If you are visiting someone at the University of Houston, do not stay at this on campus hotel. You’ll be much happier if you book with an inexpensive hotel and drive into campus, because this place was a comedy of errors. But it sure wasn’t funny at the time. When the young student who appeared to be the only staff member working at the hotel gave us a room, that he said was a little difficult to find and not close to the elevators, as we had requested, he tried to give us a different room and said the computer system wouldn’t let him change it. So we offered to go to the room and let him know if the distance to the elevators was managable. It was, but barely. He also said it was an accessible room. The only nod to accessibility was handrails in the bathtub. In the early evening after we’d had dinner, we tried to bring the room temp up above 66 degrees. No luck, so we called the desk. Who came to help us was the young man from the check-in desk. He fussed with the thermostat and left, but the room temp remained where it was. When I called back, he came up again and explained that everyone else had gone home, so he was the only one to help us. He still couldn’t get the thermostat to work, so he got us some extra blankets to wrap up in. The next morning the staffer at the desk said she would have maintenance come up while we were doing our meetings at the University, but asked right away if we’d like another room if they couldn’t fix it. We said no because we’d be back late afternoon and leaving early the next morning. The hassle didn’t seem worth it. When we returned that afternoon, not only was the heat not working any better, but there had been no maid service. When we asked about that at the front desk, they said we had to request it. It wasn’t an automatic service. We hadn’t been told that. She did offer us a space heater since the room was so cold Finally, the elevator from the parking garage was out of order (with no sign posted!), so two of us who are disabled had to navigate a steep, deserted, dirty staircase to get the lobby. The next morning, we had to use another elevator, far from the car, to get our luggage to the parking garage. Although we did contact the General Manager to request a refund, he was not helpful. After hearing our litany of problems, he reluctantly gave us a $100 refund. We were relieved to say goodbye to this hotel. It was shabby, service was terrible, and many things were out of order. It seemed deserted and almost spooky. That’s a lot of problems for a room that cost us more than $500 for two nights. …
This was one of the best Hilton experiences I’ve had. As a former diamond level HH, I have been to plenty of Hilton locations around the world. This hotel is kept impeccably clean and the rooms are in great shape with pleasing decor that is not all chipped, worn out and out of date. Climate control worked vey well and it was easy to adjust. There is a high level of tech here, one of the only digital keys I’ve used that actually worked flawlessly. The TV has apps installed to let you use your iPhone to control the TV or stream music to the TV speakers. Wi-Fi reception was excellent and they still have plug-in Ethernet cables too. Again, no glitches with that tech either. Bedding was comfortable and the bathroom highly functional with a large glassed-in shower stall; so no icky shower curtain clinging to you while bathing. Very nice assortment of C&E toiletries, fluffy bath towels, no face cloth (why?). Other amenities are pretty basic, plenty of outlets built-in to the table lamps, mini-coffee maker, ice bucket (ice is on the 5th and 7th levels only), no mini-fridge. The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch. Both times I had breakfast there it was very well prepared, exactly how I had ordered it and served piping hot. There are several places to eat and drink on campus within a short walking distance from the hotel. I was here between semesters, so not everything was open with full hours (plus the pandemic). Downtown is easily accessible by car or ride share either via highways or surface streets (Houston traffic is notoriously bad). Caveat: as of May 2021, the hotel is under construction on the southeast side of the building. It never disturbed my stay, but I was on the 8th floor on the opposite side of the work being done. Even numbered rooms face the west, so you have a nice view of downtown and the Med Center. Best to call the hotel and ask for a quieter location until its completed in 2022. If I ever need to visit Houston, I will definitely stay here again.…
The hotel room has a horrible smell. It smells as if someone threw up and pooped in here 😷. Not what we were expecting at all. We thought the smell would go away but it is just musty and gross. We do not recommend.
Very impressed with the attentiveness of the staff. Texted me on arrival to see if the room was as expected. Nicely appointed room but no internet. Two nice tech guys showed up to fix the modem but it was kaput. Didn’t have equipment to replace it so I had to hotspot data from my iPhone my entire stay. Not ideal, but again, not the fault of the staff.
The construction, hustle & bustle, and lack of dining options is the reason for this rating. They could do a better job of explaining what is available as I was unaware in-room dining was an option until filling out this survey.
It was great to stay in this Hotel because it is in the middle of the University and drop off my son was the reason for the trip. In general, the hotel is good but a little expensive, I stayed there for the location.
We only stayed here out of convenience for an event on campus. We checked in via app with digital key. Upon arrival the hotel was under massive construction. It was not very clear how to get in to the hotel. We found the entrance to the parking garage. The sign said lobby. Thankfully we didn’t have a lot of luggage because there were not any luggage carts. From the garage elevator in the lobby you need to change elevators to go to your room. The elevators are extremely slow. The room was nice and clean. We had a late night and were planning to grab some food from the restaurant since the TV said it was open until 10pm. Come to find out it closed at 9. Called for room service and it was not open. Still closed for non-existent Covid. Very frustrating! Had to order Uber Eats. To no fault of her own the driver couldn’t figure out how to deliver the food so it was cold when we got it. There is not a refrigerator or microwave in the room. Ice machines are only on floors 5 and 7. The one on 5 didn’t work. Again the elevators are extremely slow. Thankful the one on 7 worked. We had a city view which consisted mostly of the lower roof of the building. Not much to see. I feel the hotel should have emailed to let us know the information on how to enter due to the constitution as well as the changes in services. The price sure didn’t reflect the inconveniences.…
Another great stay. Good check-in, great service and attentive staff. Perfect location for our conference/forum. They are remodeling and giving the place a facelift. No problems at all and a good value for the amenities.
Rooms musty. The water taste like rust due to the construction. Was not informed that housekeeping was upon request. When requesting clean towels, the housekeeper was not pleasant when delivering. Requested a refrigerator at time of reservation and it was not in the room upon arrival. When they did deliver the refrigerator, it was placed on the floor and on top of my granddaughters shoes. The placement of the refrigerator made it impossible to open and close the drapes. It was a horrible stay. Due to the construction, it was difficult to find the entrance. Would not recommend this property until they finish renovation which I WAS not told at time of making my reservation. A very dissatisfied DIAMOND member.
My stays are business related, so I have little time for leisure. But the staff at this Hilton recognize the value of my time while maintaining a professional "unrushed" level of service that is much appreciated.
