Detailed Reviews
I suggest that anyone considering to book accommodation at this resort TAKE CARE DONT DO IT. I made & pre paid for accommodation for this Resort in May 2018 for our reservation in July 2018.. We were then told x 24 hours prior to our arrival date in July that the Resort was closed because of the Island generator had failed !!
WE HAVE NOT BEEN PAID OUR REFUND... THEY CONTINUE TO IGNORE MY REQUESTS FOR THE REFUND ....BE CAREFUL .. CHECK ALL ASPECTS

We had a day trip from a cruise ship this week. Crystal clear water, beautiful, friendly island people set up market stalls selling shells, wooden carvings and it's more. The children singing and dancing dressed in native costume was fantastic. Pub sold cold drinks and it was certainly a day to remember.

Basic restaurant area with a limited amount of food and drink available, friendly locals with various arts and crafts for sale and some dance demonstrations. A good variety of local pearls are available for purchase by visitors.

It rained and rained, which made it very muddy to go for a hike. We were there with princess cruises for the day. We had thought about swimming until they showed us the salt water crocodile in the pen. And yes the band was fantastic better than the band or most entertainers on the ship. The natives were selling some mass produced bowls, but search around I found a hand carved platter. Everyone wanted hand made by islanders but there wasn't much at all. Someone needs to teach them a bit of carving and screen printing.

Whether you are on a cruise ship or organising a family holiday on an isolated tropical island paradise Doini Island is the place. Visit their web site is a must. If you are on a cruise ship and you want to visit the old administration center of Samarai island then make contact to organise the 20 min boat trip. You can also arrange fishing and snorkeling trips in advance. The accommodation is right there on the beach from multi beds to the private honeymoon get away. Imagine getting out of bed straight into the warm sea for a dip, breakfast on fresh tropical fruits, back in for another dip, mid morning snooze, another dip etc. Dine on freshly caught fish. You can tell everyone you are "Out of contact" and they'll believe you (you can get phone reception there but that's your secret). Fabulous.

This Island is owned by an Australian who was born in Papua New Guinea .He is doing a brilliant job. We arrived for the day by boat and we were very surprised at how well run the Island was. He has built stunning beach bungalows which are for rent to holidaymakers. He has built a large restaurant to accommodate visiting cruise passengers. He arranges for the locals from other islands to come and put on shows and sell their wares. You can get married there apparently, there is also kayaking, fishing and walking trips. Tennis and turtle watching and a nine hole golf course. There is diving on an island close by and lots of people were snorkelling and swimming from the Dioni beach. The beach and sea were fantastic but wear reef shoes because there is a lot of broken coral along waters edge. Also use insect spray because of the sand flies and insects. It seems very well run and everyone said they were coming back for a holiday. A bit to far for us to come from England!!! We didn't stay at hotel but used the bungalow facilities and everywhere was spotless.

+1
Having been on a Pacific Princess cruise to do a fast reconoiter of the Papua Islands for a week I was more then ready to see white coral sands ,coconut palms and beaches littered with shells and coral within a short swim from the island. I found all of this and a well run very Professional unspoilt paradise . This is one place I will return to ,but via small boat so as to really feel that Robinson Crusoe feel this island surely offers when there are no cruise ships
People are not in your face. It's extremely reasonable for anything and unspoilt
This btw was the saving grace for this cruise as the other ports were extremely beige in regards to showcasing how amazing Papua is .

Stopped here on a cruise ship. Very beautiful place not very many locals. Wandered around for awhile and ended up in the water. Crystal clear blue water and after swimming out about 10m from shore was able to see the beauty underneath. Would love to stay here for more that a few hours though.

Do you want to get away from it all to an isolated island paradise? On many levels this privately owned island would meet the criteria (population under 200). When the cruise ship in not nearby I imagine the resort would be the place to be. A range of experiences are offered from accommodation units on the shore, bushwalking, skull caves, isolated beaches, animals in a natural environment, sandy beaches and snorkeling - it is all here. There are a number of inhabited islands nearby. The trip to the island is not fast, a boat trip taking about 2 1/2 hours from nearby PNG city of Alotau, but the views along the way are worth it. Refer to the islands website for current accommodation costs etc.
