Stayed here twice, now. Very nice Hilton Garden Inn that's not too dissimilar from any others. Very clean and staff was easy going. Easy, albeit confusing, access to the freeway. Isn't as close to downtown, Melrose, or the museum district but still not difficult to get there and can get there without tolls.

I booked a room at the last minute and didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. It's more like a Hilton than a Hilton Garden Inn. The room was big and everything was modern. Yes, the tv is a little older but it worked fine and had an on-screen guide so you could find what to watch. I like they had a Keruig maker with Coffee Tea and Community Coffee. All was great until 9:30 pm when the thermostat started to flash E4 and a red light came on. I called the front desk who immediately let me know it is the unit on the roof. She told me a man from Laredo was due next week with parts to fix it. This tells me this is a common issue so be aware. The front desk clerk not only went to a new room and turned on the AC to check it she brought the new keys to my room and offered to bring a luggage cart to assist with the move. I only had 1 suitcase so it was not a big issue. I was totally impressed with the customer service. I moved from the top floor to one 2 floors below. I was afraid of noise but there was none. As a Diamond member, I was given a $10 credit to use for food or beverage. This included the bar. The Bud Light on draft was only $5 and was huge. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 complementary drinks. If you decide to use the $10 for breakfast be aware it is only for the continental breakfast you will need to pay extra for hot food. I heard it was not much more. I will definitly be returning.

Stayed here for a wedding in the general area. Hotel was nice. The only problem I had was the incorrect hours posted for breakfast. Several people came down for breakfast thinking it was served until 10am. We learned that was only for weekends. Normal serving hours are until 9.

This was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Upon arriving, the girl at the front desk seemed rude and unwelcoming. She did not seem to like customer service. You could see that the furniture in the entry way was soiled, and it didn't look nice to sit on. When walking down the hallway, you could smell smoke even though we had a no smoking room. Even our child asked, "why does it smell bad?". The carpet had raises in it in the hallway, and there was no sign to avoid tripping.
Once we arrived in the room, there were not enough towels for the number of people in the room, so we had to ask for more. There also wasn't a comforter or blanket in the room for the pull out couch (which we were using for my daughter). We went to ask the front desk for a comforter or blanket, and they didn't have any. We ended up having to borrow one from friends who live in the area. The white comforter in the room was discolored and uninviting, and the sheets were torn (see pictures). The walls were dirty, and there appeared to be mold in the shower. The floor did not look clean, and we felt like we had to wear shoes the whole time. The walls were dusty (see picture) and the lampshade, fold out mattress, and other parts of the room looked poorly taken care of. In general, we felt gross in the room. We had asked ahead of time for a pack and play for our baby and we were told they had them. When we requested it upon arrival, it took them a long time because they weren't sure they had one. When it was dropped in our room, it was covered in some sort of brown liquid, and we were unable to use it.
My husband is a Hilton Reward member and frequently stays at Hiltons. He usually has a good experience, but this was not at all.
I do need to point out the few positive things. The girl who checked us out was very nice and professional compared to the other girl who was working the desk most of our stay. She helped us to check out early due to the hurricane without a penalty and was very accommodating to us. There was also a very nice lady in the food service area in the morning who talked to my daughter.
The actual location didn't feel any less safe than most of Houston, but the hotel experience was awful. We had such a bad experience that we almost considered requesting a refund, but we didn't want to go through the hassle.

When we made it into our double queen room the fridge had red drink wasted all over it. Also was dirty towels hanging in the shower. I called the front desk, the blonde lady with short thin hair stated she get a housekeeper to come take care of it, instead of giving us another room. After I went to front desk was told by the same lady I could get breakfast for two during my stay it would be put in the computer. Went down for my breakfast two days later wasn’t any documentation about the free breakfast. The Indian man at the front desk said we could wait until the manager came in at a later time for approval, but I was already getting ready to check out, so I didn’t get my free breakfast for two.

Hotel room was clean, but noisy from loud people in next room. Otherwise comfortable. Check-in was easy with Hilton App; digital check-in and door locks. While breakfast was good and fast, we were disappointed that Hilton has reduced the free breakfast benefit for Diamond/Gold members to an allowance of $10 per person up to $20. And then, this was not applied to our billing, so I had to call back, but could not call directly to hotel front desk and had to work through corporate customer service, who had to call hotel ... still unresolved! I am pretty sure that the billing will eventually be corrected, but it should not take 20 minutes waiting on the phone and still not fixed.

Hilton Garden Inn is one of my go to brands when I travel (50 weeks a year I'm on the road 3 or more nights). The hotel design, amenities, and locations have always been pretty darned consistent and the hotels have had some of my favorite personalities in customer-facing positions. This HGI was recommended by a colleague who is a frequent visitor to Houston. He did mention that he had begun staying a few miles a away recently because he'd had a bad experience here. He thought, for our group, it was the best choice though. Check-in was a minimalist experience. The young clerk told us almost nothing of the usual spiel: brekfast, fitness center, restaurant/bar, "thank you for being a Hilton Diamond Member", you know the spiel. He didn't ask me how many keys I'd like so I only got one. The AC is apparently controlled from the front desk, so if you aren't comfortable in your room, you have to call the desk and tell them what temperature you'd like your room to be, and they'll set it from the desk. Think about that from the standpoint of customer service or from the freedom aspect. How insulting. Then, with all four treadmills in the fitness center inoperative the next morning, I was pretty certain that was strike three. The hotel is just not run well. This is why I am asking has Hilton allowed the standards of service to slip at HGI (or maybe just this HGI). I called during the day and asked to speak to the General Manager. I got her voicemail and I told her I'd like to receive a call back to discuss whether at least one treadmill would be working the next morning. One was, but I never received the call back, so I'll give 25% credit for that interaction. The call was more important to me than the treadmill. Disappointing.

Ok for a business hotel. Would never stay here with family. The rooms are showing excessive wear and tear. Couches are dirty and dirt stains on the rugs. I had to change rooms because the first one smelled too moldy, so they did move me to a nicer one that didn’t have the same moldy smell. Staff is attentive and friendly. Restaurant staff are all superb and do a great job. I would stay here again for business only but the hotel rooms can certainly use a refresh update.

You have no control over the temperature of your room which is lots of fun in humid Houston. You’ll get the run around from the front desk and they’ll ask you what you want it set at, but you don’t get it. You may come back to an 88 degree room like I did one day. I have never stayed at a hotel let alone a Hilton property that I can’t control the temperature of my room. This was in March. I can’t imagine how awful it’d be in the summer.

Start with the positives - rooms are fine, not the most recent updates but it's OK and clean. Breakfast service was good and attentive. Food was typical HGI which is fine for me and always better than Hampton or Homewood. Negatives - fitness room had at least 3 machines out of order. Hot water for an evening shower was not available. It was lukewarm at best. Coffee service in room was sub-par. Maxwell House? I think I remember my grandparents drinking that. Cheap little cups to burn your hand with and no insulating sleeve. Seems cost cutting is the game here. It's not horrible but it's just OK and not best representation of the HGI brand. Hope management gives it some thought.
