If you are traveling the I-77 corridor, and are near Bluefield, WV, you'll have a number of places to stop for the night, depending on your budget. If all you want is a CLEAN, comfortable place to stay a night or two, don't pass the Economy Inn on Old Cumberland Rd. I wasn't expecting much, as this was a short stay for a night on my way to (and later from) a family gathering. After I checked in, I opened the door to my room and was pleasantly surprised. A fairly LARGE sleeping quarters (12X17 - I measured) with a queen bed, lots of pillows, table and 2 chairs, dresser with a 40" flat screen TV. Not a lot of channels, but I wasn't there to camp out, but to get a good sleep and leave at sun up. Past the sleeping quarters was an alcove for suitcases with a rack for hangers, AND a mini-fridge and microwave. (I had a frozen dinner which I heated and ate). Off the alcove was the bathroom. One word - CLEAN. VERY clean. Lots of towels, shampoo, conditioner, etc, and a built in hair dryer. This was a NICE surprise. Most lower end motels are not this nice. There's an in-the-wall heating & a/c unit which you can set fan speeds, thermostat and make the room comfy to your tastes. Beat part? $56.50 for the night. YES! The building is old, but well maintained. Floors can be a bit uneven, some furniture is dated. If you want a 4 or 5 star rated, then go there and pay the price for it. Also a Dollar General store 2 doors away, a KFC 3 doors down the other way, and a gas station if you need to refill. I used all of them. I had 2 nights (4 nights apart) for a shade over $112. It was comfortable and CLEAN. Don't "judge a book by its cover". You might pay more than you need to.

The doors not latching is because they've been kicked in, it's where local addicts live weekly, monthly, or however long they can make it. Some work for their stay, he owns other properties too. I know because that's where my mother and her husband lived and they both worked and I hate to even think what all went on. But she ended up murdered there in one of those back building rooms because they were "fixing them up". And newspapers don't list lodging places when a death occurs. It hurts business. It's always been in bad shape and known for what it was. Ask Patel how many deaths have happened there from overdoses and how many murders have taken place. If they say none, ask about a Joyce being murdered there. Ask if he remembers when Joyce was murdered by her husband Pete. He knew my mother and he was a sick person too. So much is hidden at that place. We were shocked at what all was uncovered and how the cops on all levels and the hospitals failed to save her and stop what was going on. They apologized and admitted they failed us, but my mom has 5 grandbabies that she would be spoiling if we'd have known how bad things truly were. So this place is no hidden gem, look around at the area that used to be the busiest street in bluefield. It's all dilapidated. Look at the buildings in the same shape in the area. fresh paint doesn't hide much. Look at the people looking like zombies if you even see them at all, they're probably tweaking in their room or out trying to find a fix.

This place, you could definitely consider a "hidden gem". From the outside, it definitely doesn't look like much; just a basic, run-of-the-mill roadside motel in a small, quite town. However, looks can be deceiving. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful, and within minutes of arriving, we were checked in and had our key to our room. For approximately 60$, we were extremely pleased with what we found when we got there. The room was large and spacious, with a king bed, mini-fridge and microwave. The air-conditioning and WIFI worked very well, and the bathroom was bright and clean. The only real negatives were that the decor of the room (and the outside of the building, for that matter) was a bit drab and dated. The door to our room was also quite loose in the jamb, so even with the deadbolt pulled across, it moved quite a bit, which didn't make us feel 100% secure. Those two minor issues aside however, and this was a very good stay. We would definitely stay again if we're ever in the vicinity of Bluefield!

You begin to wonder when you check in and drive to your room. It is behind another empty building. However, it is well worth it. The room was very nice with new paint, carpet, bathroom fixtures, a very comfortable bed and good WiFi. It had a microwave and small refrigerator. The staff was very nice. It definitely merits a second stay.

I travel 3 weekends out of the month for Spartan races, so I look for the cheapest rooms and cross my fingers. I found this place for $58 a night and thought crap lets get it booked. I got there my wife gave me the "oh really" look but I convinced her to check it out before we went somewhere else. Yes the place looks run down and like a "Roach motel" but The good news is that is just from the outside and I observed them doing repairs to the building getting ready for a makeover. The people were friendly enough and happy to have us. The only negative I come up with is the bathroom is in need of renovation. But like I said they are working on it room by room. When I am racing all I look for is a place to lay my head at night and a place to shower. This place had those and I would recommend them to anyone who is not in need of all the amenities of a 4-5 star hotel.

It was a quiet room with two double beds, a tv, ac, and a bathroom. It was very clean and there weren't any bugs or mold etc, and the pillows were really fluffy. The bathroom door did have a huge gap and the towel rack was duct taped to the wall. Other than that, it was very well kept and the man who ran it was extremely nice.

I reserved the room through a website cause I wouldn't get there till after nine, never stayed there before. Check-in was easy enough and I went and checked out the room. The water took quite a while to get warm, it did and stayed that way. The room had a coffee maker, microfridge, several outlets, a comfortable bed, h vac and the necessary shower amenities. Oh yeah free WIFI too

we wanted to go skiing at Winterplace & to save money we stayed in a lower price motel not expecting it to snow 16 inches. the parking lot was plowed each day, we stayed warm & only asked for blankets because the comforters were slick but the heat worked great. We had the room with 3 full size beds which were close but the rest of the room was huge & as we ended up spending 90% of our time in it, we found it nice. Some items that would have helped are hooks or an x-tra towel rack in the bathroom, a table & an extra chair... we were comfortable. we were able to get out to the local collage & go sledding on their huge hill. & get x-tra supplies.
