We will come back if food quality and cooking will improve
PLUS: kids will be enthusiastic about the hotel premises. The facilities (outside park, swimming pool, miniclub) will make their days! The staff taking care of kids is nice and professional. Rooms are large, pleasant and clean. Generally speaking, the hotel staff is very polite and well trained (waiters, reception desk, barmen). There is a free shuttle running from the hotel to the beach and the village, always on time (taxi are more expensive than in Tokyo...).
MINUS: frankly speaking, you are entitled to expect great food in southern Italy. Breakfast: delicious pastries and cakes, no fresh fruit (on summer time, something you woul really like to have). Dinner: below expectations. Very interesting appetizers buffet, but main dishes not up to the level you would expect. On some circumstances, fish was simply too bad. For our convenience, we had a la carte lunch on few occasions and I must say that we had been positivelly surprised, much superior quality than in the evening.
I would strongly recommend this hotel to families, less so to pure gourmand! I would definitelly stay there again.
Now what can I say that is positive?
1. Cleanliness of the rooms was good. Good clean every day, no fresh bedding but a fresh bath towel every day.
2. Large sized room, fridge to store drinks in. Decent enough hairdryer. Nice view from the balcony.
3. Shuttle bus to Lacco Ameno and the beach, although, it’s telling to say one of the best things about the hotel was the ability to leave it!
4. Pool area outside is ok, plenty of sun beds. Pools themselves are ok too.
Now here comes the negatives....
1. The absolute number 1 worst thing is the food. Sadly, we only had the option to go full board. Most people come to Italy for fresh pasta, pizza, delicious flavours. Well, the food can only be described as something you’d get in an old people’s home or 90s school dinners. Bland. Unimaginative. If you are a vegetarian I hope you like omelettes, as that’s all you will get. As a meat eater, you can eat a dry piece of veal every lunch and dinner! I am pretty sure the chef has lost all will to live, as he or she produces such poor food each meal. Breakfast is the same every day too. Also, get down early to get anything remotely decent from the buffet, no refills happen and it runs out in the first 20mins. It’s a sad thing to say bland arancini balls and croquet potatoes are the highlight of the buffet. Also everything on the buffet is cold. A huge array of over cooked vegetables that are cold is your only option if late to dinner. Moral of the story, don’t eat here.
2. The hotel has some outrageous policies. No iron is provided in the room, if you need anything ironing it will cost you €3-8 per item. If you want a dry pool towel it’ll cost you €2 per towel, apparently for environment reasons, but they replace the hotel room towels every day even if you hang them up? And as for a robe? A whopping €15 for a week rental!!!!!!! Further, drinks prices are vastly overpriced particularly spirits (€12 per spirit plus the cost of a mixer). The good news is the hotels own very watery terrible house wine is €9 per bottle. So down a couple bottles of those and things might seem better.
3. Be warned Italian hospitality and manners does not exist, this is probably not the hotels fault per se but cultural - but do be prepared to be ignored, or receive rudeness from staff. Also bring google translate, this is a must as most guests here are Italian so the staff don’t speak much English.
4. the hotel decor is very outdated. Our room decor is terrible. I dare not sit on the “sofa” which looks like something out of a soft play area. The beds are rock solid. Balcony only fits 1 person. The hotel hasn’t had any changes probably in about 20 years.... probably why the clientele are old aged pensioners....
5. The entertainment, well, its what I’d imagine would be in an old people’s home. Enough said on that.
Do not let this put you off Ischia island itself which is beautiful- but just don’t stay here.
