This charming BnB was a like a dream come true.
The general manager was courteous, straight to the point in answering my questions and concerns.
His tip on FREE street parking really put my stressed out traveling mind at ease.
The BnB exceeded our expectations.
Huge room, marble bathroom, picture window one could sit in, tapestry and so much history.
We will stay here every time! Thanks Donald for all your help.

I had the double bed guest room with private bath. The hotel is very elegant and Victorian. Bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom was clean. The GM was very accommodating when asked if I could stay an extra hour. She gave me tips on places nearby to visit such as Trinity Church and Boston Public Garden. They include a continental breakfast which was nice with a variety of juices, coffee, fruits, and pastries. They had wifi which was great because the rooms have no TV and there may be a reason for that but with wifi I was able to watch on Hulu my favorite shows. This is the main reason why they didn’t get a full 5 stars but nevertheless, this is a great bargain to start if you want something elegant, Bostonian, and in the heart of Boston without all the noise.

My wife and I stayed at the College Club for four nights in October 2023. It's an interesting old building. We had one of the rooms with the ensuite bathrooms. The room was large and quite clean, but the bathroom was a bit worn in a few places. The room had two full beds, not a queen or a king.

Our room opened onto an alley in the back, and unfortunately it seemed that most days garbage trucks worked their way down this alley starting very early in the morning, like 5:30 AM, and made a lot of racket. The room has a white noise machine that we used, which was helpful, but not much could cover that noise up. I'm not aware of how rooms on the front of the building towards Commonwealth Avenue might be for sound.

Breakfasts are continental and adequate - yogurt, croissants, hard boiled eggs, juice - nice enough, but if you want a hot served breakfast, this is probably not the place for you.

Still, for us, these were minor issues, and the historic nature of the building and the room, along with the excellent location, made our stay enjoyable. You are only a short walk away from the Public Garden, the Common, Beacon Hill, and the Freedom Trail. We would stay again if in Boston.

The location of the "Club" could not be better, but the condition of the facility leaves a lot to be desired. The air conditioner in our room showed signs of mold, and the room generally needed a good refreshing. Our advertised "King" bed consisted of two single beds pushed together. There was no TV. The breakfast was a box of preordered items, which seemed overly minimal even in Covid times. To us, the facility did not meet the standard one expects from a traditional college or university club, which is a shame given its great location.

The old brownstone is lovely and situated right near the public gardens. I booked a lower-priced queen room with a shared bathroom. I never saw anyone else using the bathroom which was conveniently located just down the hallway. If you're after a pristine room, this isn't the place for you. Lampshades are a bit stained, carpeting is worn and little things like the towel rack and hot/cold water handle in the shower were loose or broken. I didn't get the sense that the proprietor really cares much about details. For instance the wardrobe in my room had a motley assortment of plastic hangars that felt more goodwill than a nice BandB. Similarly the bookcase had dozens of books that were old, dusty and rather than being nice additions, just felt like they were dumped there. Oddly, the book on top of one stack was on masturbation. Also there various items: a side table, a lectern and other various pieces of furniture stored awkwardly at the top of the stairway in the hall.

I had a room that looked out on Commenwealth Avenue. Although there was a newer double-pane window, it had an in-window a/c unit which meant there was lots of street noise. Fortunately I'm a heavy sleeper and this didn't bother me, but if it concerns you make sure you get a room away from the traffic. Also the floors creak loudly and I could hear the conversation in the adjacent room rather clearly so if you're after acoustical privacy, be forewarned.

The continental breakfast was lovely. I appreciated having Greek yogurt, fresh fruit and croissants. The woman in charge of the breakfast room was very professional and kind.

I felt like the owners could take as little as $2000 and make minor repairs/improvements that would spruce the place up. As I said in my review title, it was still a good value given the location and the place has its charm. I was just there for one night and it served my purposes well.

Dear 303bk, Thank you for your very detailed review which is helpful to other travelers, and also very helpful to me, the new General Manager. You're right - we are in a fabulous location, with a unique historic experience, a quality continental breakfast, and I do share your opinion that the details have been left "in the dust", if you will. But I assure you that they are being addressed as quickly as possible. Hangers are now replaced with nice wooden ones, the book (!?!) which must have been left by someone has been removed, odds & ends furniture has been trashed, and a focus on maintenance and repairs is underway. Please let me know the next time you're in Boston and plan to stay with us!

Our room was large and very clean, comfortable bed. The bathroom was very nicely updated. It is a 2 minute walk to the Boston Public Garden and several local eatery’s and stores. The Inn Keeper, Donald, was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was grab and go because we visited during COVID. We would stay again!

This was so much better than I could have ever imagined! Our room was HUGE, breakfast was plentiful, the neighborhood was amazing. Everything was very clean, and very quiet. Breakfast was ordered the night before due to Covid. We had oatmeal each day, hard-boiled eggs, fruit and yogurt. It wasn't gourmet, but it was good and filling. There was a machine available for coffee, tea, and hot chocolate 24-7. We were also given free water bottles when we asked each morning. Also available are cookies each afternoon if you want a snack. The room was lovely, with antique furniture and plenty of seating. No, there was no TV in the room, but we really didn't miss that at all. The only other negative is that the elevator was very slow. However, the room was brilliant, and I loved how close it was to the T, to Newbury St, and to the Public Garden. I will definitely stay here again!

I was thrilled to be right next to Copley Square. Easy to get to from Amtrak and the commuter rail. The common spaces are beautiful, and it's actually a little funny how unstylish my room was. It doesn't really matter, it just wasn't what I was expecting given the rest of the photos. The shared bathroom was definitely the nicest shared bathroom I've ever seen, and I happened to have it to myself, anyway. It's a little annoying at first that you have to remember the door code, and you do have to carry a pretty big room key. I also didn't realize there would just be a space heater, but it worked fine. The price was very fair. Despite the quirks I've mentioned, it was overall a very charming place and none of them really slowed me down too much, except when my phone died and I couldn't remember the door code. It was very charming, and I would still prefer to stay here than a standard chain hotel.

I have stayed at The College Club of Boston several times, and absolutely love it. The location, old-Boston charm, and beautifully appointed interior is incredible. It is a very old building, but that fact is embraced rather than masked, as it should be. With the lack of parking, no television in the rooms, and shared bathrooms in some areas it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but that is a matter of individual preference. It suits me perfectly and I actually plan my trips to Boston around the availability of a room at this wonderful old home. I would live there if I could.

This is a terrific place to stay right in Back Bay. It is a brownstone on Commonwealth Ave that has all the old charm of Boston and is walking distance from just about everything. It used to be a women's club and they have the photo wall of fame to prove it. It is decorated in all vintage and antique decor in the common areas and the rooms. If you're looking for modern with all modern facilities, stay at the Marriott. There is no TV in the room that is spacious and comfortable. Think colonial B&B. The price makes it an absolute value. Coming back the next time I'm in town.

are there 2 beds in any of the rooms and is there coffee in the room
Boston, Massachusetts
Hi Mitch, All double occupancy rooms are outfitted with two single beds. When a king bed is requested, the singles are put together with a king mattress pad and king bedding. Very comfortable. As mentioned by guests, though no coffee en suite, you are welcome to our self-serve barista in the breakfast room on the lobby (not basement) level at all hours.

Answer from vetsmith
usa19 contributions6 helpful votes
Arlington T stop is a few blocks from College Club and the area is clean and safe. In fact, we found Boston an easy city to walk and averaged over 10 miles a day, so bring you most comfortable shoes! We also used Uber for travel at night and to the airport. Have a wonderful trip.
Boston, Massachusetts
Hi Nicole, Thanks for your interest in The College Club of Boston. We recommend the garage under the Boston Common which is two blocks away. If you Google Boston Common Garage you can find informatiion on their rates, etc. Once you arrive, you really will not need the car until you are ready to depart Boston again. The city itself is very walkable and there is easy access to surrounding cities and town via the public transportation system just a short walk from our door.

Is this hotel/B&B air conditioned?
Answer from Kitty S
Las Vegas, Nevada12 contributions9 helpful votes
They have room air conditioners in the summer. They take them out of the windows for the winter. I stayed there during a couple hot fall days the week after the air conditioners had been removed for the winter, but fans and cross ventilation helped. It was a couple of sticky nights though. Lovely place to stay and I would recommend it to any looking for a nice B&B.
