This hotel had no phones in the rooms. The room that I had was next to the sewer. I asked for a non-smoking room so when I got there and opened up the door it smelled like smoke. It was not handicapped accessible like I was told it would be.
Clean , just a basic place to sleep. Can get coffee, treats, gas right across the road at a convenience store. Close to historical sites. Owners were friendly. Free WiFi . Price could be a little cheaper since they offer no breakfast items.
Other than a B&B, this motel was the only option in Montross. It is older and very dated. We had three rooms, which were all very dark due to the walls and ceilings being dark colored paneling. My room was clean, but the bathroom floor, while clean, was crack up and needed to be replaced, as did the fixtures. It is obvious that the owner is making strides updating this property including flat screen TVs, and new doors and locks. The owner was very friendly and helpful at check-in and also when I checked out the next morning. If I had to, I would stay at this property again, but if another option was convenient, possibly a chain hotel, I would probably go with the other option.
We stayed at this motel for one night because we were doing something locally, and this was the only lodging that was nearby. I'm sure it must be hard work to be an independent motel owner. The owners apparently live in an apartment that is part of the hotel, and they were very pleasant and nice from the little interaction we had with them. The room that we were in was probably typical of the motel, and it was literally something that's right out of the 60's. The rooms were small, and they were very dark due to the wood paneling that's on every wall. The ceiling was also a dark wood paneling. The beds were just fine, but they didn't have any blankets on them. They just had a sheet and a bedspread. Bedspreads are notorious for being very dirty as they are rarely laundered - though I suppose you could say that same thing about blankets as they are heavy, though not has heavy as bedspreads. The sinks in the vanity area worked fine, but they too were old. But given the age of the place, the room seemed to be clean enough, though the dim lighting made it somewhat difficult to see. The room had a modern refrigerator and a microwave, and they worked just fine. The phone in our room didn't work, but we had cell phones. The bolt on the door locking mechanism worked, but the secondary latch above it was broken. We ended up wedging a chair underneath the door handle to ensure that no one could bust through the door, or that housekeeping wouldn't inadvertently come in using a master card key. The hand soap felt like plastic, but the bath soap was fine. There was a small tear-packet of shampoo, which we didn't use since we brought our own shampoo. The towels were thin and rough, though clean. We also brought our own towels too just in case. There was free Wi-Fi that worked well. The pictures I'm posting kind of speak for themselves. This is a bare-bones place, and works in a pinch given that there are no other options around.…
This motel was very nice, we only stayed one night after an oyster festival, but it was great. It is not a 4 star hotel, it is an older establishment, but it was very comfortable and clean and the management was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are entered from the outside and they have adirondack chairs outside for the guests use. We were with a group of 5 and we sat outside on a beautiful night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves…….like going back in time! Sometimes that is a good thing :)
This is an old, very basic, budget roadside motel and you get what you pay for. The furniture is old but the room was large and clean and the wifi was great. The only real complaint I had was the very strong odor of disinfectant or cleaning product of some kind. Budget motels are our standard fare, but if you are used to upscale, this isn't for you. Otherwise, it's fine.
Montross is a very small town and accommodations are rare, so I am very grateful for this motel. My father and grandmother stayed here when I graduated from high school in 1972, so it's been here for quite a while. The location is great, my grandson and I walked "uptown" to the drug store, and Food Lion, the Dairy Freeze, and the skating rink are all within walking distance. The beds were very comfortable, the heating unit worked great. Our room was clean, linens were clean. The website stated the room had a hair dryer but we couldn't find one. I'm sure if we had asked there would have been one available. They do have Gideons' Bibles in the nightstand, which I always look for. We were grateful for the coffee maker, and the ice machine was just outside our door, as was a soda machine. The staff were very friendly. We forgot our key one day when we went out and when I went to the office to request to be let in, they smiled and handed me our key without me even having to ask so they do notice who you are.....and if you've left your key inside your room.…
