My sister and I had an amazing stay at Howzit! We loved the staff, daily excursions and cleanliness of the hostel. It is genuinely the best place to stay in Maui, close to everything - Safeway, mall, restaurants and airport!

Incredible vibes in this hostel. Zack, Steven, daisy, and all the other staff were super nice and amenities are top notch. Free pancakes, coffee, showers, towels , activities during the week. Cliff jumping , sea turtle diving. Trivia was fun. - J DOG

Great location and staff very pleasant. Yummy hot chocolate pancakes served for breakfast each morning. Well equipped kitchen and they do organised activities for people staying at the hostel. A great place for people looking to socialise and meet people, however if you're looking for a quiet place to rest with a luxury of having your own bathroom rather than waiting in the queue, you should look elsewhere.

Best hostel I’ve ever stayed at!!! The free chocolate chip pancakes, the free excursions, the organized chat to communicate with other guests, the events at the house… This place has it all covered. And it is CLEAN!! The bathrooms were never a hot mess (and I’m anal about that). If staying in Maui, I highly recommend it. Plus Wailulu Coffee!! So delicious.

We had one night in Maui and booked a private room here. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked great. It was a little noisy at times, but the AC was great for white noise! We had our own mini fridge which was handy. Staff were all very helpful and polite. We grabbed ride share to and from the airport and it cost about $20.00 each way with tip. The rooms and bedding were clean, but the rest of the hostile was very dirty. Grimy is how we would describe it. It looked like doors or door handles hadn’t been cleaned ever. The women’s washroom definitely needed a clean throughout the morning as it was very busy. All it would take would be a couple hours of deep cleaning and this place would be way better. The Friday $10 BBQ for a burger, chips and beer was a good, but again, it was outside and looked like the picnic tables had never been wiped off. (Need bug spray) Chocolate chip pancakes in the morning was a a nice touch. We didn’t get a chance to take advantage of any of them, but the daily free tours appeared to be a great bonus at this hostel. If we were able to, it would have made the $200 we spent for the night a little more tolerable. A different tour every day! You have to sign up 24 hours before. Sounds like they fill up really fast. We arrived on a Sunday and not many of the quaint local shops were open. Monday was a different story and we were able to head out for a coffee and some local exploring. The location wouldn’t be great for many people. It is a LONG walk to the beach and there is no public transit. Lots of homeless people around. We didn’t mind as we like exploring and checking out the “non tourist” areas. We are a middle aged well travelled couple so maybe a little more “judgy” but after staying in some other hostels we just expected mediocre when it came to clean, which it wasn’t. We would not stay here again.

Aloha, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We appreciate the feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your room and that the staff was nice and helpful! We are sorry that the hostel was not up to your standards of cleanliness, we do have a housekeeping team that cleans for 7+ hours, daily. With weekly deep cleans and a rotation of focused tasks, we do our best to ensure a clean and sanitized environment for our guests, both inside and outside of the hostel. Wailuku is centrally located on the island and when coming to Maui, it is best to have a car. But with our FREE daily tours, we make sure that you still experience some of the most fun and beautiful places on the island! Wailuku itself is kind of a hidden gem! There are tons of local places to eat and fun boutique shops in the area. Oftentimes, because it is more of a local community, you don't have the long lines or wait times for restaurants! Again, we do appreciate the feedback, we will review some of our current deep cleaning schedules and do our best to grow from the review you left us. We hope that your trip out to Maui was an unforgettable experience! Mahalo, Zac General Manager Howzit Hostels

Stayed here with a friend. Thought it would be closer to beaches but turned out it was a drive to most beaches. The area the hostel in was ok…wouldn’t recommend walking around by yourself at night. First 2 nights we stayed in a four person room….beds were uncomfortable, the room was small, and it didn’t feel clean. Also, there are no lockers, rather a luggage storage room, so we didn’t really like that. We were transferred to a newer room which was an 8 person mixed dorm and the beds were comfier, the rooms cleaner and there was more room. Pancakes in the morning were amazing and while I didn’t get to do the activities that the hostel planned, they seemed fun. Not sure I would stay here again only because I’d like to be closer to beaches and things to do but if you need a place to stay in Maui and aren’t picky, the hostel will work.

Aloha! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! Our hostel is very centrally located on the island, we are a 10-30 minute car ride to almost any beach! As for our rooms, yes our rooms do range in size. We have 4-bed dorm rooms and 8-bed dorm rooms. In addition to all of our mattresses being brand new, we do have a housekeeping team that works for 7+ hours a day and cleans all of the common areas, bathrooms, and rooms! We are sorry of you felt anything was not up to standards, we are always willing to fix or address anything that is brought to our attention. We hope that you give us another chance in the future as we are making some pretty amazing improvements that I don't think you will want to miss out on! Again, we appreciate the review, this allows us to tighten up on some procedures and ultimately get better and better every day! Mahalo, Zac General Manager Howzit Hostels

I had a really good time at Howzit. I stayed from January 8th to 13th 2023 and I feel like I could’ve stayed longer. The staff people were super friendly and the people I met at the hostel were so approachable too, such a nice vibe. The common area is perfect to spend the evening getting to know your roommates. The activities proposed exceeded my expectations, and it’s always possible to follow with a rental car if you didn’t make it into the van. Such a fun stay, thanks for everything xxx

We arrived late after a 7 hour flight, we couldn’t find a place to park. We called and were told they only have 5 secure parking spots and to park on the street. The only spot I found was beside a homeless encampment and a girl was going to take a dump behind the bush near our car. I parked two blocks away in a public parking lot. The entrance is not on the street but between two buildings. We rang twice with no answer, called again and were let in to climb 22 stairs to reception (no good for disabled or heavy luggage). After checking our ID 3 times it was discovered they checked someone else into our room. The hostel was full, they offered us a twin bunk bed room in the basement with no access to a bathroom other then in the other main entrance up the stairs. They evicted the people from our room and it took over an hour to get them out and get the sheets changed. It was after 1am (4am our time) to get into our room. They only give you a thin sheet to sleep and I was very cold. We were awoken at 6am by noise in the common area so we got up and left. True, we’ve been given a refund but I later found out I could have called Expedia and they would have helped us relocate. If you don’t have a car, have no disabilities, like waiting for a bathroom, and are ok getting any kind of sleeping accommodations I’m sure you would love this place.

Aloha Michila, Your experience at our hostel is not a common occurrence. I explained in the last review you left us that it was nothing more than human error and we did everything in our power to correct the mistake. You were refunded for the inconvenience you experienced, we profusely apologized for the mix up, and everyone ended up in the correct rooms. Since we have rebranded to Howzit Hostels we have come a long way in improving the guest experience and we are very proud of what we have done to improve the hostel and the amenities we offer our guests. Not only have we made countless upgrades to the living spaces, but we offer free breakfast everyday, we also offer 8+ tours FREE of charge! Including Road to Hana tours, Snorkeling, Beach days, Hikes through the jungle, etc.. In addition to that our hostel harbors an environment that allows for our guests to grow and experience other cultures, we put a lot of focus into the guest experience and we see everyday how much this impacts our guests in a positive way. I genuinely wish that you could have experienced how amazing it can be to stay here at Howzit Hostels for more than one night. Again, I do sincerely hope that the remainder of your trip out to Maui was a great experience for you. Mahalo, Zac General Manager Howzit Hostels
