My recent stay at this hotel warrants only an average rating. Check-in was efficient and professional. The hotel has a very good location halfway between Downtown Houston and the Galleria area with its numerous shops and virtually unlimited dining options. Although located directly on the main thoroughfare Southwest Freeway (US59/I-69), noise was not noticeable in my 6th floor room and the bed was quite comfortable. Internet also performed well with acceptable speeds. On the first morning, the shower was lukewarm at best. The staff promptly responded to my complaint, and the building engineer advised he had increased the temperature, whereby within minutes of his representation, the water was indeed very hot. However, the next morning the same problem returned. Hot water appears to only be available upon request at this hotel. I left my room for the day at 11AM and returned at 5PM, yet it had not been cleaned, and housekeeping was reportedly gone for the day, but I was provided with ample fresh towels. The gym is basic and should be adequate for most workouts, as it was well maintained with treadmills, elliptical trainers, bikes, and dumbbells up to 50lbs., but the drinking water machine was non-functional and I was advised by an employee that water was no longer provided in the gym, although at least towels were provided. My card access key failed at least once a day during my requiring a trip to the Front Desk, but this is admittedly not unique to those hotels who use this system. On the positive side, the buffet breakfast was above average and there was an omelet bar for custom orders. There were no major problems and the room rate of $120.00 was reasonable, but in light of its numerous minor problems, average is a fair rating.

Jawanza was so amazing. We came for the HLSR jr. heifer show and we had been up for over 24 hrs. She arrived on shift at 7 and by 7:45 she called and told me she had us a room ready. She went above and beyond.

This place shut down for covid, and hasn’t been seen for the past two years. I thought I was glad to see it back open, but after staying with them just one night I elected to go somewhere else. My guest room had been completely renovated and everything in there was new and working right. It wouldn’t hurt them to replace the ceiling tiles in the bathroom where the paint is peeling, but that’s minor.

I took issue with them claiming to have a restaurant, except they don’t have any food. The only thing offered was one pizza and one hamburger at an exorbitant price. They were having breakfast, but since I like to get going by 6 AM I didn’t patronize the place. The garage elevators were not working making getting one’s bags in the building painfully difficult. The business center was closed which is very important to me. The gift shop was missing as well, and some other amenities I could not identify but were covered with construction materials. In short, the place has barely come back to life and they have a long road ahead.

That didn’t stop them from charging me full service pricing on a hotel with less than half the expected services to be working. I had one mixed drink in the bar and that too was priced over the top. Between the construction, missing amenities, and general disheveled appearance I elected to spend a lot less money somewhere else and bid them farewell.

In their present condition I don’t recommend the place. It does need a complete new face which is underway. Still, the pricing is that of a full service hotel, and I sure didn’t get that. I will probably be back as I have used them for many years, but not in this condition. It’s all about location, location, location, and the hotel just West of them now has construction fences around it as well, and is vacant.

Hi Arnold (love the reference!) You raised a valid point in your review on our restaurant and we wanted you to know we listened. Our menu expanded significantly and while still 48 pages smaller than a Cheesecake Factory, there is considerably more selection. Thank you for helping us improve and we hope to see you again soon!

Holy Cow, this is absolutely the worst hotel that I could have imagined staying in for this trip to Houston. When choosing a hotel, I am quite selective and my experience has told me that Crown Plaza hotels are generally nice. I was wrong, horribly & terribly wrong.

The first night, I was tired, so I was able to ignore the fact that the staff was rude, the room was less than satisfactory and the advertised amenities were absent, however, upon returning to this dump for the second night, I was less than pleased to discover that my already substandard room had been cleaned by someone that forgot to replace the towels after taking the dirty ones and left no ice bucket. (The ice situation is already a disaster since the one on this floor is broken as is the one on the floor above me.)

I decided that it was time to get help from the front desk so I headed downstairs in one of the death trap elevators. (Pictures to follow.) Once I was able to gain the desk agents attention, (she was watching something incredibly interesting on her phone in the back room) she told me that I would have to wait until morning when a Manager arrived to get assistance with my concerns. I suppose I will use the blow dryer to dry off in the morning after my shower so I can talk to the manager.... that is convenient, isn't it?

So, if you have a preference for a quality hotel, I would advise that you not book here. You might be more comfortable sleeping in your car. Based on my experience showering in your car would be just as easy as it is here at the Crown Plaza. (If you are in your car it would certainly be easier to get ice!)

Lackluster and inconsiderate staff, shoddy facilities, death trap elevators and advertised amenities that don't exist are solid proof that IHG Hotels do not enforce any sort of quality standards and do not monitor the quality of the properties that display the Crown Plaza name. That being considered, once I have successfully dried off with the blow dryer in the morning, I am going to see if I can hang a Crown Plaza sign on my shed and book reservations through IHG for a profit. I actually feel like my shed is just as nice, if not nicer than this Crown Plaza location.

So they charge service animals a cleaning fee, which is illegal for one. When you tell them that at the front they have an attitude. The door to get inside from the parking garage is locked after 9pm so you have to walk all the around and try not to get hit by a car . The business center is closed. Absolutely ridiculous will never stay in crown plaza again

I'm sorry we let you down Kayleem889 - that's not acceptable and I apologize. Service animals are not subject to the pet fee and given that you made us aware during check in, the deposit should have been waived. Our team members have received additional training to ensure those relying on service animals don't suffer the same experience The garage door is locked for our guests safety after hours and as you no doubt saw, someone vandalized the key pad that enables our guests to use their key card for entry after hours. Repairs are expected to be completed this week. I know It's an aggravation for our guests and our team. We've tried calling the telephone number on file and have not received an answer nor voice mail. Will you kindly message me with your phone number so I may set this right? jay.primavera@CrowneHouston.com

I understand the restrictions for covid, but why paying prices for a Crowne Plaza if they do not service the rooms, there is no food or bevarage service in premises, if I can go to an extended stay across the street and have the same thing for halfe of price? Not even a bottle of water in the room or nowhere in the hotel to get it. There is a store but it is closed. Their solution? Go to the gas station to buy it.
I was using a free room certificate for one of the four nights I stayed, had to do a date modification but Brenda told me was perfectly ok. Well I was charged for the four nights. The manager, Johanze, was rude abd un-supportive. Never again in this hotel.

This place is a nightmare. Due to a convention in the city there are no rooms available near the downtown area. If rooms were available I would have immediately left the minute I walked into my room. The room is a throw back to the 1970s with a need for renovations. The toilet is slow to flush and there are broken pieces room. The bathroom ceiling is filthy. The ice machine on my floor is inoperable and dirty. This was not revealed at check in. I went to the lobby and asked where can I get ice. I was told floor 10 and 17. Based on the look of the machine on my floor, I was not comfortable getting ice from the machines. I was then told the bar can give me ice. I went to the bar; asked the bartender for ice. He came back with a plastic container with no plastic insert. I declined. The parking garage elevator us inoperable. I identified a nationally recognized chain hotel with certain expectations. I was fooled and will never stay or recommend it to anyone. #1970 #renovatenow

While in Houston for a night we stayed at the this older but very nice Crowne Plaza. The location was perfect for getting to the two restaurants (Kenny and Ziggy’s NY Delicatessen and Grace’s Southern Cooking—both excellent) we wanted to try and to the NRG Center for an event. The lobby was clean and well appointed and staff were very nice. We needed a cart for our luggage as I was in a wheelchair, but none were available. Another check in guest noticed our situation and quickly went up, unloaded and returned a cart. Very nice. The plain room was quite clean, a good size and everything functioned well. Don’t expect to find an ice machine however. The mattress was somewhat old but comfortable enough. We did see them loading up on new mattresses however. All in all this was a clean, safe and well run hotel. We would stay here again when in Houston.
