I've stayed at the Westin Galleria many a time for dance competitions, business meetings, and for pleasure. Reflecting on my most recent visit, there are a few things I think travelers should know about this hotel:

Location and a Note on the Westin Oaks:
In my opinion, this hotel has the best location out of all of them around the Galleria. It's directly connected to mall, surrounded by the more "luxury" section of the mall. It's rather confusing for visitors to really know what the difference between this hotel and the Westin Oaks is. Note that they are not the same hotel, and are on two completely opposite ends of the Galleria. As a Westin Representative told me:
"The Westin Oaks is more family oriented, while the Westin Galleria is more for businessman or professionals."
I would say that this is pretty accurate. This place is not as well suited for families as the Westin Oaks in my opinion.

The Convention Center:
While this place has a great convention center, it's truly all over the place, and can be very difficult to navigate. It's almost located in two separate buildings, and you have to sprint across multiple floors and escalators to make it from session to session.

If you're planning on staying here for pleasure, do yourself a favor and make sure there is *not* a dance convention happening during your stay. As someone who's competed in many of these events, I know that it is absolute chaos during those weekends. I feel so bad for the visitors who have to wait hours to catch an elevator, wait hours to get food from the food court, or deal with the screaming kids in the hallway at 12 AM (when the convention gets out). These often happen from October - April. In my opinion, the only reason you should deal with the madness is if you are attending the convention itself. If not, please stay away!

Room:
This is a very typical Westin room. I would probably rate the room "average" for the Westin. The bathroom door in my room didn't lock or close, and their two queen rooms would not fit a group of more than 3 well. If you're a business professional traveling alone for work, it's great, but if you need some extra space in your room, I'd recommend checking out somewhere else.

Customer Service:
It's typical for a Westin (which is a good thing) - It's kind, professional, and quick. The only problem I've ever had was when I booked this hotel with hotels.com, they claimed they didn't see my reservation, and I had to pull out my printed receipts. Not a great way to start out my trip. If you're going to book this hotel with a third party site, definitely bring a printed copy of your reservation just in case they lose yours like they did mine.

Overall, it's a solid, clean, good hotel. There is nothing amazing or outstanding about this hotel other than its location, but is very suitable for a business or personal trip with a loved one. If you're a couple or solo traveler looking to enjoy the Galleria for a weekend, as long as there isn't a convention going on, it's a lovely place to stay.

Greetings Nikolais; Thank you for sharing your observations about the two hotels. I was delighted to read that you have been a very loyal supporter of the hotels for many many years, and I am very grateful for you sharing your insights about these two iconic hotels and how they differ. There is one more key difference between each of the hotels that I wanted to mention. The Westin Oaks is one of the only Westin Hotels in North America that features KING beds in all of its guestrooms, the oversized rooms at the Westin Oaks have allowed us to feature TWO KING BEDS in all of our two bedded rooms, these are not only very unique but very popular! The Westin Galleria features a different bed type configuration with the rooms at this hotel with two beds featuring two queen beds. Be Well

This is a nice place to stay. Room was clean and comfortable. Big fancy walk in shower with rainfall shower head and no doors (just a single curtain) Great but water runs all over the bathroom. Happy it's not in my house, but the Engineering Dept at the hotel must hate these showers as they are bound to cause issues in the long run. The Daily Grill which is the hotel restaurant is located in a very strange place- It's in the mall. Such an awkward place to have to go to eat in the hotel's dining room, but it is worth the weird location as the food is absolutely a 4 out of 5. Do not order a margarita at the bar though. The bartender gave me a top shelf marg on the rocks in a cocktail glass. He obviously had no idea how to make Texas' most sold drink. It was an absolute travesty that cost $17. Ridiculous! Train your employees please. If you don't want to try to find the weird location of the restaurant just dial up room service and Andrea will take good care of you. She delivers directly to your room with no tip required. The very best thing about this hotel is Shirley the concierge. She is amazing and will go above and beyond. Hey hotel GM, give her a promotion and a raise! She is the only thing making your hotel worth a return stay. Otherwise, there are 15 other nicer properties in Houston to spend your hard earned money on.

Great for a shopping trip to the galleria. Clean hotel. Helpful staff. The rooms are average, nothing special. Housekeeping isn't automatic it's only available upon request. I requested housekeeping every day at check in but got it only once. COVID is a poor excuse to not offer housekeeping automatically. I would rate it 3 stars but the location is good.

Greetings; thank you for the feedback, I was delighted to read that you enjoyed your most recent shopping experience, the hotel is attached to the Galleria which is one of the largest malls in the USA featuring over 400 stores, our guests love the convenience of having all that the Galleria has to offer right at their door step. For the safety of our guests and associates and in order to limit in-person contact we are now providing housekeeping service on a "request only" basis. The feedback from our guests about the "request only" service has been very well received and many appreciate being able to make a decision on the level of in-person contact they experience while a guest. I can assure you that we typically do a great job servicing our guests, I apologize for the miss on this occasion. Be Well

The Weston Gallaria Houston is in a great location connected to the Mall, the area is safe to walk around with loads of restaurants on your doorstep. We found this area to be preferable to downtown, which we didn’t really like at all.
The hotel itself is clean, modern and bright, and the rooms are nicely furnished and surprisingly large, with a king size bed and a corner sofa fitting quite easily into the space.
The staff at the hotel were not particularly friendly, from the valet guy at arrival, to the girl who checked us in, no one went out of their way to make you feel welcome, not even a hello as we passed the front desk everyday for four days.
This being said I would still stay here again for the great location, the nice rooms and the free parking.

Greetings; I was delighted to read that your Galleria experience was an enjoyable one. The Galleria features over 400 stores and many fabulous destination restaurants, the area is very walkable and is an extremely popular destination with visitors to Houston along with local area residents. I do apologize that the teams interactions were not at the levels that we typically achieve, the Front Desk & Valets typically get very high marks from our guests about their attention to detail and for their extra efforts to make each of our guests feel welcome. I do hope we'll have the opportunity to host your return visit to the area, I am confident that your next experience will be more reflective of our traditional service levels. Be Well

The hotel is very good and the service great. However the small details are not taken care off. I understand the new challenges because the pandemia, but to put so cheap cups in a hotel like this is disappointing. There are cups a lot better, still one use, and the cost maybe is 30 cents more. Also I request a dental kit, I have received better in hotels way less qualities, and again the cost of having something better is minimal.
Two bottles of water in the room which is good. I love the tendency of having a small empty refrigerator which you can fill with whatever you like, but the store at the lobby is not very good. However getting into the mall there is a very good convenient store.

Greetings; I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay, the team works very hard to make each of our guests visits an enjoyable one. We have had to make some temporary adjustments within our operations as a result of COVID-19 and did remove all glassware from the guestrooms and replaced them with disposable products. I am grateful for your observations about these disposable cups and will ask our team to source alternatives. I was pleased to read that you did appreciate the two complimentary bottles of water in the room and that you found the mini fridge in the room very convenient. Our gift shop does carry a great many convenience items but is limited to what we are able to provide due to space constraints, being attached to one of the LARGEST malls in the USA has been very well received by our guests as any item we don't stock is readily available from the mall. Be Well

The hotel was nice, but the staff was rude and overall awful. I valeted my vehicle the night before and sent a valet request first thing in the morning since I had an early morning meeting. I sent a text and received notification my vehicle was ready. I headed downstairs, handed the valet attendant my valet stub. He asked for my name which I verified. He then requested my room number which I did not take note of. He then told me he could not provide my vehicle without a room number. I offered to show him my identification and he refused. I was then forced to go inside to the front desk and had to wait in line for about 15 minutes while the front desk helping another customer. At this point I was running late and lady behind the desk how I was doing, my response "not well, I'm running late since you will not give me my vehicle". Her response "You don't know me!". I literally almost laughed out loud, because her response was so unexpected. Finally after verifying my room number they finally released my car. I would have let it go at this point, but I just got my bill and the valet charged me for 3 nights valet OVER $100 and I only stayed ONE night. These guys need some serious training and do not reflect the typical service you should get at a Westin or anything that is a part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.

Greetings Alan; thank you for finding the time to share your most recent experiences, while we love seeing positive comments from our guests we are also very grateful and very reliant on constructive feedback from our valued guests. I was delighted to read that you found the recently renovated hotel a positive, however was very disappointed to read about the interactions with our valet parking. I appreciate the insights as it has allowed us to provide some immediate coaching to ensure we are better executing our service levels in this area. I have asked that the charges from the incorrect valet charges be immediately removed. Although it is difficult to believe, your most recent experience does not in any way represent the level of service that the teams regularly provide, each member takes great pride in making each of our guests experiences a memorable one and we typically see very positive comments from our guests about our service levels. I do sincerely apologize for the miss-step on our part and do hope we will see you returning again in the very near future as I can assure you that your next visit will be far more indicative of our usual levels of service. Be Well

Opted to stay in the vibrant area and this particular hotel because it was connected to the Galleria Mall. At 195USD a night any guest would have expected more, but then again, looking at guest reviews online, we should have been forewarned. It would have been wiser and much cheaper to stay at the White Oaks Galleria Westin with a much lesser room rate.

Why the low rating? A couple of reasons:
1. Reception/Check-In was a mob scene. There was no order and no particular attention given to Bonvoy members.
2. Reception Associate made no mention of or thank me for Titanium Elite for Life status.
3. It was as if we were on a scavenger hunt. At one point, we came down and had to ask if there were an executive lounge (there is but extremely limited service and offerings).
4. In the morning, again, we had to go back down to the desk and find breakfast options. Why weren't we told at check-in of the courtesy card for the diner in the mall given to elite members?
5. The room is not well-suited for the business traveler. It lacks proper resources for charging technology.

Greetings Patrick; it is always a great disappointment to me & our team whenever we fail to deliver the service levels that we are known for, it is of particular concern to let down one of our loyal & valued customers. Your right the weekend you stayed was EXTREMELY busy and we struggled to meet the demands, no excuses, we were overwhelmed! I promise you that we have made significant staffing adjustments over the past couple weeks and are now much better prepared to meet & exceed our guests service expectations. Please accept my sincere apologies for the miss-steps, come back and visit and I promise you will experience a visit far more reflective of our true abilities. Be Well

A good hotel and friendly hotel staff. The hotel and rooms are clean, comfortable and nice.
Big beds and quick elevators are a plus. There is no extra bedding in the room and minimal bath towels. This hotel is attached to the mall so there is no room service and the wifi is not the best. There needs to be a map of the hotel and where to park because even though it's connected to the mall there are at least 3 garages to park in and upon arrival and check in the directions of parking and where to enter closest to the hotel are horrible, unless you've been here before.

Greetings Jennifer; thank you for finding the time to share your most recent experiences. I was delighted to read that you enjoyed the hotel and found the team to be very friendly. The Westin Galleria is one of the only hotels in the Galleria area that provides "free self-parking", we do share parking with the Galleria Mall, there are numerous parking garages throughout the Galleria and it can be confusing to navigate all the options to find the one most convenient to the Hotel. Our valet teams are always delighted to help our guests find the closet and most convenient parking for the hotel which is typically the Brown Garage located right next to the hotel I did have the teams investigate the WiFi challenges you experienced and we did find a router that needed re-booting which was causing slower speeds in your guestroom, we have very good Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and I can assure you your most recent experience is not indicative of our typical connectivity speeds. I do hope we will see you back at the hotel in very near future. Be Well

Decent room with no problems. If you are not aware, this hotel is connected directly to the Galleria. Prices are very high, and some of the extra taxes and fees are suspect ($53 in taxes and fees on a $297 room). One plus is that parking in the Brown garage is free, and we had no problems finding a space (during midweek). The Galleria currently has no problem with empty stores; we didn't see a single one. The hotel's restaurant (Daily Grill) is not in the hotel, it's in the mall. There's also a Cheesecake Factory in the mall, with a small Mexican restaurant, a couple of higher-level French restaurants, a steakhouse, and five or six fast-food establishments on the lower level.

Greetings Steve; thank you for finding time to share your comments. Hotels in TEXAS are required by law to charge a total of 17% in taxes on the room rate, it is a combination of County Tax, City Tax & Tourism Tax. I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your overall experience. The Westin Galleria does provide complimentary self-parking in the adjacent mall garages which many of our guests do find very convenient. The parking garages do get very busy on the weekends as we share the garages with the mall patrons. The Galleria Mall continues to be one of the top destinations in Houston's it is very popular with local Houstonian's and with visitors to Houston. The Galleria features over 400 stores making it one of the largest malls in the country, there is an abundance of fantastic restaurants all within walking distance which make it very convenient for our guests who are able to experience all that the Galleria has to offer right at the doorstep of the Westin.
