Most of them also include a small balcony where you can relax after a long day at the beach. Each of the rooms has its own private bathroom that features a shower and hairdryer.

Lovely clean room but basic. Could have done with a TV & a fridge but no complaints. Very noisy yapping dog living downstairs decided any time all night was good to bark continuously. You get what you pay for. Perfect location right in the heart of Cala D’or

Very clean and friendly place. It's located in the very center of the town, so surely you dont get 100% silence in the night, but cala d'or itself is a VERY quiet resort, so the noises are reasonable and normally by 2am everyone has calmed down :-) The breakfast is very simple, but its nicely served on the outside terraсe, you get a nice cup of coffee or tea, an orange juice, bread with butter, cheese or ham, and jam. One of the beaches (and maybe the smallest and nicest one) is just 1 min walk from the place.

I have just returned from a two week holiday lodging in this establishment, and have nothing negative to say about it. My expectations were met and even exceeded. I was booked on a "single, room only " basis and on arrival Pepe, the owner, immediately upgraded me to a double situated at the rear overlooking mature gardens and the little lane leading down to the lovely Cala d'Or beach a few minutes away. The balcony got the sun, from it rising, until around four pm,which was great for speedy drying of the daily wash! I worked it out that it cost me around eighteen pounds a night, which I consider to be good value. The room was clean and bright with the paintwork looking fresh even close to the end of the season. Some of the fittings and fixtures were starting to show their age,but Pepe informed me ,during one of our many chats, that he was having a bit of a refit for next year giving attention to the bathrooms in particular. I would normally select half board, but in this case I did not, which was probably a good idea as I was practically the only occupant for most of the time. Being a bit "picky" it is not good paying for something and still having to eat out. In larger places when there is a buffet you can usually find something to choose. I did eat in the restaurant a few times and was given a ten per cent discount. I found Cala dOr very expensive in comparison to other resorts ( see my other reviews ) but a place that was popular with the brits for value for money was the "Marfil" situated opposite the Spar " Las Vegas". Coming to the subject of noise, it very much depends on the time of year you are there as I had no problem with the ambient level and for the reason mentioned above, was spared any banging and scraping from other rooms.( what do people DO in these hotels ? ) Just to digress and end on a cautionary note,I was unfortunate to have a fall and sustained two severe cuts on my arm which necessitated treatment at Manacor Hospital. The system worked extremely well because I was carrying my EHIC card and photocopy of my passport.so may I suggest you do not go anywhere without these documents.

The non-existent cleanliness, in eight days of stay the room was never cleaned and the only change of linen was left in a bag outside the door. The air conditioner leaked water when in operation, the entrance door to the room overlooking the corridor was old and let in all the noise and light as it did not close well. Also missing was an extractor fan for the bathroom blind and practical things like a toothbrush holder or welcome kit (which might be a given). For those looking for a convenient structure in a tourist location like Cala d'Or, the location is convenient even if it overlooks a street with too much nightlife.

This hostal was a bet! Happy to have chosen it. There are several photographs that describe two totally different places. Don't consider the bad photos with 80s furnishings, old and dirty. I don't even know if they're real. The rooms are fresh, white, clean and the bathrooms are modern with a shower without the curtain (which I hate) but with glass. We also had a small balcony, furnished, very pleasant. The location is great! A stone's throw from the center with all the clubs and behind the structure a small road, a 2-minute walk, takes you to the Cala Petit beach (the most beautiful of all the coves of Cala D'or) Self Checkin is also easy

The Hostal Talamanca is a great little basic hostal which is in the perfect location for all of the attractions within the sweet little resort of Cala D'Or. Only 2 mins walk to the Cala D'Or beach, and a 10 min walk to Cala Gran and the local (and very posh) marina, Cala Llonga. I stayed in a single room for 7 nights. Lovely room, decor was a bit dated (but that wasn't a problem for me!), all room facilities were basic but worked well (shower, loo, sink), no TV or hairdryer, but that wasn't a problem. Balcony was lovely. I stayed on a half-board basis, so breakfast and dinner were provided each day. Breakfasts consisted of 2 bread rolls, butter, jam, slices of ham and cheese, coffee and juice. There were some changes to this, such as croissants and only either ham or cheese, based on their supplies. Dinners were very sufficient, as I found out by accident! On my first night, I thought I was just getting a bowl of pasta bolognaise, but the waitress told me there were 2 more courses to come! They served a lot of chicken (!), and the food was basic (ie. a couple of scoops of ice cream for dessert), but it was all well-cooked and tasty. I always thought it was odd that Don Pepe, which is run by the same people as the hostal, was a pizza restaurant, but we never got any pizza! On the last night, I skipped my main course, as the starter of tuna lasagne was enormous! A highlight for me was the wonderfully light tiramisu. The hostal was situated right in the heart of the 'restaurants and bars' district of Cal D'Or, so the evenings are extremely noisy. As my room was at the front of the hotel, right on the main street, it was very hard to sleep most nights. Music, people chatting, parrots from the local bar, and this bloke who rode around on his very loud motorcycle. Then there would be a lull at around 2am, where the peace descended. Early in the morning, though, the road sweepers and leaf blowers would come down the street and make lots more noise. It was hard to sleep with the doors closed, due to the heat, so I would recommend moving to a room at the rear of the hostal, or take ear plugs! As I have just mentioned the road sweepers, it is fair to say that Cala D'Or was extremely well looked after, and very beautiful. The beaches did get busy, but if you get there early, you'll be fine. I found that Cala D'Or was the prettiest and most peaceful beach, with the use of the Hotel Cala D'Or bar and restaurant. Sun loungers were about E5 each, with an additional charge of E2 for the parasols. Cala Gran was much more suited to people who wanted to take part in watersports, and there were more families at this beach. The loungers were 50 cents more expensive at this beach, too. Food outside the resort was quite pricey for what it was. I only really had lunch out once, which was at the Hotel Cala D'Or restaurant - A tomato and mozzarella salad, which was basic, but refreshing. It was about E8.50, though. This seemed to be the same everywhere - You paid quite a bit for not a lot. There were lots of shops and supermarkets nearby to purchase food, though, although the hostal did not have a fridge in the room. I would recommend a trip to Cala Llonga to look at the posh yachts and let yourself feel like a millionaire for a day! There are a lot of bars and restaurants here, including seafood restaurants. There are a lot of 'English' or 'Irish' bars and restaurants at Cala D'Or, but that's true of anywhere abroad nowadays. It's not a personal like of mine, but this is only my opinion. I did, however, come across a real find - Jumble, a second-hand charity shop run by a lovely English couple, which is great for picking up books, DVDs, and all sorts of clothes and nick-nacks. I donated some of my books when I left, as well as a couple of other things. This shop was only a short walk up the hill from the hostal. To summarise, I think the only thing I wasn't happy with was the noise (which wasn't the fault of the hostal itself), and I think, next time, I would book a room in a hotel with a pool. I am funny about sand and going in the sea, though!! The Hostal Talamanca was a friendly, sweet hostal with basic but functioning amenities, and a generally good location for all of the shops, restaurants and bars nearby. I would recommend this hostal to solo travellers, families and couples alike.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weeks holiday to Cala D'or. Even though it's classed as a hostel our rooms were cleaned every day and we were given clean towels every day too. The staff were so friendly and helpful. It's less than a min walk to the beach as well as being central to all shops, resturants and bars. Would 100% recommend to friends and family and will return. Thanks so much Talamanca !

Needed a room for the day as we had to leave our villa at 10am but did not fly until 10pm. There is nowhere in Cala D'or that offers a luggage storage service so we resorted to asking at the nearby Hostels/Hotels. After a few Hotels said no we finally asked at the Hostel Talamanca. They were friendly and offered a room for 10 peoples suitcases and the use of the shower for 30 euros. Absolute life saver as we did not want to drag cases around all day. The room was basic but clean and tidy. The shower was powerful and there was a balcony to chill out on and people watch. Great location 2 minutes from the beach too. I would be happy to stay here off season-it might be a little warm without air con or a ceiling fan in very hot weather.

It may be cheap but it does give a big welcome. Pepe the proprietor is a very welcoming host assisted by his hard working staff.
As you would expect for the price the rooms are basic, very basic in fact, but clean and comfortable. The rooms at the front of the hotel overlook the main street which in the evening can be quite noisy with music from the nearby bars and restaurants but it doesn't go on much past midnight so not a great problem.
We stayed half board and the only small criticism is the limited menu which got a little boring after two weeks, that said there are dozens of restaurants and bars within a short walk of the hotel so plenty of choice nearby.
The beach is about a two minute walk down the path at the rear of the hotel, which is handy as there is no pool at the hotel.
This is a hotel would not hesitate to use again.

For a cheap, basic place to sleep and wash I would recommend, but for food and service a big No. After arriving at about 2am from out transfer we walked in to a dark reception with noone home. According to another guest, the owner had just left so we rang the hotel number with no success, and went across the road to talk to the owners of the bar there. They told us it had happened many times to other guests and that the workers at talamanca were "very silly" or something along those lines. We then got a phone call from the owner who drove back to check us in. After about 40 minutes of panic and thinking we would be spending the night sleeping on the floor we were given our key by the pissed off owner and left to find our room. He was not sympathetic or apologetic, and told us we were supposed to have phoned the hotel prior, to tell them our arrival time. No where did I see this during the booking process. Funnily enough one night when we were coming back in the hotel from a night out, there was another couple from the same city (Bristol) who also had the same problem and we gave them the phone number to ring the owner. Never have I known a hotel to operate in this manner.
After a sweaty, muggy nights sleep with no air con (You must ask for a fan otherwise they will not give you one out of courtesy (b******s)), we sat down for breakfast. We were brought few slices of ham on top of slices of cheese, 2 white small bread rolls each and some butter, jam and orange juice. What amazed me about the service here is that they cant even be bothered to ask what food requirements you have. My girlfriend is allergic to oranges and we are both vegetarians, so he had to take the meat away and give us more white bread rolls and jam. Yummmm. Definetely a nice hearty breakfast to fill us up for the big day ahead, not. Some days he did bring us 2 fried eggs each with bread rolls. Usually I eat 5 boiled eggs for breakfast at home, and he made us feel like it was rude for asking for a couple more eggs. Thankfully there was a supermarket close so was able to buy more food to eat, since my hotel were clearly tring to save money on food and portion sizes.
If you like to have any say in what you would like to eat for the evening forget about it, because they will bring you whatever they want and what we experienced was they brought us mostly cheap food or meals that they had excess of such as pasta and sauce, and a tiny slice of fish with a potato. On our final full day, our last evening meal, for desert we were given a cold banana on a plate. We looked at our plates and just laughed, astonished, anger. There are only 2 people serving so some days we waited and waited, as people who did not stay at the hotel came and ordered their food, and since we already paid for half board were treated as less priority to customers paying on the night. I remember once waiting 50 minutes for our desert (time we wanted to spend going around the shops and centre) for 2 scoops of cheap ice cream with squiggles of sauce.
We spotted a cockroach in the main lobby making its escape down the stairs from 1st floor, which was nice to see.
On departure the owner (receptionist) didnt even know he had recieved an email from the holiday agent with our transfer time on, so we had gone to internet cafe to check our email for transfer time when all along the hotel had the email. Why did he not know this? It was as if we were his first customers and he didnt know the score, or he just didnt give a s**t.
Apart from the hotel we had a great holiday and would go again to Cala D'or but not in this hostal. Main reason being the service and attitude of the owner and main waiter.
