The afternoon tea was good, with fresh little sandwiches and pretty good pastries. The scone was flaky and buttery, but the tea itself (when the server finally came around to serve it) was flavorless. So, though the food was good, the service was not
We had an enjoyable stay during a business trip to Texas with very nice staff members welcoming us. The restaurant and bar menus were great and the staff very fast, friendly and guest oriented, a big thanks to Mrs. Marta who provided us with a delicious dinner on the beautiful terrace.
Used to stay here often. Put them on hiatus the last year given issues with service and, frankly, cost. I left after a few nights this time due to cost and the absence of heat in the lobby/bar area. The bar/lounge is super comfortable but was literally unusable this time. Granted it was in the 20's in Houston that week, but with two double doors in the main lobby which is adjacent to the bar/lounge, it was absurdly cold. There are one-inch gaps in the front doors letting in all the cold. Were I a desk attendant, I would have refused to work in such cold. Restaurant and bar are excellent. Food is excellent and staff is friendly. I would counsel the chef not to freeze his panna cotta, however. Ever present problem with getting the mini-bar replenished. Business center is limited to a couple of computers and a printer. I always have to ask the front desk for help in scanning documents. They always go out of their way to help. Bottom line, despite a great location, excellent comfortable atmosphere, great restaurant and staff, the price works against this place. …
Carlos did an excellent job of taking care of our needs (ably assisted by Calvin). Sandwiches, sweets, and tea were very good and enjoyed by all in our party of three. Service was excellent without being intrusive or hovering. Loved the atmosphere looking out on the back landscaping and pool.
I really loved staying at Granduca! Yes, I only gave it 4 stars because the furnishings were pretty tired and worn, however, the place was super clean! We stayed the 4th July weekend and it seemed like we were one of about 5 guest rooms that occupied the place. On the 4th of July we were almost the only people at the pool. It was great to practically have the place to ourselves. We ate breakfast one morning and it was very good!! All of the food was fresh and we had a delicious pot of coffee. Everything that we ordered from the bar was well balanced and refreshing. By the pool I had Aperol Spritz’s and they were perfect! They offer a yummy watermelon caprese and a very good fruit cup. The bartenders and servers were all super friendly. We stayed in a suite that had a kitchenette. We didn’t need/use it but it was nice to have a refrigerator for some bottled water. I was a bit disappointed that when my husband went down to the breakfast area he ordered a pot of coffee to take to the room but he was told there were not enough coffee pots to take one to the room. I thought that was interesting because as I said occupancy was super low. There were only about 5 cars in the parking lot.…
I travel to Houston about 4 days every other week. So understand that is close to 100 days a year. At 400-500 a night that’s not chump change and should be something worthy of a repeat or loyal customer rating. The first few trips I was acceptable of the poor services and the poor room location in the building. As I repeated trips I asked to be booked in a better location (nothing significant just a higher room and simply to not look at the building dumpster) and in such I asked for a proper way to book and recognize my loyalty to this aging property. I had stayed at other Giorgio properties over the years in my thousands of nights “on the road” and had some great experiences. I didn’t overly chose this hotel it just happens to be very convenient to my destination and of course a LHW. Well, after 6-7 visits I actually got “pissed” as I received another dumpster room. The property has about 122 rooms of which maybe…10?? look at the dumpster? I did not pick the “ada” or cheep room. AMEX books a suite…..I was told my reservations all come in under different profiles and they don’t know my preferences. Well, same AMEX card for 30 years so not sure how they can’t track profiles. Do they even have a way to track? I have book through AMEX travel for the last 20 plus years. Anyway. Get your act together or lose 100 days a year. I will give it one more chance in two weeks otherwise there are many, many other point earning options in Houston as close to good food and good activities. Without change this aging property will die on the vine. As a LHW member I think I’ll reach out to them as well-but by no means are they really LHW anyway as that is a pay to participate program. Rooms are larger and with 4-5 days in a hotel I do like the space. But I’ll give up space for some respect and service very soon. Good luck Georgio.…
I totally agree with the last few bad reviews. I was looking forward to a unique, 5 star stay at this hotel but what I got was poor service, the run around, a dated old environment and no sleep. Any small sound in the hallway is heard in the room. That’s not ideal but livable. But when someone is out of control in the hallway, someone should intervene. A woman, angry with some man, was yelling at him on her cell phone for 2 1/2 hours in the hallway outside my door from 11:30pm-2:00am. I called the front desk several times as it was impossible to sleep. I was told security was notified and would be up. No one ever came! I asked the receptionist the next morning what happened. She said that management was aware of the situation. I asked to have the manager call me but never heard anything. The next morning, at checkout, I again inquired as to compensation and to speak with the manager. I was told no manager was available and that the front desk could not assist me. I asked for a copy of my bill and was told I wouldn’t be receiving one because I had pre-paid. I was worried because, upon checking in, the housekeeper Zane into the room to make sure the mini bar and items on the table had not been used because, if so, I might be charged for them. Just crazy. In addition, the bed frame in my room was loose and must have put a hole in the wall. Instead of patching it, they tacked a piece of plywood to the hole. The headboard was still broken and the plywood looked ridiculous and served no purpose. Obviously, the hotel cares nothing about their guests. I do not blame them for unruly guests but I do blame them for taking no action. Had there been a true emergency, nothing would have been done. Just an awful stay at an old, run down hotel.…
As a member of the Leading Hotels Worldwide Group, I was looking forward to a good stay in the Hotel Granduca. I picked the hotel specifically because of LHW reputation. Sadly, nothing about the stay was up to par. Apart from the staff, who were kind, enthusiastic and polite. The room was extremely expensive, and a little tired. On top of that, there’s 4 sets of taxes to pay. The hotel was also tired. I was reassured that breakfast was complimentary as I’m a LHW member. Not the case. I got a $23 credit. But when a 3-egg omelette costs $18. And additional two eggs costs $10, a side salad costs $15, and an Americano costs $7, breakfast was coming to north of $53 every day. I was supposed to stay a week. I called it a day after two nights given the alternatives around Houston. As mentioned, the staff were lovely, a redeeming part of my brief stay. Thank you Alba for making breakfast a pleasant experience. MK…
My family arrived early and were told our room wasn’t ready and they would have housekeeping work on it. One hour later we were told the same thing. Fast forward 3 hours later, my two kids, my husband and I are STILL waiting in the gym with nowhere to go. It’s 2:45pm. I understand hotels have check in policies but this is an off weekend and this hotel is empty. I can guarantee the room is ready and they’re just not wanting to help us. Even if it weren’t, it doesn’t take 3 hours to get a room cleaned. They should have compassion that we have kids with us. I would understand if they were busy but they’re not and they’re not even apologetic about it either. For the amount of money this hotel charges you would think they would have better customer service. Won’t be coming back.
Alba amazing It is difficult to describe such a well scripted dinning experience on Wednesday evening. The food The staff The wine list The presentation The decor The Chef!! Very talented A very memorable evening.
