Detailed Reviews

This B&B is off the beaten track in a stunning location, but well worth the effort. Mike and Diana are fantastic hosts who have an absolutely beautiful home. Our room had a terrace overlooking the river and the bathroom was large and well appointed. It is comfortable and spacious and very relaxing with the constant babble of the river which runs next to it. Mikes breakfast was superb and we were made to feel very much at home. Absolutely loved our stay, cannot fault a thing, cannot recommend it highly enough!

3 room B&B in a newly built home along the headwaters of the Washougal River in Skamania county. The hosts live downstairs, are very friendly, have 2 very well behaved dogs and raise chickens whose farm fresh eggs are part of the breakfast in the morning. The owners seemed flexible about the breakfast and asked beforehand (both via message and in person) about any dietary restrictions or preferences that we may have had. Along with the farm fresh eggs there were freshly baked biscuits, homemade gravy, jam/preserves, hashbrowns and of course orange juice and coffee were both available. Coffee and tea were also available any time, and the kitchen was available for us to use the night before. The jacuzzi on the ground floor patio was available for use which was clean and well-tended to. There were was a telescope and binoculars available in the living room, which has a remarkable view of trees across the river -- they also had field guides available to assist with bird watching. Bed was very sumptuous and we had the upstairs room with the balcony view of the river, which was very lovely. It had an outdoor heater which I imagine is very useful in the colder months. We were there when it was rather warm, and though I don't believe the house had central air they did have air conditioning on the ground floor -- and with the evening breeze at night we never got too warm.
They had kind of a place to climb down to the river with a taught/secure rope bannister (not stairs), and little footholds in the rock, so the river could be an activity in the warm months for people accustomed to hiking (if you are a person who likes river hikes in cold fast-moving PNW rivers and you have water shoes and you are familiar with navigating around slippery rocks at your own risk). Otherwise it's more of a scenic element that you can enjoy from their deck, or the balcony of the river view room or the hammocks outside. The sound is incredibly soothing. This is an area with a lot of native plants and unique & special wildlife so take care where you step if you do go down to the river. Their property is a short drive from Dougan Falls.
