My wife and I stayed two nights at Lo'i during our trip to the Big Island. The property is stunning. Rooms are beautifully decorated and well-appointed, the beds are comfortable, and the gardens are lovely - all this within a five minute drive to downtown Hilo. Our room was oriented to look out over the lush gardens and had an amazing indoor/outdoor feel thanks to numerous windows and attached screened porch. Cody was a great host and the breakfasts were fantastic. We will absolutely stay at Lo'i again on our next trip to the Big Island.

This Bed&Breakfast is a little out of town in a quiet neighborhood. The only thing you'll hear will be the noises from the surrounding forests and eventually a plane arriving. The nicely furnished and decorated rooms are very big with an additional lanai. Only a table is missing in the room to place some items. Cody prepares a lovely breakfast in the morning with lots of fruit and different pastry every morning. If we ever go to Hilo again, we'll choose Lo'i again

Have you ever wanted to sleep comfortably in the midst of a tropical paradise? Go to bed to the chirping sounds of adorably tiny frogs, and rise to the pleasant calls of the native Hawaiian early birds (Who are getting the worms of course)? Or maybe you've always wanted to have a frikkin' waterfall in your front yard. At Lo'i you can have all this and more. This B&B is a short distance and easy drive from downtown Hilo, sitting on 1.7 acres of privately owned, lush rainforest. The rooms are tastefully designed and you have complete privacy. The view from your room is magnificent as you take in the waterfall, flowers in bloom, exotic fruit trees and vibrant green landscape. Cody was our host. He was really nice and gave us some great recommendations for things to do in Hilo. He always wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. The breakfasts here are so good! For one morning our lovely chef made us some waffles with 3 different types of syrup (Coconut, maple, lilikoi), and a massive fruit platter, perfectly sliced. The next day we had buttery croissants and a delightful locally made banana bread (This is great toasted with butter and topped with some fresh lilikoi btw). Coffee is available for your caffeine fix. Eating outside on the lanai is the perfect way to start your morning. You might even get some cute geckos stopping by for fruity handouts! The room comes with ceiling fans, an A/C unit, TV with a basic selection of channels, large shower area, and mini fridge. The room's mini fridge can't quite fit a regular size styrofoam box comfortably but there is a larger mini fridge in the common area between Cody's room and yours though, as well as a toaster oven. The actual grounds are amazing. You might wake up to see one of their cute chickens roaming the yard. There are very cool "sensitive plants" growing here that curl their leaves when you touch them. On one of the days we went down to look at the waterfall and saw that Cody's small mongoose traps were so alluring that he actually caught a cat in one lol. They grow some beautiful fruit trees, flowers and plants on premises. Check in and check out was easy. Note that you need a 25% deposit to reserve your room, and the remainder can be paid with check or cash. Credit card is accepted but there's a 3% processing fee. I did a lot of checking of hotel room prices around Hilo and for just a little bit more I thought our stay here vs. a more traditional hotel was worth every penny. Thanks to Lo'i for making it a great place to stay. Hilo will forever hold a special place in my travel memories!

We stayed at Cody's B&B for 4 nights at the start of our 3 week Hawaiian vacation. The Valley room was spacious w/ a large living room area. The shower was large & well done. We liked how they reused wood in the design of the room. We didn't spend much time on our private patio but we enjoyed our scenic waterfall. The breakfasts were wonderful. Each couple/room got their own tray of fresh fruit - at least 5 different kinds. The entrée was different each day - waffles, muffins, bagels, etc. The coffee and juice were great too. Cody and his mom was accommodating and offered advice & tips on local sights. The first time driving in might be a little confusing, especially in the dark. But after you've figured it out, no problems. You mail a check for 50% as a deposit then be sure to bring a check for the balance on arrival. This was our favorite place to stay on our trip and we would come back in a heartbeat!

We stayed as a family of 4 for three nights at Cody and Sandy's b&b. Our room and hosts were both fabulous. They gave us great suggestions to all our questions, served delicious breakfasts, and gave us a beautiful, charming room with a modern bathroom. Really tastefully decorated, both modern yet still Hawaiian. I should mention (as they mentioned to us at the time of booking), there is no a/c as the breeze and ceiling fans provide plenty of airflow, as is typical for Hilo. This worked just fine for us, but light sleepers may need to adjust to the vocal wildlife by the water (frogs), and mosquitos are a standard part of life in Hilo (Sandy had a whole tray of various sprays that worked well, and all windows are screened). Elegant, cozy and friendly. Mahalo, Sandy and Cody, for a fabulous stay.

My wife and I stayed in this quaint B&B overlooking what I believe they call a gulley along with a scenic waterfall. The room was beautiful and I believe recently remodeled. Breakfast was delicious and included fresh fruit and breads. Location is 5 minutes from downtown Hilo and was also convenient for trips to Mauna Kea (about an hour) and Waipio Valley (45 minutes). When we told the host that we had to catch a very early flight the next morning she graciously provided us with muffins and yogurt so that we could hit the road early. We would absolutely stay here again!

Our party of 5 took both rooms, staying for 5 nights of extraordinary comfort, care and fun! This new Hilo B&B venture had all the seamless service of an experienced master B&B team, which makes sense since the owners Cody and Sandy have branched out from the outstanding Orchid Tree B&B that Sue, Cody's Mom operates. So we lucked out with breakfasts made by Sue, and hosted by the warm and wonderful Tiffany, a family friend. Breakfast spreads featured delicious fruit and granola options daily and rotating treats including banana macadamia nut breads, quiche, apple turnovers and croissants, an apple cinnamon bundt cake, waffles, bagels that would meet scrupulous NYC standards and more. Tiffany introduced us to new fruits, including soursop, rambutan, lychee, and kept my papaya and mango cravings satisfied! We all appreciated the chance to share our adventures from the prior day, and get ideas for adventures that weren't on the standard map. We also really appreciated arriving "home" to amazing rainforest canyon views and to our spacious rooms featuring artisanal use of local woods, with amenities that are so thoughtfully designed. Beds, towels and furnishings hit that challenging mark of being both comfortable and luxurious. Our teenage sons appreciated the mini fridges, WiFi and Netflix service, the grill, the hammock overlooking the rainforest canyon and the opportunity to swim in the waterfall. We adults appreciated the recommendations of excellent restaurants, the array of effective mosquito repellants offered as a courtesy, the haven that the rooms offered, instant support and care when a member of our party needed to get access to an urgent care center (nothing related to the island, the B&B - just forgotten meds), and the calls of the coqui frogs that sent us to sleep each night. I know it's going to be a challenge to get in when we return - this place will book up months in advance once people know about it!

We stayed for 3 nights with our 2 teenage children, and all of us were incredibly impressed. Cody and Sandy are gracious, fun, helpful hosts who went out of their way to make our stay great. Cody advised us on how to bike to see the lava flow into the ocean (DO NOT MISS THIS!) and recommended some excellent restaurants in town, too. We found the price really great for the value. We really lucked out finding out about Lo'i B&B when they first opened. If you are lucky, they will have room for you too, though I bet they will stay busy once the secret is out. The room was spacious, fresh, and beautiful. The large screened windows look out onto a mature tropical garden. At night you hear the chirping of the Hilo frogs - it is like sleeping in a rain forest, only without any bugs or sleeping on the ground! Breakfasts were huge, delicious, and gorgeous to look at (wait til you see the fruit platter). The eating area overlooks a beautiful view - including a waterfall and tropical hillside. Although the B&B felt like an isolated slice of paradise, we were close to a popular surfing beach, the interesting old downtown of Hilo, a lovely street of historic homes, great food, and (40 min away) Volcanoes National Park.
