This place is probably the best to stay in Hilo. Steve and Su are the hosts and gave us the best experience of first time using AirBnB. The location is next to the beach so the views were incredible, but it was the quiet that made it the most memorable. Add to that Steve's knowledge about the island and advise on things to do. The house is convenient to the most popular sites and activities. We watched a beautiful sunrise our first morning. All we had to do was stroll over the beach. Our room was decorated with a combination of hula figures and pictures of hot lave pouring out of a volcano. Tour books are in the room to help plan your days. Breakfast provided was healthy choices and shared with the other guests, so we made new friends. They also shared their experiences of spending a lot of time on Big Island. No pictures can capture that kind of experience, nor can any hotel.

Our biggest regret from our Hawaii trip is not staying another night here! Steve was a wonderful host, who met us and showed us around our suite and the lanai. He checked in with us at breakfast each morning, but wasn't overbearing--happy to let us enjoy the beautiful property without interruption. We had a great time in Hilo, but it was sometimes hard to convince ourselves to leave the B&B--it was tough to beat eating breakfast and then reading out on the lanai in their absolutely heavenly garden. Our room was large and clean, and the AC worked great. No issues with bugs or dust. Bed was a little firm, but even as a side-sleeper I had no problem falling asleep and woke up rested. Breakfast had standard continental options (bagels, English muffins, etc.) with a little Hawaiian twist (guava and lilikoi jellies)--but the real showstopper was the fresh fruit. The fresh papaya with lime was so good it had me researching whether I could grow my own papaya tree back home! We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit the Big Island!

Good location, nice room, but very limited self serve breakfast and interaction with host. Communication was lacking and host was not even there when we arrived. Host left a note on door to come in, but no other information about the place. He arrived several hours later and did a brief oral orientation to facilities.

Prior to our trip to Hawaii, we were beyond excited to stay at the Orchid Tree B&B. We had heard great things about the owners and the wonderful breakfast that was served each day. This influenced us to stay in Hilo for a couple nights rather than staying just in Kona while on the Big Island. Unfortunately, our stay was a big disappointment. First, when we arrived for check in we were greeted with a sign on the door (pictured). Since the note stated that they would be right back, we waited around for a while, as we wanted to meet the owners, learn about breakfast start time and pickup beach towels. Unfortunately, they never returned. Finally, we left and sent them a message on booking.com (we used this to communicate with them before) but the message was never returned. No one ever shared with us any info about breakfast time not did they attempt to check in with us on our first day there. It felt more like an Airbnb rental than a B&B. The next day we woke up early to ensure we would not miss breakfast. A different person greeted us and said breakfast was there, help ourselves. The breakfast was a glorified continental breakfast with cereal, granola, bagels and a piece of papaya. There was nothing wrong with the breakfast but it was very underwhelming especially after seeing the gorgeous fruit displays that Steve supposedly prepared for guests in the morning according to Trip Advisor. The following morning Steve showed up as we were finishing our breakfast. He announced he had just returned from the mainland. What bothered us the most about the whole experience was the fact that we were lied to on the first day and waited around with no information/guidance. I totally understand that our hosts have their own lives, but better communication could have improved this experience significantly. We stayed in the “hula room” which was very spacious. We did not like the bathroom but overall the room was decent. Unfortunately, there were a lot of mosquitos in the room when we entered. Overall, this was an okay experience at best that could have been improved with better communication and honesty.

This place was our favorite stay on our trip. Super relaxing and comfortable with a perfect deck to enjoy some breakfast before heading out and exploring. Steve was a great host and we felt right at home for our 3 night stay. We explored the Botanical Garden, Mauna Kea & Waipio Valley while we were here, which were a bit of a drive away but the drive along old Mamalahoa highway shouldn't be missed!

We were a bit spoiled with great weather, but our stay in Hilo was fantastic in part because of this B&B. To start, we stayed in both rooms (two nights in each). Both were very spacious and had room to unpack, unwind, and lounge around. One also had a fantastic ocean view and a private eating area. We loved going to sleep with the doors open, listening to the frogs outside. The breakfast area on the lanai was great. Every morning we were able to have a nice breakfast and enjoy the morning sunshine with our coffee. The covered hot tub was perfect at night after some big hikes around the area. There is also a clean pool on site - but with the beach and a fresh water stream a five-minute walk away, we didn't go in. The landscaping and garden are a lovely oasis. Three times we brought our meals back to the house because the garden was so lovely to eat in. Also a nice place to do an outdoor yoga session. Steve had some great tips for what to do around the area and made sure there were vegan items in the fridge for us during our stay. He was a very nice host, with a chill vibe that's very welcoming but not overbearing. He checked in every morning during breakfast, and the shared spaces were always spotless. Clean beach towels were left out every morning for us.

One of the best place's we've stayed in Hawaii. This is really a beautiful, quaint bnb with a beautiful pool and hot tub, which we enjoyed every day. We were on the tail end of a days long trip to the Big Island and we were really able to settle in here and relax. The room was big, comfortable and very clean.

Located less than 10 minutes outside Hilo , this B&B is by far the best of the ones we stayed at in Hawaii. The room we had was very large with a full living room suite of furniture, plus all the expected amenities. The breakfast was to die for. A whole platter of fresh fruit, mostly grown on property plus delicious waffles. The pool was a welcome private retreat after a hot day of sightseeing. The neighbourhood is quiet and just around the back corner is a road leading down to a wonderful local surfing beach. The host is friendly and provided us with a good dining recommendation.

Very comfortable and clean. Only wish it was within walking distance to downtown but the surfing beach was a very short walk and beautiful. Steve was very helpful and attentive. As described the fruit bowls in the morning were beautiful and he accommodated a request to eat a bit earlier on our last day. Would definitely return!

What a wonderful place to stay when visiting Hilo. Steve, Sue and V are wonderful hosts. My wife and I always stay at hotels. This was our first B&B experience. Breakfast was fantastic. Fresh fruit every day. Great coffee, cereal, yogurt, bagels. Steve makes a killer waffle and the quiche V served was delicious. I got up early to catch the sunrise on the beach a block away. The frogs are noisy at night, but you get used to them. (Or bring earplugs) We had to leave early to get to the airport and Sue got up to make sure we got coffee. (Steve was surfing) Mahalo.
