We booked this trip thru Orbitz.com a little over a month in advance, both the round-trip flight & hotel, Vista Inn & Suits. Flight went smoothly going & returning home, the hotel however, not so much. This trip we wanted to avoid renting a car, so we chose a hotel downtown on Union Ave. where we could walk to Beale Street & other interesting landmark, also allowing us to use Memphis transit system (trolley & buses) as well as booking tours that include pick up at the hotel. From the airport we used Lyft & so very glad we did. Our driver was Phillip "Malik" Riles who was awesome especially so because once he took us to our hotel, again the Vista Inn & Suits, to our surprise it was closed down, totally abandoned, Phillip stayed with us until we were settle in a hotel! I immediately called the hotel #, & was told that we were being transferred to the EconoLodge further up Union, to far for us to walk around downtown! Once at EconoLodge lobby I called Orbitz.com asking them why I was not informed! While on hold with Orbitz.com we talked with the hotel Manager/Owner, Neil, who was also calling Orbitz.com on our behalf; together we got Orbitz.com to refund my $$ & Neil gave us a cheaper rate. However, I told Neil, before confirming to say that we had chose Vista for it location, he said that we could use the hotel shuttle to shuttle us for 'free' to downtown, where normally it would have cost $5.00 per person per ride. So with that we chose to stay at the EconoLodge. In addition to Neil, the front counter staff such as Brandi, were awesome, very helpful with all our request and/or needs & the shuttle drivers were very friendly & everyone gave us suggestions on where to go to eat as well as tours or sights to see. The hotel is slowly being remodeled & that which has been done is nice. Included in the stay is free breakfast, I'd suggest they include fruit and yogurt, but it was filling with waffles & biscuit & gravy. Across the street is a Burger King, Arby's, Walgreen, a gas station with a convenient store offering beer, candy, snacks, etc., & up the street, a short walk is McDonalds. A block up in front of Walgreen is the bus stop, bus 34, 54 & 56 will take you down town; you can purchase an all day pass for $3.50 which can be used for the bus & downtown trolleys, be sure to have the Exact change as the drivers will not give change back! The trolley drivers were much friendlier than the bus drivers. There are 3-trolleys, one down Main street, one along the river & one that circulates to the college. The trolley drivers will direct you to good eatery's & tell you where you need to get off for your destination. People are as friendly as you are! We were there a week & had a great time.…
