The Emblem shares its love of bohemian SF with modern conveniences. Walking distance from Chinatown and north beach makes it a great home base. The staff are lovely and go out of their way to t your stay the best!

Hotel's Favourite
Located just north of Union Square, we found the Emblem to be perfectly located. We were able to pull up front and unload our suitcases in the morning - then take our car to the Car Rental return on O'Farrell, only a 10 minute walk back to the hotel. Perfect. When we left we were able to wheel our suitcases downhill on Powell St to the BART station for a quick train ride to the airport for $10. Again, Emblem is in a perfect location for travelers. There are so many restaurant choices nearby. Breakfast choices include the coffee shop in the lobby, but also some cute retro 50's diners just 2 minutes away. For dinners there are so many restaurants within a 5 to 10 minute walk. Again, Emblem is in a perfect location. For tourists, Union Square is a 3 minute walk. Also, the Powell Street cable car is available 3 minutes away on Powell Street. Use this cable car to take you all the way to the Fisherman's Wharf area. On another occasion, we walked (downhill or flat) all the way to the Ferry Terminal and Ferry to Alcatraz. You see, Emblem is in a perfect location. Another reason for 5 stars - the staff! All front desk staff are so friendly and helpful. Special note to Gitanjali who has the ability to smile with her eyes - she is wonderful. In the bar, we enjoyed happy hours before heading out to local restaurants. Both bartenders Kristen and Lourdis were exceptional allowing samples of various wines before choosing, providing travel tips and just being so nice! The rooms are a bit smaller than a chain hotel - this is a boutique after all. The hotel was built in 1907 or something like that, so you get the nuances of the little elevator, tiny stair case etc. Our room was equipped with a king size bed, a large shower and a huge TV. The room was smallish but when in San Francisco there is so much to do that not much time was spent in the room. We found this hotel to be very reasonably priced for the Union Square district in San Francisco. Upon check in we opted for one of the quieter rooms not fronting the street but still could hear the occasional siren or loud exhaust. Nothing unexpected for being in the heart of the action in the Union Square area. For our first visit to San Francisco we felt the Hotel Emblem to be the perfect choice based on location, price and friendliness. For our next visit to San Francisco we would assuredly select the Emblem again!

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Emblem! Orion was very friendly during check-in and answered any/all questions that we had. My grandson was amazed that they shared the same name! We only stayed two nights, as it was a quick visit to the West Coat for us to see Muir Woods. The room was clean and tidy. Our room was serviced by housekeeping and it was appreciated as it was unexpected since we were only staying two nights. I'm used to NOT getting the room serviced at other hotels for short stays. I can see why this hotel is #1 and I would stay here again if ever visiting San Francisco.

The hotel is tired, there is a bar but no restaurant that we were made aware of A woke cafe next door Which you had to line up to place your order for the limited offering Might be all good for an overnight stay with your girlfriend -I think she would dump you afterwards Certainly not able to accommodate a serious traveller

We loved this hotel. It was a small quaint well positioned property. The staff was phoenomeal, friendly and helpful. They had great ideas and were able to help us navigate to trolley system. Our room was huge, a pleasant surprise for a city hotel. The room was cozy and inviting. We will definitely stay again if ever back in SF.

I had an amazing stay at the Emblem in early January. The rooms are beautiful, clean, and cozy. The hotel's design theme was really cool. The staff at the front desk and the bar were super nice and welcoming. I would stay here again next time I'm in San Francisco.

The Emblem is one of the best hotel stays we’ve had. Their “unorthodox amenities” are what made the experience superior. Need an extra suitcase stand, or a fridge if you’re staying a while for those Trader Joes runs or leftovers? Maybe some white noise, or a star projector to fall asleep to? The ability to just grab an umbrella on the way out if it’s raining? They have all these things and more upon request, and always happy to provide them. Incredibly friendly and accommodating staff, and a great cafe across the lobby for coffee, and such a cozy bar/seating area. While they don’t serve food - the seating area is always available, if you bring in your own food or wake up and grab coffee at the cafe and want to have a seat - just a great place to relax between travels. The room was clean and cozy, very inviting after a long day of venturing around the city. The other great thing about this hotel is that it’s in such a great location, easy to walk anywhere, or take a trolley or an Uber to. We would highly recommend this place to anyone new visiting the city. We enjoyed it so much, if we find our way back to San Francisco, we would stay again.

This is a quirky hotel as others have described very central to everything you would need to access as a tourist in San Fran. The rooms are quiet and a good size. The whole place (in line with the beatnik vibe) smells like patchouli - not my fave smell. Beds are only doubles and not that comfortable. Bluestone cafe in foyer is the BEST thing about the hotel and I was almost crying with joy at finding good Australia coffee and well priced breakfast - they were very good with my lactose intolerant crew too. TBH San Fran was a let down. We loved it 18 years ago but now is kind of all feels unsafe and dirty. We went to the highly recommended Cityscapes at the Hilton for the views (which are amazing) but the leather was wearing foo the chairs and it all looked sad and tired - how the whole city kind of felt.

We chose Hotel Emblem for its proximity to Union Square and Chinatown, but also because it's a cute and quirky hotel with a big personality. From the moment you enter into the quaint lobby - you feel cool just by being there. There's a pile of books from floor to ceiling with a space to stand inisde for cool photo ops, and a digital typewriter taps along over the reception desk to keep up with the cool writer's vibe. Every floor has a sustainable water station for your bottle - and a jug of fortune cookies! We had an amazing room on the top floor with a king sized bed and sizeable bathroom. The pillows were incredibly comfortable - and I was really happy the bed was so comfy since I need to rest in a little after an evening of New Years Eve partying. They let me extend my check out time which I was really grateful for!

We had a great time at Hotel Emblem! Perfect location to seen Union Square and Nob Hill and close to public transportation to get to Fisherman’s Warf and the Ferry Building. It was also a close walk to Chinatown and a little longer walk to North Beach. The staff was always friendly and helpful and the rooms were a good size for a family of three. We would definitely stay there again.
