This is a restaurant in San Lorenzo del Escorial, Madrid. we sat down at the terrace and they told us that we could not eat outside. We entered inside and they never took our order. After 1.30 hours, we left the restaurant. We just ordered wine and it was not good quality for the price.

PRO: • Perfect location (right across street from the monastery) for exploring this beautiful town • Common areas and bar are very classic and maintained nicely • Friendly front desk staff CON: • Street noise all night long (including hotel staff emptying bins around 2am) • Small rooms with low ceilings on top floor (had to bend over just to get to closet and desk) • Extremely hard beds • Had to pay 10€ deposit for the TV remote. No TV channels in English. • The hotel food was consistently awful at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Straight from cans or frozen, and not prepared well. Wait staff is overworked.

This is an old fashioned budget hotel located in the heart of San Lorenzo de El Escorial just a 4-minute walk from massive Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a World Heritage site and one of the historical residences of the King of Spain. The room itself was a good size and with air conditioning. As other reviewers have remarked the furniture was a bit spartan, the wooden floors cracked, and the bed was quite hard, but the bathroom facilities were good, and hair dryer included. The breakfast was adequate - appetite reduced by the heat! WiFi did reach our room, but only on an intermittent basis but worked in the lobby. There is easy access to shopping and many tourist attractions within walking distance, including the adjacent Coliseo de Carlos III Theater, a gof club about 20 minutes away and friars' Garden and Prince's House also.

We came here about 1 pm after a tour of the Escorial, at the recommendation of our tour guide. The main dining room wasn't open yet, but we were able to get a tasty lunch in the more informal bar. Service was attentive and speedy, especially for Spain. It's a convenient and reasonably priced place to eat near the monastery.

I admit that I was somewhat reluctant to book here after reading reviews. But I thought the location was perfect and we would take a chance. We are glad we did! It was fun walking into a hotel in the middle of Spain and hearing polka music:-) Mario and the other front desk clerk were very courteous and helpful. It seemed obvious that management was on track to correct any issues of the past. The public area was neat and clean. We chose a basic room. The hardwood floors in the halls and our room appeared recently refinished. The room was spacious and the furnishings were basic. The bed was comfortable. This is a budget to mid-range hotel, don't expect 5 star amenities. We felt very comfortable here and would stay here again. The location is perfect! One block to the Monastery. Dining and shopping are all around the hotel. The hotel provides discounted public parking 2 blocks away.
