Kids had a fantastic time. So much to keep them entertained. 2 bedroom suite was well appointed. Staff at Kohala and Hilton Waikoloa Village were very nice and accommodating. We look forward to visiting your Hilton properties again in the near future.
My family and I, stayed at Kohala Grand Vacation July 2021. It is 25 minutes north from the Kona Airport. And 1.5 hours from Hilo. There is also a Costco and Walmart, about 30 minutes south of the resort. Kohala was perfect for my family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children, ages 22 and 14). There is a large master bedroom with a large shower, large closet, double sinks, high ceilings, and a large jet tub (but my husband said that the jets did not work well). There is a 2nd bedroom with 2 large beds and a TV. Next to the 2nd bedroom, was a 2nd full bathroom. This additional bathroom was really helpful for our family!! The suite also has a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and living room. The kitchen has a large refrigerator (with freezer and ice-maker), electric stove, microwave, double-sink, and dishwasher (with all the plates, cups, and utensils you need). Unfortunately, the coffeemaker is not a Keurig-type. We were happy because there was a rice-cooker available, as well! Dish soap, a dish sponge, pots/pans, cooking utensils, and bowls were provided. It was really great that the suite had a washer and dryer! This was really convenient. Our lanai faced the quiet golf course. There was a dining table with chairs on the lanai, as well as some loungers. Perfect place to watch the sunset, feel the breeze, and have a nice meal or drink. The parking was convenient as well. There is no charge for parking and there is usually plenty of parking right in front of your room. This is great when you have alot of luggage, groceries, young kids, etc. Island Gourmet Market at Queen’s Marketplace was about a mile away and a great place to pick up small essentials, quick meals, and souvenirs. If you are a guest at this Hilton, you and your family have free access to the pools at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort (which is 0.5 miles away). You can drive or take a shuttle there. Overall, Kohala had everything my family needed for a comfortable, relaxing vacation on the Big Island. I would definitely recommend this resort to my friends and family.…
Aged, darker themes, not much to do on grounds. Older layout in rooms, we had a 2BP. We’ve been with HGV over 25 years and this resort is waiting for its upgrade, I’m told is scheduled next year. Access to Kings Land and Waikoloa is a GREAT benefit. The soap scum on our shower door/glass was so thick you couldn’t see through it. I asked to have it cleaned, they came, exactly the same after. I spent 60 plus minutes cleaning with the dishwasher cleaning detergent and scrubby plus scraping with a knife so we wouldn’t feel uncomfortable. Nice patio, and for a change very comfortable cushioned deep seating, but the floor/carpet on the patio was very dirty and stained. We enjoy HGVMax Top quality and hope this will be GRAND again next year with its upgrading. The Mgmnt was very kind in trying to move our room to a 2BX or closer to pool but 2BX was not available for the duration of our stay and we agreed with staff recommendation the golf course view in 1923 was very nice, made the room shortcomings better. …
I took off one star from my review due to the age/cleaniess of our suite. Furniture and especially carpet could use an update as they are showing their age. Everything else is terrific with the property. We much preferred the ease of access compared to the main Hilton Waikoloa Village. You are essentially saving about an hour each day parking directly in front of your unit instead of a long walk from the parking lot. The small pool area is fine for us and our unit is closest to it. The suites are large and full kitchen is useful. Rates were reasonable compared to everything else in the Waikoloa Beach Resort area.
Two bedrooms, two baths. Very quiet in this area. The scenery is amazing. We enjoyed looking at palm trees swaying in the wind. The folks are very happy here for sure. As a guest here you can go down the street to ocean tower and swim and snorkel in the lagoon. The lagoon has many tropical fish and sea turtles. Nearby, there is shopping and restaurants. All good!
The room was dirty. There were rings on some of the flat surfaces where the previous guests had obviously put their drinks. The second bathroom had hair in the bathtub upon our arrival and they didn't even clean it when they did their mid-week cleaning. Made us wonder if they cleaned at all. The wifi was terrible and inconsistent and finally the hotel staff was ok but not friendly.
I would never, EVER have booked a room here had I realized they have captive dolphins on the property. Management will likely respond to this review saying that the dolphins are well loved and cared for, but one look into their enclosure is all you need to see clear signs of depression (bent dorsal fins, repetitive motions, etc). Get with the times Hilton, it's 2023 - animal above is out. You have plenty of other activities to keep kids entertained. Please work with a local wildlife agency to release your dolphins back to the wild. I will say that our room in the Ocean Tower was comfortable and clean, however the overall feel of this hotel is SO commercial - it's a complex designed for you to spend as much money as possible. Small example - the fridges in the room are set to an unsafe temperature for food so that you don't keep your leftovers or cook for yourself and instead spend money at their restaurants. (By the way, just pull the fridge out and change this setting on the back on day 1 so that you can actually use your refrigerator). From what I could tell, it's illegal to park on the street anywhere in the whole Waikoloa complex so if you have a car you're pretty much forced to use their lot for a whopping $44/day. The lagoon was nice to snorkel in, but there are beautiful beaches and coves all up and down the west coast of the big island where you can do this for free and water clarity is better. Overall, this place just felt like a totally commercial, las vegas-y theme park.…
We have been coming to the Big Island HGVC resorts for 16 years. We are owners at Kingsland, and have stayed there, the Bay Club and this visit at Kohala. We have had nothing but hiccups from day 1. 1. Electronic lock did not work and it took several hours to repair. 2. Once we were able to get in, we found the air conditioning to not be working. Maintenance came over and attributed it to the planar door not being closed properly. Sensors did not match up, they “fixed” it. Told to wait to let the unit cool down. We went over, returned several hours later, still not working. Another maintenance technician came, fiddled with the thermostats, said it was reading at 64, “ feel that cool air coming out”. There was no cool air. Told to wait for unit to cool down. It did not. We packed up a small bag and stayed at a Kingsland 7nit we reserved for our daughter who was coming the next day. The next morning, it was still hot in our condo. Reported to front desk, who called the hvac technician. He came over pretty quickly and declared the ac as inoperable. He promised to have it repaired by the end of the day, which it was. So 2 days pretty much wasted by a poorly maintained unit. 3. Next we discover the ice maker would not make ice. Reported it. No one came. The next day we reported it again, someone came to fix it. Declared it was fixed. One tray of ice produced, and no more. Reported it again. Housekeeping brought some ice. No one has come back to fix it. 4. Cockroaches in kitchen, ants on the lanai. I mean a lot of ants, Rawlings all over the table, cleaned it myself, it was filthy. Ants on the chairs. Ants still on the table. Cannot sit there and eat. I would not stay here again, as I write this sitting on a lounge chair on the lanai, there are ants crawling on my legs. This place needs some serious attention and maintenance .…
Good potential to be a great place but not up to my standard of cleanliness! Dusty doors and trim, filthy dirty window and screen door tracks, ripped couch . Otherwise we were very happy with rooms just wish we weren’t next to road ( building 16)
Two friends traveling together, we appreciated having a bedroom and bathroom for each of us. A fully equipped kitchen, laundry, very comfortable beds and plenty of space made for a pleasant stay. The location and free parking were great. You probably need a car to easily get to the many incredible places to visit nearby. Within a short drive there are a large number of very good restaurants, albeit expensive.
