Detailed Reviews
We selected this hotel for two reasons. First it is near the venue that we had tickets for. Second, we like the Marriott AC hotels. This is a fairly new hotel located in the center of the Gaslamp district. It is modern and even though the rooms are spare they are nicely done. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had a nice walk in shower with a shower head and a sprayer. We chose a quiet room and thank goodness for that because the hotel is located on Fifth Street which is closed to car traffic at certain times and the night life on the weekend was wild. The hotel is adjacent to many restaurants. They only have valet which is pricey. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast for $19 and our friends said it was the best scrambled eggs they have ever had. The staff topped off our experience being so very nice and accommodating.

Beautiful new AC Hotel has arrived to San Diego. Valet parking, great breakfast, immaculate clean rooms and extraordinary costumer service. Silvia at the Kitchen prepared us the best Nespresso coffee in our life. Tori and Corin helped us to move our room away from the Gaslamp noise explaining us every room type and we had a great sleep. The concierge Luis recommended us Lavo restaurant and places were to go in La Jolla and Coronado, I am a platinum Elite member and have never experienced a service like this. Thank you, Marriott, for opening this new AC Hotel and selecting a team that really takes care of us.

This hotel was great! Our room was against a wall for another building and by the elevators we did not have the noise issue other people had. The rooms were clean and nice. The bar downstairs makes great cocktails. I will say if you're looking for a pool this is not the place for being in the pool. We didn't go in it but we saw it and the pool was filthy. The pool itself is very small so with the amount of people + sunscreen it was merky water. If you're not familiar with the Gaslamp district it is basically Las Vegas. So if you're not looking to be in a party environment you probably shouldn't stay in the gaslamp area in general. HINT: there is a parking structure about a 2 min walk away that is only $18. Save yourself $40 and park there.

The issue with noise is the real deal! Bars close around 3:00 am and it was loud until 4:00 am. White noise machines and earplugs in the room help, but didn't disguise the surrounding noise. The room appeared clean, but the balcony door was broken and off its hinges. There was a square toilet with a toilet seat that didn't fit it propoerly so use with caution!
The worst part of this hotel is the service. The front desk staff could not have been more rude and hostile. It's a late check in time of 4:00 pm but when we arrived at 11;00 am, we were told that we were on top of the list for an early room arrival. We didn't get our rooms until 4:30 pm, though we saw multiple people arrive after us and get rooms before us. Not once did the front desk personnel respond with compassion as we sat there from 2:30 - 4:30 waiting for a room while there was no food or beverage service open in the lobby. When asking about the late room availability, the response was hostile and when I escalated the issue by asking to speak to a manager, she said that there was no manager available all weekend so her answer was simply "no". For as much as this room costs, go elsewhere!!!

Great hotel in the middle of the Gaslamp District. Room (2 comfy Queens for 3 adults - 2 parents plus adult child) was spotless. We were there for Comic Con, such a convenient location. Our room 622 was in the back so there was no street noise. The pool area upstairs on the roof was small but inviting on the sunny afternoon we went. Staff was friendly: shoutout to Sylvia who was managing the European breakfast buffet ($19/pp I think). We will stay here again the next time we are in SD.
PS: Only con to this hotel is the barn door for the bathroom. I can’t stand that decor but that’s just me!

We decided to go to San Diego for one night and thought the Gaslamp district might be a good location in order to be able to walk to dinner. The AC is a perfect place. It is brand new and lovely. We asked for a quiet room because the front faces onto a busy street on the weekends. They close off the street to cars but there are a lot of people walking around in the evening. Our room was very comfortable and the decor is minimal which is what we like. The bathroom has a lovely shower and great lighting. The staff was welcoming and friendly as well.

New hotel, nice lobby, right in the middle of Gaslamp area, so lots of restaurant and bar choices within easy walking distance. Probably a good place to stay if your vacation centers on this experience. But…I was here on a business trip. First, front desk and valet prompt, nice, and helpful. However, I had to sign a room damage waiver when I checked in promising I wouldn’t party in or trash my room. I stay around 100 nights a year at many different Marriott properties, this is a first. Titanium lifetime member and I sign a damage waiver? Compelled me to take a video of my room on checkout to ensure I had evidence all I did was sleep here. WiFi didn’t initially work, so spent 15 minutes on the phone with IT support (“We’re new, working out kinks”). Had exactly 4 hangers in the “closet.” Assessment: if you’re coming for a short vacay focused on bars, cuisine, and party options (except your room of course), good option. If you’re coming for business…not.

Stayed in this hotel for a business trip, right in the heart of the Gaslamp District in San Diego. Had a very impressive large, modern, comfortable room and large bathroom and shower. Very modern. Couldn't fault it. They even supplied rooms with a white noise machine and ear plugs (should you need these at the weekends!). Nice buffet breakfast. Hotel in a very central location. Nice staff.

The hotel is very new, perhaps only a couple of weeks since it opened. That said, there are still some kinks they are working to address. The main one for us was the air conditioner.
The rooms were surprisingly very quiet given that it was St Pattys weekend. The hotel is located in the heart of all the bars and St Patrick's day festivities. It may have been loud outside, but you couldn't hear any of it from our room.
What made our stay so great was the staff. Every single person working there, from the front desk staff to operations, to housekeeping to security were very kind and helpful. For example, Tory, the director of operations, brought her own personal fan from home to offer to us.
I would definitely stay there again because of the staff alone.

As someone that enjoys the comfort of a good hotel bar. This place has all the amenities you could ask for. An awesome liquor selection, comfortable chairs, multiple outlets, a giant tv. And courteous, helpful and friendly staff. Morganne is such a great presence behind the bar and makes some of the best whiskey sours out there. This is fast becoming one of the best places for people to stay at when visiting San Diego
