We stayed at the one bedroom unit called "Santa Fe" for 3 nights. As soon as we opened the door for the first time, we were "greeted" by a very strong smell that filled the entire unit. We could not sleep that night as we were surrounded by the unpleasant smell that was penetrating everything. When we talked with the owner/manager about it the next day, we were told that it might be from wood treatment and we should just get use to it. Unfortunately there was no other unit available that would fit our family needs so we had to endure the awful smell for the entire stay hoping it's not toxic. Another major issue was that there was a huge amount of insects roaming in the unit from day 1, especially around kitchen/eating area. Although there was a full kitchen, it's very hard to cook & eat in the unit as hundreds of die-hard fruit flies were swarming around all the time. Many of them would dive right into food & drinks like suicide-bombers as we were cooking or eating. We were so disgusted that we had to go eat outside instead. Furniture was old and ceiling & wall were discolored. Shower was dirty. Futon was covered with dust. There was no dish washer and the dish rack could not be used as it had large yellowish brown stains on it. The blind on bedroom window did not provide enough privacy as it didn't cover the window well. On the positive side, the freezer unit in full size refrigerator allowed us to make ice over night to bring to hot hikes the next day. The bed in the bedroom was clean & comfort enough to sleep in although we were kept awake by the terrible smell. Over all, I would NOT recommend this place to any future travelers.…
We stayed at this motel because there are few options for lodging in the Big Bend area and we wanted to stay in Terlingua. We had made reservations online in November before visiting at the beginning of March. When we checked in, we were told that the amount listed on the website had not been correct so we needed to pay an additional amount. This seemed unfair to me since it was not an error on our part. In spite of this problem, the lady at the front desk was friendly and helpful when we decided to extend our stay. The rooms were disappointing in that there was no refrigerator or microwave in the room. However, the heat/air conditioner unit worked well and the beds were comfortable. The views from the parking lot were fantastic. Fortunately, we had very little noise from our neighbors but if they had been noisy, we definitely would have heard them since I did hear voices at one time. I'm assuming the high price of these basic rooms was due to the proximity of the motel to Big Bend National Park. On the plus side, this motel is only about a mile from a service station and convenience store.…
The motel offers very few amenities, and what they do offer is of low quality. Some information on what is/isn't provided follows; if you are able to bring along some provisions it will make your stay more comfortable. No fridge. Bring shelf-stable food or a cooler. No free ice but ice is offered for sale at the shop. No coffee maker, coffee, tea, coffee cups, or beverage condiments. No shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand lotion, or tissues. They provide a small amount of poor quality hand soap. The dry air is very desiccating; if your skin or hair is prone to dryness you'll want to bring your own good quality toiletries. They provide towels but their texture is very rough. The pillows are flat and carry an odor from all previous users. If this sounds gross to you, and if you can manage it, I recommend bringing your own pillow and pillowcase. Ear plugs if noises of other people are bothersome. Slippers and shower shoes: the motel isn't particularly clean.…
There are few hotel/motel options in Big Bend and they are all expensive and/or require at least a two night stay. The motel staff were friendly and funny, but the motel itself is a series of trailers welded together. Everything said or watched by our neighbours could be heard. Fortunately people went to sleep fairly early and fairly quickly. The carpet was very suspect but the bedding was clean enough and there were fresh towels and industrial soap. It is worth it to see the landscape and the stars at night but be prepared for basics.
Looks like trailers attached together with paper thin walls. Dark wood paneling on the walls. NO refrigerator, microwave or tv in the room. Bath wall enclosure attached with drywall screws.Full size beds. However motel was clean with running hot water and working toilet. Front desk person was very nice. Very, very basic and kind of expensive for the comforts it offers.
