We wanted to do some Fall camping and see the beautiful colors in the Shenandoah and Monticello camping was perfect location. They have a very large country store with everything you would need and more! The campground is secluded not overly large but it’s very nice and wooded with a large fishing pond. We travelled in a 30 foot trailer and getting in and out of campground was not a problem. Longer sizes or 5th wheels will be a problem. We saw a some motor homes they have limited sites for them. They also have cabins and many tent only sites . Location of campground is great, only three miles off Blue Ridge Parkway and about 30 minutes from the Nelson 151 Winery Trail.

I made my reservations about a month ago. We were excited to visit the resort and looked forward to hiking in the area. 5 days before our trip hurricane Ian is predicted to hit the mountain ranges of Virgina as a tropical storm causing flash flooding. I called the office asking to change the dates of my reservation or cancel due to the storm. I was told by the lady on the phone that she could not control the weather and I could only cancel my reservation losing one night's stay from my total refund. I understand the policy and why it stands. My problem is the Resort isn't flexible in their policy. This isn't a summer rainstorm, it a named hurricane that is going to hit the area as a tropical storm causing flooding and tree damage due to the high winds. In retrospect, in the same day I was able to cancel my air BNB reservations I made for my daughter with a full refund due to the storm. In my opinion, the Montabella resorts customer service is poor. We will most likely never book here again and ill suggest my camping friends reconsider choosing this resort.

The campground is beautiful. I did not stay in a camper or tent site so I cannot attest to the quality there. We did rent the Mountain View Cabin B. This is the lower level of the cabin. The beds were comfortable. The blankets are VERY thin on chilly nights. There was a small leather sofa, a futon and another couch. There was a table and chairs, a TV, DISH satellite. (There is NO phone and there is no cell reception nor internet here -- IMO, that is dangerous if you need help after hours as the camp store is closed.) The bathroom was clean and the water pressure and hot water was nice. The soap that they give you, in my opinion, is very smelly. I am glad I brought my own. Outside there was a picnic table that is really weathered and needs to be replaced. There is patio furniture outside as well. There is a grill (filthy) and a fire ring but there are NO level spots to put chairs around the fire and is dangerous as you are on a hillside. There are HUGE speed bumps throughout the campground. For a truck or SUV, the bumps are probably not a problem. However, our car kept bottoming out on the bumps! Inside the cabin, there is "cookware" and utensils and plates and glasses to use. The cookware was unusable as it is all rusted out and FILTHY disgusting! (There is a log entry in the visitors book that says that someone in 2019 said the same thing about the cookware being rusted out!) The can opener was broken and FILTHY! When we put bread in the toaster, it caught fire as someone left something in there!! Behind the cute propane fireplace/TV stand are about a MILLION dead flies and bees!! They never cleaned back there! The reason I know this is one of my dogs toys went back there and I had to get it out. I do not think we will ever stay there again.

Stayed in the Crabtree Cabin in September of 2021. Incredible clean, fresh smelling, and peaceful cabin. Plenty of hot water for good showers, comfortable bed, kitchen has everything you need. We enjoyed sitting by the fire pit as the sunset and enjoying coffee on the porch as the sun rose. Great location for hiking Crabtree Falls (so close we beat the crowd there) and hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Nice drive (about 45 minutes) to the wineries. Will definitely be returning!

Nice and quiet! Don’t recommend going in anything larger than 21’. We have a 19’ toy hauler. Sites are small. We stayed at #19 which was right on the lake. Site 18 and 42 are great too. #20 looked to be the best. And the lake cabin is a fantastic choice. The bathrooms were very clean, but we didn’t use them. Everyone was very friendly. Loads of people staying had 3 dogs, so very dog friendly. Dump station was super convenient. Only thing is that at our site,#19, the water and electricity are on opposite sides of the site. We had a 25’ hose that wouldn’t reach, so we just filled our tank so no issue. Checking in at the store was great (the store is amazing and everyone super friendly).

Not recommended for motor homes or trailers 20’ or larger!!! This place is very tight and dangerous getting to and from. It’s perfect and secluded for tents and pop up campers. Cabins available. Excellent place for hikers but NO, NO, NO for any larger RVs. The office can not tell you that because they want the business, but traveling there is just not safe.

Stayed for 3 days and it was perfect. Loved fishing in the lake and enjoying being away from it all. No cell service so be prepared! Also, look into the roads in and out. Take Blue Ridge Parkway. We ended up driving Crabtree Falls way in a 40 foot motorhome and it was challenging. Such a special place. County store and fish hatchery were awesome to check out. Lots of great hiking. If you love adventure, go to Montebello and get a taste of living the mountain life. If you like perfectly level sites, interstate roads, and WiFi, go to a KOA, Montebello is not for you :) 40 ft Motor-coach towing F-150 truck.

We stayed here in our camper for 5 days. It was a little rough getting situated, but once we did, we had a wonderful time! It was so quiet and peaceful, even on the weekend. I enjoyed fishing at the big lake, even though I didn't catch anything. We will be back!

What wonderful times spent with family. Peaceful, relaxing and so much fun. The scenery is beautiful setting among the trees. A plus being you can bring your dog along if you are renting the bottom floor. Been there twice and would not hesitate to do it every year.

Family owned campground with a stocked trout pond. Big sites near a pond. Plenty of trees. Right down the road from Crabtree Falls. Gorgeous area especially in the fall. Friendly staff. Nice bathroom and showers on site. The best thing is no cellular service. Great way to disconnect and enjoy nature.
