I stayed at Winnock while walking the first half of the West Highland Way. Drymen itself seems like a place that purely functions as a "hiking hub" where wanderers can rest. I hadn't had high expectations from any of the hotels I was meant to stay in or the restaurants I was meant to dine in. "Winnock" actually was very pleasant and worked for me. Just right. Not too pretentious or too neglected. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The ONLY MAJOR drawback was no biscuit in my "welcome tray"! :) The dinner in the restaurant was very good. I ordered scallops followed by very tender beef cheeks and all that was finalised by a raspberry Eton mess. Breakfast was also delicious although as you can see in some other reviews, some have had an issue with getting a free table. I didn't have that problem at all. I think some people just need to realise that the hotel is quite big and if all the guests faff around until let's say 9, and they all decide to come down at the same time, obviously, there's not going to be a spare table. Discipline and pragmatic thinking people! Staff - I used to work in a hotel of a similar location, fashion and mechanism. It's not an easy job, especially in the current climate(staff that may be subject to self-isolation, pure lack of candidates to work in such locations or simply the overall lockdown fatigue - because everyone has been bummed by the whole thing to some extent). But it's visible that they all try to do their best to get s**t done. I did feel that the staff cared and that's what matters to me (or maybe they're all good at making such an impression). Still, I wanted to say thanks to cheerful Megan. She did her best to run the show during her dinner shift on Friday 15th. Also, I wanted to mention her manager and all the staff working on their breakfast shift right after a dinner shift the day before. Ah, and the chefs make nice food! Will be back if I happen to be around again.

Just back from very enjoyable four night stay . Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. My single room was pleasant with a view over the green. The quality of food was excellent, compliments to the chef. Service was efficient , mostly apart from the odd problem which was on the whole swiftly dealt with. I would gladly return .

Check in was good, room was ok ,bit out of date but ok, evening meal was very good in the bar, waitress was very helpful, singer was a bit too loud. Breakfast.....oh dear, went down about 9am and they didn't have a table for three people, they were clearing one so could we wait in the lounge, waited for a while then went back to be told they had no tables for three people, the one they were clearing had been given to someone else?? Would we mind eating in the lounge? Which is next to reception, we agreed as we had tickets booked elsewhere. Had to eat breakfast with the front door causing a draft and everybody walking past us. I thought they had given me a kids breakfast as it was so small and they forgot the toast, not a great experience. Shame it was ruined by such silly errors

Booked deluxe room, still trying to work out where the deluxe comes in, room was basic and not worth the extra paid for it Bar Food tasty and well cooked however breakfast left a lot to be desired. We had booked for Murder mystery, the act was very good pity the service was not the same. The senior waitress informed us that we would have to get our own drinks as two members of staff had not arrived, sorry not really my problem and I shouldn’t have even been aware, result was we didn’t drink with our meal. The service was exceptionally bad and slow making the break between the “murder” and the “police” arriving so long most of us had forgotten why we were there. Breakfast was a total letdown. Again service slow although the waiting staff did their best under indifferent leadership!! Continental breakfast described as a selection of breads (2 white morning rolls). The cooked breakfast was just not good and no beans!!! Not sure I would make a repeat visit.
