for all budgets and palates, as well as sights. This is definitely one for the ages and will not soon be forgotten. The next time we are in New York we will definitely be staying at the IHG Intercontinental Times Square Hotel. Hats off for a job well done.

This hotel was perfect for us! I read the reviews before I left and was a little worried about people's complaints but really, I had nothing to worry about.
Check in was seamless, they took my credit card details and held $300 but this was a hold and not a charge. We were informed about the weighted fridge, but told that should we need to chill any items they could bring a small fridge to our room. Obviously we didn't have to carry our own suitcases up, these were brought to us. In addition to the weighted fridge there is also a weighted display on the surface top, this has water, crisps and biscuits on, anything that's removed for longer than 10 seconds will get charged to your room.

The room itself was a great size, the bed was spectacular, my partner and I could both starfish and not be touching each other! It has a very comfortable mattress, we slept so well.
Being on the 6th floor there was some noise from the street but this is unavoidable, it's New York, famously a very busy and loud city!
Unless you're up 15 floors I expect some noise will be heard. The windows did an amazing job at blocking out about 80% but the bull horns on the fire engines/ambulances are LOUD!

We didn't eat here because it was a touch pricy and to be frank we didn't come all the way to New York to eat in a hotel. There are 100's of places to eat all within a 10/20 minute walk, my advice would be to go out there and explore.

If you come out of the hotel and turn right you will be walking towards times square itself, as well as Broadway. We booked The Lion King at Minskoff Theatre, literally 5 minute walk from the hotel, it was incredible.

The shower was a little difficult to work out initially and the pressure is not the best, but it worked and was hot enough!

I highly recommend this hotel both for location and for comfort, I would 100% stay here again

Thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful experience at the InterContinental New York Times Square. We are delighted to hear that the hotel exceeded your expectations and that our staff was able to ensure a seamless check-in process for you. It's great to know that the hold on your credit card and the information about the weighted fridge and display were clearly explained during your stay. We're glad that you found the room to be spacious and the bed to be incredibly comfortable, allowing you and your partner to get a restful sleep. While there might have been some unavoidable street noise due to the bustling city, we appreciate your understanding and the acknowledgement of our windows reducing the majority of noise. It's wonderful that you choose to explore the various dining options in the nearby area which indeed offers an abundance of choices. We're also happy to hear that you were able to enjoy the Lion King musical at the conveniently located Minskoff Theatre. We apologize if the shower pressure was not up to your expectations, but are glad that it was functional and hot enough for your needs. Your recommendation is highly appreciated, and we are thrilled that you would choose to stay at the InterContinental New York Times Square again. We can't wait to welcome you back on your next visit to New York. Alex K Social Media Manager

The location of this hotel is excellent. You are near all the Broadway shows, the subway, Hell's Kitchen, Lincoln Center, Penn Station and Long Island Railroad. The hotel is large and the lobby is well maintained. My check in went smoothly. The room I was assigned was very nice, much larger than most of the hotel rooms I have stayed in when I come to the city. This was unique in that it was a corner room with windows on both sides and black out drapes for a good night's sleep. The bed was very comfortable, maybe a little soft but not overwhelmingly so. The lighting in the room was excellent. I find that in most hotels the lighting is suboptimal making it difficult at times to work. There was a wonderful desk area which made working easy and an excellent desk lamp which was really helpful. The closet had adequate space for clothing and each nightstand had drawers for storage. In the closet there was a safe, an iron, an ironing board and a Keurig with coffee amenities. One thing I really liked was that there were real cups for the coffee, not plastic or styrofoam disposables. This was a nice tough. The bathroom was large, the walk in shower was wonderful with a raindrop head and good hot water and pressure to match. There were ample towels, a hair dryer and toiletries provided. One may find it a little pricey but it is worth the extra comfort. I did not take advantage of eating in the hotel-there are plenty of places to eat outside the hotel which are less expensive. I had a very pleasant stay and my only regret is that they could not accommodate me for my next visit. The hotel was full.

Overall our stay was comfortable. The upgrade we got for being part of the Ambassador member was just the same type of room on the 19th floor. My usual request to be away from the elevator and ice room due to noise concerns were not respected. The room was generally clean but the carpet was dirty. The room only had one pair of slippers and no bath robes. The room had a safe that was useful as it fit all of our electronics. The toiletries were provided and had a pleasant scent. Nothing else was provided. The room came with a keurig coffee maker and a bar fridge full of overpriced items. There is a $35 charge everyday for some hotel amenities which included a $25 allowance for the in-room items like water, pop etc. A bottle of 750 ml Evian was $11 so we just used the $25 towards water. The location of the hotel is very convenient if you are seeing shows on Broadway. We just walked over to the theatres each night. The staff working the doors and dealing with luggage etc. were excellent. The front desk staff was efficient but not too friendly and the lady who helped us seemed annoyed when I wanted the room upgrade that I am supposed to automatically receive as an Ambassador member. Sometimes its the little things that make a hotel 5 stars. Cleaner rooms, improved front desk service and service with a smile would improve this hotel to a 5 star status.

We picked the Intercontinental based on its proximity to Broadway and because we could use points to reserve a room. For a 5 star hotel, it is utterly underwhelming. The elevators had some kind of cologne type air freshener that immediately made me sick. I wish hotels were more accommodating of people’s sensitivities. We found the room to be extremely dusty and somewhat old. The only outlet on the one bedside table lamp was protruding with its wires showing. Most hotels have multiple outlets near the bedside table, so with just one (and a broken one at that) this was very disappointing. The mini fridge is completely stocked so there is nowhere to put leftover food or drink. We found out at checkout that the mini bar items are weighted, so if you pick one up, it automatically charges your room for an item. I picked up one bottle of water to find a price, and at checkout was presented with over $200 in mini bar charges. We didn’t consume any of them, and were able to have the charges removed. The pillows in the room were either hard or extremely thin. The only part of the room we found five star worthy was the shower with its beautiful titles and multiple shower heads. We ate lunch at the attached restaurant. Our server was lovely and attentive. However, the food was extremely expensive and lacking. I had a salad accompanied by a dressing that had zero flavor and after adding a protein, was about $40. The hotel automatically charges a $35 “amenity fee”, a holdover from Covid that they conveniently still charge guests. You can use that $35 towards food or drink at the restaurant, but it’s still a ridiculous fee.
The best part of the hotel was the staff. They were helpful and accommodating. However we will not be staying here again. I’ve legitimately had better experiences at a Holiday Inn Express.

Vanessa, thank you for sharing your thoughts. It’s great to know you appreciated the shower and found the team members accommodating. Regarding your feedback, the hotel values guest sensitivities and strives for comfort. The concerns about room maintenance and amenities will be looked into. The situation with the mini bar and the amenity fee is noted and the hotel is pleased the charges were resolved. Remembering your positive dining experience with the attentive service, albeit with room for improvement in other aspects. The team values all guest opinions and continually seeks ways to enhance the guest experience. My wife and I just finished a truly wonderful 5 nights at the Intercontinental Times Square in New York City. Over the years we have stayed at many hotels in NYC but have now definitely found our new home. The location at 44th and 8th Avenue is very handy to everything and the subway entrance is 20’ from the front door. There are loads of things going on midtown but there is very easy access to all of Manhattan and the other boroughs. There is a very well kitted out gym with towels and cleaning supplies that we used every day.
The location is great but it is the staff at all levels that makes the hotel wonderful. From the first minute the welcome mat is out with Johan and the door and bell crew who are always so cheerful and helpful. Check in at the front desk with Joseph and help throughout our stay at the Ambassador desk with Chyna (sp?) and the ever patient, kind and professional, Rose, was a snap. Housekeeping was very accommodating and the breakfast team of Neil, Hakeem and Samira kept things running smoothly including my quad expresso cappuccinos each morning. Throw in Paul at the bar and from morning till night you are helped by great people.
The Intercontinental Times Square is not cheap but on NYC standards it is a bargain. The property in general is very nice but this hotel is the final irrefutable proof that bricks and mortar does not a great hotel make. It is the people, all of whom are a tribute to the GM Jeff Krauthamer (whom we met while chatting with the Bell team) who runs a tight and professional ship.

It was very convenient to local tourist spots and had great food nearby. Everyone was wonderful and friendly. The hotel was beautiful and had a nice bar and restaurant to order small bites and drinks. The rooms were well equipt and had snacks and drinks for purchase (although we thought they were a little pricey, it was convenient) We felt safe walking around the area, and cars were readily available.

With so many hotels on offer in Times Square it was hard to choose which one to stay at but we chose the Intercontinental due to location and room size and 5 stars. However it did not turn out to be the best choice we could have made.
Upon arrival we were ignored by the door staff and dragged our own suitcases in. Check in was swift and as expected they took a $300 charge on our credit card which was refundable when we checked out. There was no offer to take our cases to the room.
After settling in we chose to have dinner at The Stinger Bar as it was 10pm. The food was good and the service good too. The food here is expensive ($30 for a club sandwich) and the lager is $11 for 3/4 of a pint.
The next day we were going to the Macy’s parade which was the reason for the trip. We asked reception, concierge and the door staff where the parade is and not one of them knew. Luckily we just followed the crowds and is was about a 5 min walk away, so we were surprised the staff did not know this.
We returned from the parade for breakfast and this was ok. Not great but ok and there was a sense of being rushed as they were so busy they clearly needed the tables. The breakfast is $38 each but the next day we found Juniors up the street which is a typical American diner and the food was amazing. Pancakes, grits, scrambled egg and bacon, everything you would imagine an American breakfast to be.
In America you are expected to tip on everything and there is also an 8% tax paid on all purchases.
For example, at JFK they advertise the taxi price at $70 but it is actually $95 with the tax and tolls etc, plus a 20% tip on top of that.
The hotel room was ok. The bed was comfy and the room was a good size, but a little tatty due to wear and tear on the tables. Our view was terrible - we overlooked office building at the rear. The room was very quiet though and we did not hear the road or other guests.
We were ignored all through our stay by the door staff but often watched them interact with other guests, taking their bags and offering them taxis etc. They offer to arrange guests a SUV taxi to the airport for $125 but in reality you can book this on line for $65, which is what we did to get to the airport.
The staff at The Stinger Bar literally had no conversation at all. When you ordered a drink they nod, serve you the drink and that is it. Not a word. We found a great Irish bar around the corner which had a great atmosphere and was also cheaper.
Our flight was not until evening so we asked at reception about a late check out. We were told this would cost $150 so we thought better of it, but I am surprised to read the review of people who were given a late checkout.
In conclusion, this was not a 5 star hotel or experience. More a 3 star and we would not return to this hotel. We felt we were treated differently for being British as the service or interaction was no where near the kind given to American or Asian guests. When staying in a 5 star hotel you want to feel a bit special, and we actually felt like 2nd class citizens.

Just wrapped up my stay at InterContinental New York Times Square, and here's my take:

Location, Location, Location! Just steps from the Times Square-42nd St. metro station and a short walk to Broadway theatres, this hotel is a prime choice for those looking to explore NYC with ease. Also, being just two blocks from Port Authority Bus Terminal makes getting around even more convenient.

* Room Experience: My stay started in a standard room, which felt a bit dated but comfortable. However, as an IHG Platinum Elite Ambassador, I received a complimentary upgrade to a King Junior Suite with a skyline view-and wow, what a difference! Three walls of glass panels offered breathtaking views of Manhattan, making it a standout feature of the hotel.

Service & Housekeeping: Special shoutout to Samira, who made sure my room was well taken care of and provided friendly, attentive service.

The Stinger Cocktail Bar: Located on the first floor, this spot serves up a solid selection of cocktails, wines, and beers. I tried their signature "Stinger" cocktail-highly recommended! The draft beer was fresh and crisp, and despite a packed crowd, Eddie kept the drinks flowing with a smile.

Breakfast: A classic American breakfast with good quality sausages and bacon. But heads up-cappuccinos cost an extra $10, and I wasn't informed that specialty beverages weren't included in the buffet.

A Few Downsides:
• Limited amenities—no toothbrush or cotton buds provided.
• Only 2 bottles of complimentary water per day (which isn't much for a NYC hotel stay).
• Amenity fees & taxes apply even for IHG reward nights, which can be an unpleasant surprise.

Final Verdict:
If you want unbeatable convenience and skyline views, this hotel delivers. The IHG elite upgrade made my experience significantly better, and the friendly service was a highlight.
That said, a few unexpected charges and limited amenities slightly took away from the experience. Would I stay again? Yes-but with a heads-up on the extra costs.

Overall, it was a satisfying stay.

It is located one block from Times Square, so the location is perfect for sightseeing. Broadway theaters, Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park, and Grand Central Station are all within walking distance. If you can walk, you can also walk to Carnegie Hall and MOMA. It is a 5-minute walk from the bus stop from Newark Airport, so I took the bus both ways. The subway station is right next to the hotel. There is also a Shake Shack, food court, and supermarket within a 2-minute walk, so it was a really convenient location.

At night, you can hear the sound of car horns and sirens, but while looking at the night view from the 21st floor, I didn't mind it too much, thinking that this is also a NY-like thing.

It is not that luxurious if you go with the image of a Japanese InterContinental. It feels like a rich business hotel. It is supposed to be a newer hotel, but the facilities are old and it is difficult to adjust the temperature of the water, but the water pressure in the shower is sufficient. The linens are clean, the beds and pillows are fluffy, and I slept soundly at night. The air conditioning in the room can be adjusted properly. However, the bathroom and under the desk are quite dirty, so don't be disappointed.
I read in a previous review that you are charged if you move something in the fridge, but that wasn't the case. The coffee maker and capsule coffee are free, and they will bring you an electric kettle if you ask.
Tax and amenity fees total about $40 per night, so even if you pay in advance, you will be charged on site. When you check in, you are asked to show your credit card as a deposit and $50? (I can't remember...), but when you check out, you just return the key and check the receipt and it's done. The amenity fee includes $25 a day for the minibar, so it's a waste if you don't use it. There is a QR code on the back of the amenity fee notice given to you with your room key, and you can check the prices of each item in the minibar from there.
The front desk staff were very friendly, especially the doormen who were very cheerful and nice.

Can you raise a charge back with your card provider? I’m still waiting for mine but not been a month yet.

There is a "resort fee" (I'm not sure of the exact amount but I think it's $35/day). Offsetting that, you get (1) a $25/day dining/bar credit, but you can't use that at breakfast (2) a daily credit on laundry (which we weren't able to take advantage of because it was a super short stay for us).
