This one has a room for breakfast, evening meals and a bar. There was a good selection of hot and cold food at breakfast and a decent selection of meals and desserts in the evening. Vegans, vegetarians and gluten-free well catered for, the food is good and good value for money.
What makes this hotel really great is the staff, they're all good people. Chrissy on reception makes you feel welcome immediately, she's friendly and very helpful. She gave me lots of advice about places to visit which made my holiday really great. Doreen in the bar and breakfast room really looks after everyone and is always making people laugh, she should be promoted to entertainment manager!
I want to take a moment to acknowledge Kieran for the exceptional service he provided during our stay. From the moment we arrived, he consistently went out of his way to ensure we felt welcome and comfortable. He was attentive to our needs and took the initiative to help both us and his colleagues, whether in the kitchen or with housekeeping.
Kieran’s strong work ethic and willingness to step in wherever necessary were evident throughout our time there. His efforts made a real difference in the quality of our stay, and he always made sure that everything ran smoothly.
He is truly an asset to your team, and his level of care and professionalism deserves recognition. We appreciate everything he did to make our stay so enjoyable.
My room sadly was the only room within the building that had no windows given the location(not the basement), although it did have a skylight.
The bed was comfy and the room was very clean, given some of the places I have stayed in previously.
It came with the basic amenities such as tea/coffee making facilities/good size bathroom with shower and TV.
The cost of the room was over £200 for two nights inc breakfast so I was slightly miffed when only given 30 minutes free wifi before having to pay £3 for 24hours.
Location was situated close to shops along with places to eat/drink along with a public car park close by.
Breakfast selection was good ranging from cereal to a full English and was prepared by Doreen. In my two day stay she would come out and ask the guests if everything was ok and always willing to assist if needed.
Having worked all over the UK and stayed in multiple travelodge locations, I have found the Newport location on the IOW to be the best by far.
I would like to thank all staff to whom helped make my stay a pleasant one, yet special thanks to both Doreen for her tasty breakfast and Chrissy for her professionalism whilst on reception.
When we returned to the hotel that night with our 2 young children, again no member of staff around and it took a while to get the key card to unlock the first door. When we got out the lift to our floor, it stank of smoke despite being a no smoking hotel. Thankfully this did not impact on our room. The following morning again the floor had a smoky smell.
We went to breakfast which was buffet style. Breakfast was fine, staff replenished food as and when guests told them to though, no one was keeping a check on this.
We checked out and as there was finally a member of staff on reception I informed them of the smoking smell on the floor to which he apologised but didn’t seem to bothered ‘oh someone’s been smoking in their room. Only way to find out who is by shutting fire doors to break up the floor’. I felt like this seems far to much work for the chap to do by his response.
You have to pay for parking which is a slight pain. It’s £1 from 1800 until 0800 the following morning which you then need to top up unless you’re leaving by then. If you use the parking app, it only takes payment until 0430 so then you need to top that up in the early hours! Be prepared!!
It would be useful if the Travelodge arranged parking for their guests with the local council by providing parking permits for the duration of the guests stay.
Would we stay here again? Yes, because we have family on the island and it’s convenient. we have stayed here before and it was good, this was an average stay.
Where this venue excels is regarding its staff. All staff smiled and greeted spontaneously with genuine warmth and a natural inclination to be helpful. Special thanks to Doreen, Chrissy and Lily….you made our stay very enjoyable.
It's a smaller Travelodge and quite basic which is actually nice and I prefer that personally . Parking is a private pay and display carpark about 50 metres away, it seemed safe and has security cameras and is at time of writing £5 for 24 hours. Everywhere is clean and tidy and the rooms are as expected, well turned out and clean with a comfy bed and good powerful shower which is all I really need. There is a kettle and courtesy tea making supplies although I always carry my own brew kit and milk anyway. There is also Freeview TV in the rooms and a small bar on the ground floor. The Travelodge is well situated in Newport Town with all the usual local amenities but I didn't have time to do any of that.
Doreen and Chrissy are the best and it was nice to get back to my room at night and it felt homely and welcoming. All in all I would recommend Travelodge Newport for a basic clean no fuss nights sleep and good food and I hope to stay again in the near future.
The hotel is dog friendly which is why we choose this hotel, our dog is part of our family, Doreen ensured she had a dog treat waiting for him every day, which made the stay extra special for us, it's nice to know that he was looked after to. Thank you Doreen for the extra little touch. Another employee Chrissy worked behind the scenes and kept rooms tidy and helped with other functions keeping the hotel running smoothly, well done to all though, the hotel runs well.
The bed was very comfy and the pillows were great.
I expected more from Travelodge and was very disappointed. I am unlikely to book one again.
