This hotel was right in the center of Newbury and just beautiful! The staff were all so friendly! We would absolutely stay here again if we ever come back to Boston, as well as suggest this hotel to our family & friends!
We enjoyed our stay at Newbury Guest House so much! The rooms were spacious and the bed was comfy. The staff was accommodating and pleasant and welcoming. The neighborhood is energetic and appealing for walking to nearby restaurants, the T-line, and enjoying the crisp fall air. We stayed for 8 nights and would go back in a heartbeat.
The moment we walked in I was taken back to Europe. The architecture, interior design and overall ambiance was just amazing. We were greeted by Mark who warmly checked us into the hotel. We spent a few evenings in the lobby window seat enjoying a glass of wine after a long day of sightseeing, the playlists of the ambient music were spot on, and the coffee was good! I recommend making reservations at the restaurant Bar A Vin early, we didn’t get a chance to enjoy! I can’t wait to come back!
This is a lovely hotel in a great location. But what really made it a great stay was the kind and generous staff, particularly Alex. The room was lovely and very clean and the bed comfy. The only tiny thing is that there was only one available outlet in the room which made charging multiple devices a little tricky. Overall, fantastic! Would definitely stay again.
Our room, the view, the bed, the bathroom and the location cannot be beat! The staff was so so friendly and professional. They worked so hard to make sure we were comfortable. Parking was easy… right behind the building. The restaurants and shopping are all top notch! Can’t wait to come back!
If you are looking for a lovely, historic inn in Boston, this is just the place. It is the quintessential boutique hotel that we were looking for. I might have given the inn 5 stars, however, there was a room mix-up at the beginning of our stay that wasn't resolved until the night before we left. I'll explain below. Starting with the inn, everything about it is cozy and warm. The lobby is small and inviting with the feel of a private living room. The front desk has someone there 24/7 and access is only through the front door after 11:00 PM. Parking is behind the hotel in one of the numerous alleys you find all through Boston. Be sure to reserve a spot because parking in Boston is difficult. (We took Uber almost everywhere.) Our room was one with a king bed and seating area on the second floor overlooking Newbury St. It was a beautiful view. The room was a good size, especially for an older inn but that had a lot to do with the sitting area by the window. The bathroom was large with a contemporary look and sparkling clean. It's important to note that we were on our honeymoon or as my husband called it: a "mini-moon". We were married on Jan. 28th and plan to take a longer trip during warmer weather but wanted to go away for at least a few days. Boston was our choice! Also, note that we are an older couple. We had each been married years before, (to other people) and had already raised our children and have grandchildren too. We have experience traveling. The afternoon that we arrived we were brought to our room and quickly noticed that it was not the type of room we had reserved. The young woman at the desk was very apologetic and said that the room we wanted wasn't available. She then gave us the room we eventually stayed in with the king bed. She said there would be no upcharge. But later we were told there would be an extra fee. I agreed because I didn't want to argue the point. But just before we left to go out we were told we'd have to change rooms the next day. I admit I was upset but tried to keep that in check. We were shown rooms that were available for the rest of our stay and they were definitely not what we wanted. The young woman (Diana) was on the phone with the manager who would not relent and let us stay where we were. Diana was in tears and I was almost there. My husband negotiated a solution that we would only have to change rooms for our last night at the inn. No voices were raised and no one was angry. But it was tense and frustrating especially because it seemed as if the manager was giving poor Diana a very hard time. Meanwhile, as we came and went during our stay, everyone at the front desk was extremely nice and helpful. In the end, we never had to change rooms. The night before we were supposed to switch rooms we were told that we would be able to remain in the room where we had been all along. We were grateful. However, the entire time we were there we weren't sure if we were supposed to pack up and leave and then check in later or just change rooms. We had timed tickets for the morning for a museum and didn't know how to adjust our stay. It was a bit of a dark cloud. That is why this is a 4-star review instead of 5 stars. I would like to note that during the time that we checked out, Maribel at the front desk was very kind and loved our story of finding love later in life. Tenphel (I think he is also a manager) told us that he felt terrible that we had problems resolving the room issues and waived the upcharge fees. In the end, it all worked out. I was hesitant to write a review because of the room issue. However, I wouldn't want another person to experience what we did. I would also say that if you are planning to stay at the Newbury Guest House (and really, you should) reserve a room with a bay window overlooking the street. It's worth it. Oh, and there is a great little coffee shop next door. The coffee is really good!…
Great hotel. Small. 35 rooms. Super convenient location with access to everything. Parking in back alley. Wonderful beds and bedding. Small rooms and bathroom but overall a great homey spot. Nice living room type lobby to sit and watch Newbury street activity. Great staff. Diana and tenphet were wonderful. We had a couple issues with door not working upon leaving but they are in process of upgrading all doors and locks to phone access. Also some minor cosmetic outlets needing repair in the room but I would most definitely stay here again!!!!
I hesitate to write this review because I don't really want the word to get out. This is a special place. Right on Newbury Street, the cozy lobby is made for people watching. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The staff, warm, friendly and helpful. I will certainly be back!
Our stay in the Newbury Guest House was wonderful. The Hotel is nice, clean, and very well located. It has a very nice lobby to drink Coffee, play chess orbjust take a rest watching the Newbury Street.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here for the 2023 Winter Classic. This historic boutique hotel has the charm that large chain hotels just cannot match. This hotel has it all--you can walk to wherever you need to go, it's quiet, and the staff is awesome, especially Mike.
