We came from totally quiet and calm big island marriott, we expect the same quality of room and beautiful serene and calmness here in Maui Ocean Club.. but totally shock at how noisy our room is.. instead of birds chirpping and ocean wave, we get noisy trucks up and down the road in the morning, service truck running maschine pump noise, tennis court ball hitting noise and aircon as noisy as in the airplane.. the terrace door is not sound proof.. we never once seat at our balcony to enjoy the view as we also can see carpark and the noise is causing me getting headache.. The furnishing in need of upgrade, as sofa is so uncomfortable that cause me backache, we slip down after sitting for a while.. the furniture looks very cheap and flimsy.. Housekeeping are great and staff are friendly.. but this noise is totally unbearable.. we have another 2 weeks to go.. but given the hotel is fully book.. we feel really stuck here. :-(…
We own an annual Ocean view timeshare at MOC. This year was another great year. Snorkeling was awesome. Our room assignment was one of the best ever. 5th floor but very close to the ocean (almost an oceanfront). Whales are literally all over the water. We particularly see many in the morning and near dusk. The MOC is perfectly located. High floors in the winter are best to see the whales. Snorkeling is best if you swim straight out from the beach activity hut and once past the breaking waves, swim directly in front of the Marriott. Look for turtles in the sandy areas. We also found a monk seal directly out from the “beached white boat” in front of the Marriott. We have a 2 bedroom. It has 3 bathrooms (which is great for the 4 of us). As mentioned before, there is no full kitchen and no in-room washer/dryer. However, there is a free laundry room with multiple washers and dryers. We are already booked for next year.…
Surprised reviews take it to #13 when it’s position on the Kaanapali beach is so great, has longhis restaurant, cafe, Starbucks, 3 pools etc. we stayed as marriott members in both old and new towers and loved both. I actually like the old 2 bedroom s as they have 3 bathrooms which is great when it’s a “full house”. Great BBQs for outdoor cooking was a family favorite.
I have traveled all over the world. This a fantastic property with wonderful amenities, an excellent staff and a beautiful, well maintained property with every thing you need at the property or close by.
Like others we were worried about the negative reviews. We are Marriott Vacation Club owners so had high expectations. These were realized. The room - Molokai Tower - was well appointed and clean. As others have pointed out these units were hotel room make overs so the kitchen was small. There is however a full size frig and we were able to do all the cooking we wanted with the BBQ and microwave. There is a great little take out place on site for breakfasts, salads, dinners, etc and we made use of this. The beach was certainly there during our visit. It does fluctuate during the year and is smaller in the summer. However there are plenty of lounge seats on the lawn under the palms where you can sit and gaze out at the ocean - what’s not to like! The boat is still on the beach - apparently there is an insurance disagreement about whose responsibility it is to remove it. But look at the occasional sea turtle which comes up on the sand to sun instead! They were fixing the walk along the beach while we were there. We did not find it onerous to walk a few hundred feet on the ocean in the portion that was closed. We found the time share sales people to be professional and not high pressure. Certainly it is a very complex system and you need to be aware and savvy to get the most of your membership. Hawaii is very expensive and a time share here can be great value - but you need to know when to book and be aware that ocean view is not ocean front. You may only get a small view of the ocean with an ocean view. We found the staff friendly and efficient and the housekeeping did a thorough job mid-week. There were lots of activities and we took advantage of the intro to pickle ball, feeding the koi and the complementary shave ice at the pool. All in all we enjoyed our stay and will return.…
I am one of those folk who read the horrible reviews first. Whatever. In doing so, I got really nervous about this resort. Im writing this after 6 nights. We are having an AMAZING time here. We arrived, not knowing what to expect. It was a fairly spur of the moment trip. Bar was set pretty low. Our room was an ocean view, one bedroom. We got it at a discount through a third party site. We have been coming to Kaanapali for 30 years with our kids, and have stayed primarily at the Westin, tho we have stayed at pretty much every resort here. We absolutely loved our room. It overlooks the pool and the ocean. We have 2 balconies. The room is clean, with new carpet. The bed is very comfortable, with a great comforter. There is a pullout couch in the main room, and two bathrooms. The kitchen has a sink, microwave. refrigerator and dishwasher, but no stove or oven. There is a community kitchen on the first floor, we did not take advantage of it. The pool is incredible. There are now alot of chairs, but they really do monitor if you are gone more than an hour. If so, they remove your stuff. The beach situation: In front of the hotel, there is a beach, though narrow. There is a washed up yacht on it's side. Hope somebody does something with it. You can access the beach if you go towards the Alllii. People are sitting on the sand with small chairs. Even before the swell, the beach here wasnt great as there are alot of rocks in the shallow water. Your best bet is to access the beach and walk along the beach to the front of the Westin, where the water is best. That is where everyone swims. The beach walk itself is broken up, because the actual concrete in front of the Allii fell into the water. They wont allow anyone to walk on Allii property towards the rest of the beach walk. Your options are either to walk towards the street and around the Allii that way, or to go on the beach, for 197 steps til you get to the edge of the Westin, where you can re access the beach walk. At night there is good lighting on the beach, so you wont step into a hole. We really like this place. Staff are kind. There are a lot of littles running around, but no more so than other resorts here in Kaanapali. I actually thought of posting this with one star, so that folks like me who only read the bad reviews would see this, and be encouraged. Seriously, we really like this place and would return in a heartbeat. …
After spending thousands of dollars buying into MVC they have no interest in giving you anything to sell it back to them there response is they’ll take it off your hands and good luck booking your week it’s next to impossible
We just returned from a blissful week at Marriott Ocean Club. We are Worldmark owners and traded thru Interval. My husband is a Marriott Titanium Elite member due to his work travel, but as we all know, status is not typically recognized thru MVC, and I expected that. He was not present at checkin (arriving later on) and I checked in, no problems. I live in Wa state and my childhood BFF from RI flies out to see me for a week in Wa and then we go to Hawaii for a week. In the past, I've always traded into Ko Olina (also thru II) and have never had a problem getting that resort in the 60 day frame. This year I was concerned at the way travel had exploded, and although we've always enjoyed Ko Olina, we threw MOC in there to improve our chances on a last minute trade. I started a search at the 60 day mark for a 2 bedroom and was matched within a couple days. I did check the no kitchen facilities necessary, and that... along with the time of year may have helped me to get that trade so quickly. We arrived around 6pm, and after reading many reviews, I had resigned myself to not get a great view as we were trading thru II. While we really enjoy the view and spend most of our time at the resort, I made the decision to not let it ruin my trip. Just before leaving I read about the Beachwalk being washed away and I was pretty bummed about that. In essence, I was wondering if I'd made a mistake trading into Maui, rather than Oahu. We were checked in by (I want to say Lisa, but I could be wrong), and it was great. She thanked us for being Titanium elite and said we had an ocean view room in the Maui tower (3034/35). I was notably surprised and excited, and said I hadn't really expected that and had decided to be happy with whatever we were given. It was at that moment, a gentleman (Marriott staff) popped his head around the corner, and said he'd been overhearing... he loved my attitude and just wanted to say that! We all had a good laugh and it was a fun, upbeat way to start off the vacation. Off we went to our rooms. 3rd floor, ocean and pool view. Lovely. We were very excited. The rooms were spacious and we didn't miss the stove top at all. We had a toaster for breakfast, and a microwave to heat up leftovers from restaurants. 3 bathrooms, the higher end Malle bath products. Zero complaints. Loved the room and location. Parts of the Beachwalk were washed out, but there is still beach. We went down 50 or 100 feet and enjoyed the beach. We rented sand chairs for $25 for the week and thought that was a great deal. We ate at the pool bar (good) and Longhis (overpriced for below average food), and a few places on the Beachwalk (all good). We drove to Lahina and snooped around the beaches on the west and south. Mostly, we hung at the resort, enjoying the pool and our great view :) The staff here were professional, friendly and kind. Everyone we came in contact with from maintenance people to bar tenders to housekeepers..... very personable, outgoing and helpful. This stood out to us. We've never had bad service at Ko Olina, but the bar was set here. We also had a mid-week refresh which was unexpected and appreciated. Thank you, for providing us with a beautiful facility, with a wonderful staff. We had a glorious week! Jennifer & Philip Maillet…
There are pros and cons to this club. But there are a few really important things you need to know, and ESPECIALLY if you aren’t an owner but book here thru Marriott, because you won’t be notified on their website or in advance of getting here. (1) If you are a beach person, this is NOT the resort for you. Namely because, the beach access situation is extremely volatile, coming and going with little notice. As of our stay October 2022 there had been a big storm in July 2022, and the only beach access was down by the northernmost Napilli tower. The other areas of the restorer have no beach access, and the central tower has construction barricades lining the ocean view. There is also a capsized boat on the shore, that has yet to have been removed since the July storm. Furthermore, the Napilli beach, while decently sized at the time of our visit, can be underwater at any given time. Apparently this is a characteristic of Ka’anapali, as the name means “changing sands”, and they have major beach erosion issues not yet dealt with by the state of Hawaii. But the hotel photos definitely show plenty of walking beach, and that is definitely not always the case, in fact at this point, I would just expect that the beach situation is pretty dismal (2) If you are returning to this property or area, you will likely have spent nights walking the beach walk north to Whalers village. A large chunk of the beach walk was washed away in the July storm, so this is no longer possible without a 10 minute detour around the Alli hotel, our to the street and then back again. The beach walk situation appears to be getting worse before it gets better. Again, a state of Hawaii issue, so the hotels will not notify you of beach situation or beach walk situation, but it is a situation and could make for a disappointing surprise if you booked expecting them. (3) The central towers (molokai, maui and lanai) HAVE been updated, but I would classify it as more of a “refresh” than a true renovation. The age of that building and those units shows thru. This is NOT true of the Napilli/Lahaina towers reserved for timeshare owners. Those rooms are truly updated. The rooms are hard to distinguish online, because their photography is good for both. But we stood in both and hands down the Napilli and Lahaina towers are MUCH nicer. You can book those towers as a non owner though, and I would suggest that. Little further walk to the main pool, but rooms make up for it. (4) I would not do a paid stay here. We came on a promotional offer since we are Bonvoy titanium and they wanted to try to sell us a timeshare. Our kids had fun in the pool, the pirate ship was a hit for our 4 year old boy and we did enjoy ourselves. But if I had dropped $6000 to stay in the molokai tower where we stayed I would have not felt this was a great value. And I thought the beach and beach walk situation definitely hurt the kaanapali area vs Wailea. Personally, if I were booking again and wanted to do Kaanapali, I would stay at a resort north of the Alli so that the beach walk element was there. Easy walks up to dinner and back. If you are looking for the best pool on the island that your kids will freak out over though, head down to the Grand Wailea in Wailea. Epic experience there for the kids and beautiful luxe area. As an aside, if you are invited down to peruse a timeshare like we were - take them up on it. My review is based on if I was paying what it costs to stay here as a non owner, but by all means don’t let this review dissuade you from a nearly free vacation. Just know what you’re going to, BUT, I would STRONGLY advise against even considering purchasing into the vacation club points system. We had a near miss here where the sales guys blatantly lied to us and told us that our Titanium status got us a slew of benefits inside the MVC system. We were surprised to hear this and actually nearly signed because of it. That is until we got the contract and asked to see the portion of the contract where Titanium level bonvoy members received Chairman status and got a slew of upgrades including suite upgrades even if they bought at the lowest tier or 1500 points. Of course they couldn’t product it, because it was a lie, but that had told us this so we would sign and then it was going to be. a bait and switch situation where we joined the club, paid nearly $20,000 and then found out that our status meant nothing and we were at the bottom tier with no perks and no upgrades. I still can’t believe how blatant the lies were. SO, if you go sit thru their presentation, I don’t care WHAT you are told, I would 100% treat the MVC crew the same way you would a con artist. Assume lies, and unearth truth inside of the contract. Do not get bamboozled by what you are told verbally. Ensure everything is in writing on your contract before you sign anything. After our experience, I would never sign with this club. I can’t imagine how many people have been misled by any number of lies if they were willing to be so bold faced about the one they told us. It truly was proof that they will say anything to get you to sign, and it will be your problem later to deal with. Buyer beware!…
The good news it’s a nice property with a great staff. The bad is the Lanai tower is old and worn out. We arrived via interval international as Marriot Owners. As we traveled to the room the carpet is torn and replaced with tape and spotted. Entering the room, we can see it has had many travelers. The dresser while functional has seen better days. The couch is your typical uncomfortable hotel furniture. And the WIFI at best is spotty to slow. The efficiency kitchen is poorly designed with limited space and tools. Bathroom is standard with nothing special to write about. We got to tour the new towers with a lock off that was 100% better in the use of space and design.I would definitely ask for the tower.
